The regional finals are juicy.  Looking forward to firing up the steams this weekend.

Hiram College wins the inter-collegiate basketball world championship at the World's Fair Universal Exposition Olympic Games in St. Louis, Missouri. Final score: Hiram, 25; Latter Day Saints University, 18.

FL hasn't panned out well for Hiram?  I know a lot of the OAC schools hit FL hard in recruiting.  Wasn't sure about the NCAC.

OWU has gone down to Fla as of late. 12 players are from Fla. Most being freshman in 2016.

Congratulations to OWU's Tim Shadoan being honored by the National Football Foundation.

Hey HC-
My son is considering Hiram for school and football. What say you regarding the program and the outlook for the next 5 years ?

My nephew is graduating this spring. Played four years at Hiram. While I live in Ohio he is from Florida. 3 of the 6 All NCAC players (Each was on the first team) Hiram had were from Florida. Tell me more about "localizing" recruiting efforts and the trap that is Florida?  ???

That piqued my interest as well. When we visited Hiram a few weeks ago, Coach Stanford was on a recruiting trip to....Florida.

Yeah, absolutely. I wasn't suggesting that Hiram completely cut off Florida, we have had several successful players from Florida. What I am suggesting is that saturating a roster with kids (many of whom academically underqualified) from a state 2,000 miles away has not been a great idea.

Stanford has done a terrific job in picking the good fruit from the Florida orange tree, as well as retaining the good ones. Localizing efforts is essential to the success of the program, however, and Stanford is doing that. A strong Ohio and WestPa nucleus is the only one to keep sustainable numbers and build a lasting program.

As for the inquiry into the health of the program: Stanford has done an excellent job in recruiting high character kids. He has a GREAT offensive mind, and the program is in good hands with him.

To me for a D3 school FL kids are a risk/reward proposition.  You can get really good talent, but you also recruit them knowing that a big chunk won't stick around for various reasons.  That isn't unique to Hiram by any means.  But I think at this point nearly every OH D3 program recruits FL.  Even in D3 if you want to win you need to pony up and send your coaches down there to recruit.

Wabash has concentrated on AZ recently, and has had some success over the years in TX, MS, and LA. Not just recruiting athletes, but students too.
