Wow.... The new guy hasn't even been in coaching the last five years. And when he was coaching, had a sub 500 record.  I guess wabash mailed it in on a coaching search.  Oh well.  All good things must come to an end I guess.

Umm... the new guy has been the offensive coordinator I believe for the last 3 years at Wabash and a qb coach before that. Not exactly out of coaching.

I stand corrected.  Still, according to the press release:

"Morel has spent the past five years working in the private sector, serving as the president of Truman Properties."

I guess Wabash, unlike its previous two HC hires, couldn't trouble itself to actually conduct a search to find someone with actual head coaching success like Creighton and Raeburn had.  Promoting from within sometimes works, I suppose.  We will see, won't we?

Do you care to post a link to whatever nonsense you're reading?  My sense is that you're reading an old release about when Coach Morel was hired as OC, not yesterday's release about being promoted to HC.  You need to get this straight before you come out guns blazing here.

As far as a search goes, it's the end of March.  What kind of candidate pool do you honestly think exists at the end of March?  Chris Creighton and Erik Raeburn were both hired during the more traditional carousel window (Dec-Feb).  Do you think it's a good idea to be coach-less for the next six weeks which just so happens to be peak deposit season?  Think it through, have perspective, and then react.

This is more a young man getting his first opportunity to coach as opposed to a mouse abandoning the house.

I played against Coach Morel's mid 1990's ULV teams and can say they were very well coached and disciplined. His teams were big, fast, and extremely athletic. He was able to position ULV for multiple SCIAC titles when Redlands was emerging as a dominant conference power. His 1995 9-0 ULV team would have went very deep in the playoffs in my opinion but were not selected. I would give the guy a chance and see what he can do before panicking.

I just noticed that Hammer hired former Hiram HC Randy Moore as his DC.  I like that hire.  Another guy who knows the conference and has HC experience.  All things considered he did a really nice job at Hiram.  And if anybody knows a rebuilding project it's Moore.  That seems to check a lot of boxes, IMO.

Some really good Wabash content in the new ATN Podcast today- namely a really good interview with Coach Morel (12:00 in).  Definitely give it a listen.

I have nothing but praise for what Raeburn and Hammer have done in their time with the Little Giants.  Moreover, I can't find any fault with two young coaches taking steps to advance their career.

All of that said, losing two good young coaches in one off season creates a challenge for the program.

Man, you've been hand-wringing over this for over a week now.  Take a deep breath.  Find your steel.  It's going to be ok.  I promise.

LOL!!!!  I'm in risk management.  I worry for a livingI worry about my college football team to take my mind off of work.

OK to step away form football for a second and into some more general discussion. I was out at Oberlin's athletic site and noticed that their logo now includes a squirrel:

This looks like it dates back to 2013, Even though they are the Yeomen and Yeowomen (not a word), they could not come up with a drawing. So the Albino Squirrel it is. Just found it interesting, Back to your everyday conversation.

I guess one of these would not suffice.

I read that the Navy is making its MOSs gender-neutral, but haven't found a replacement for Yeoman.

Oberlin adopting an albino squirrel as a mascot is pretty much the most Oberlin thing possible.

In first reading the last 3 posts from most recently posted then "up the list" i.e. wally's first, I was just going to ask the question..."what does a squirrel have to do with a Yeomen?", but Bishopleftiesdad beat me to it, in providing an answer (at least of some type.  ;D ;) :)  Nonetheless, and as much as I really do love Oberlin's collegiate football history, I also have to admit that I agree with wally as he has described this in the right "atmosphere". :)  Anyway, I guess it is the off-season and anything (well, almost anything as long as it falls within this site's rules) goes as far as topics for discussion!
;D

On another tangential topic, in "surfing the web" like Bishopleftiesdad, I have found it interesting to see how the new coaching staffs at some of the DIII schools who have new H.C.'s are filling out.  One example, at my alma mater, new head man Stuursma retained our experience D.C. (former Augustana, IL star in his own day) Mike Ricketts , (a good move, IMO) and has brought on Irv Siegler, Jr., a successful h.s. coach (whose father brought Olivet College back to competitiveness in the early 2000's after a long successful Michigan h.s. head coaching career himself).  A lot of young and upcoming coaches are getting opportunities.

Anyway, thanks for a good chuckle today guys!
