Merry Christmas to All D3Football Fans!    What a great year it was.   Can't wait for next year.

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

I join in on wishing all of you, my NCAC poster friends a Merry Christmas wherever you are/whatever you are doing today!

The DePauw community lost a good one today. Longtime baseball coach Ed Meyer has passed away at 75.

Ed was DePauw's baseball coach from 1965-1999. Graduated from DePauw in 1962. He was the QB on Bell winning teams in '60 and '61. He was also a football & basketball assistant. Two of his sons have DePauw degrees. His third son, Tony (who used to hang out here some), played football & baseball at Wabash. Tony is now the head football coach at my alma mater, Cloverdale HS.

Ed was one of the really, really good people associated with the University.

Heard Allegheny has a new head coach. Anyone else hear anything on this? I hope what I heard is not true.

As a UTSA booster I'm completely unsurprised. The program is circling the bowl. He was smart to move on now.

Li'l Giant:

You had better talk to Mr. Ypsi.  Unfortunately, going to Eastern Michigan is not so much a step up since the program is probably like UTSA.  Perhaps just a "biding time" position for him ::).

Oh, I'm familiar with Mr. Ypsi's insights.

It's a lateral move at best, but I think he'll be in a better position after spending a couple seasons there with CC than he would with the chaos going on in SA. I don't blame him at all for leaving a sinking ship. And it says a LOT that EMU is a better option than UTSA right now.

WOW - UTSA must REALLY be in dire straits! ::)

I'm so far still quite hopeful that CC can refloat the ship if anyone can - but I'm just not sure that is possible.  There are other problems as well, but the elephant in the room is living 6 miles from the Big House. ::)  I haven't checked the numbers for sure (and the numbers from EMU have proven in the past to be a total crock - they were caught red-handed a few years ago reporting attendance figure more than double actuality), but I'm quite certain that average attendance at Wabash is higher than at EMU.  My younger son is a senior at EMU and a total sports nut - even he doesn't give a damn about the football team.

UTSA is experiencing a serious lack of leadership right now. Couple with a 3 win season and, again, I don't blame Neathery for leaving.

I share your hope that CC can turn it around. Which is why I think it's an understandable move.

As for attendance, I saw something on twitter that had a number of just under 5,000 per game. I didn't know it was that low.

Probably about right, but more likely high than low.  The last two times I went (with free tickets - they often give away free tickets and even then people don't bother to show up), I'd estimate attendance at about 4,000 (and both games were fairly early season when the weather was still nice).

Their last truly good year was almost 40 years ago - 1987, won the conference, beat heavily favored San Jose St. in the now-defunct California Bowl, and were rewarded by their HC being hired away by Cal-Berkeley. :P  They've had a few reasonably decent seasons since (the Charlie Batch era, and another very good QB whose name escapes me at the moment - I wanna say Scott Adams, but that is the creator of Dilbert, so I may or may not have his name right), but it has been mostly almost 40 years of mediocre or worse.  This year they won ONE game, but at least I'm told they were more entertaining than before - there is nothing worse than being both lousy AND boring!

The Gators have made their hire of BJ Hammer official. Best of luck, Coach. Except when you play us, of course.  ;)
