Of ALL the penalties, illegal formation is the one that gets my goat. I don't think the coaches scheme plays where they know a tackle is uncovered or there's too many men on the line of scrimmage. That's a mental error by the players.

(OK, that Colts fake punt disaster was one counter example, but still....)

The thing that impressed me was that the TE (Dowdle) was their leading receiver in terms of yards (709) and TD's (8) and also averages 22 yds/rec.  Those are WR stats not TE stats!

Yeah, Dowdle is an impressive player. When he first arrived at UST he was about 198 pounds and contributed as a WR. He then put on about 40 pounds and they moved him to TE his junior year where he has thrived.

UST has moved a lot of guys around this year. As Caruso has mentioned before, a lot of these guys were on the roster last year they just were not in the right places. The adjustments this year have really paid off.

This is something that the coaching staff deserves a lot of credit for.  Some folks will just line-em-up, and if they lose they might complain that the guys they have aren't good enough (although sometimes that's the truth, and no amount of moving the chess pieces around will change that) but I'm always impressed when a staff does a really good job putting their guys in a position to win, whether that means shuffling the deck to find everyone the right position and/or changing the scheme/plays ever so slightly to accentuate the right guys' strengths and hide their weaknesses.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

Certainly. I think apart of that also has to do with the culture that Caruso and his staff have created. The kids they have in the program are willing to make sacrifices and do what is best for the team. I remember when I played for UST (pre-Caruso), we probably would have had a few guys quit the team if they were moved. We had some selfish kids who were entitled and were used to getting everything they wanted. Those players are acidic.

I think many Div III programs have this....   Two of Wabash's top two receivers came in as QB's.  (Christen and Page)

Corrected!   ;)

I think you mean Christen and Page.

BashBro - you mean Drake Christen & Oliver Page.  Still very cool that Rice is a state champ QB from Cathedral (5A) and Christen is a state champ QB from Lawrence Central (6A).

Question:  UST shut down St John's Sura last week...  How different are running styles between Sura and Wabash's Mason Zurek (I feel the need to use complete names this week - for the UST poster since they are so interested in our players.   ;D)  Sura is listed at 5'11 205, Zurek is 6'0 225.  I would venture to guess they have very different running styles.

Not exactly the 22-wide, but there's plenty out there to get the gist.

There are exactly 0 plays of UST's 2015 O or D uploaded by that person. Thankfully, though, I can watch 328 different angles of the 2 pointer if I want.

Well, we pretty much just came to your board and offered up the skinny on UST unsolicited. Even tried to provide highlights, albeit, most of them are old. Just assumed you'd reciprocate. Judging from what I know Wabash runs the ball effectively and has a pretty good pass rush. Sounds familiar.

Well said, ExTartan-so true.  It is always amazing to see coaching like that.  Certainly that is the difference between true coaches who go beyond simply showing players techniques, putting them through the motions and then just letting them go at it.  Sounds like UST's staff has done a great job to find the right venue for this year's team.

I look forward to it being a good, tough game this weekend-at least I hope it doesn't end up being a blow-out and/or boring game for either team, like the U of Mich/Ohio State game was last weekend (disappointingly for us U of Michigan fans, of course).  ;)

We're an all-male school.  Most new teams we play think that is a novelty and love to crack (bad) jokes about it.

I liked the dude that thought the web feed would be "just fine" this week comparing it to last week vs St Johns.  #noclue  Because we may have 35 dudes watching it...

I'm hoping by halftime the Tommies might be a little more interested in the game and the guys wearing white.  Or, perhaps they will all be attending a referee conference discussing late hits and personal foul penalties.  That is a conservative statement too.  Last year against Wisconsin Whitewater...  Halftime score:  UW-W 10, Wabash 7.

I wonder if Zurek would letter on UST's team.  I bet McCullen could play on their Punt team.  Ludwig could be a safety on their kickoff team.  Tutsie could hold on PAT's.  Wes Hunt could possibly also be on their PAT team.  Buresh could back somebody up somewhere - maybe.

USTBench - I have seen very little insight on your team with the exception of the size of the O-line, you have a stud back in Roberts who ran for 100 yards vs #1 ranked North Dakota State (also on his bio), you have a good TE that the coaches have done a kick ass job putting in the right position and he leads the team in yards and averages over 22 ypc, your QB and receivers aren't flashy but really good, and lastly, my favorite, if #75 had a quicker first step, he would be playing in the SEC.

Great info.

We exhaust most of those jokes on SJU earlier in the year. It's playoffs now, we just want to talk FOOTBAWWWW
