Anybody see Chris Creighton and Eastern Michigan beat Rutgers on the road in a wild finish?  First time EMU has beaten a Big Ten team, and they are now 1-38 against the conference.  They are 2-0 for the first time since 1990 and last year they had their first winning season since 1995.  It will be interesting to see where Creighton goes after EMU.  If Urban leaves, or Harbaugh return to the Colts, who knows?

Rutgers in the B1G still throws me off.

Congrats to CC. What a great win for them. He's going to end up at a P5 school behind this kind of success at a place like EMU.

Thinking today about Florida, I decided to count the number of Florida student-athletes on NCAC rosters.  If my count is correct, the pre-season rosters of the 10 NCAC teams list exactly 100 names from Florida.  Only two teams--DePauw and Wabash--do not show anyone from there.  Here are the numbers for the other schools; a couple of those numbers surprise me:  Allegheny, 12; Denison, 5; Hiram, 15; Kenyon, 2; Oberlin, 3; OWU, 31 (!); Wittenberg, 28 (!); Wooster, 1.
Wishing these players and their folks at home a safe passage through the events of the next several days.

Hiram offense looking good, granted against a bad opponent.

- 628 yards
- 63 pts.
- 6 touchdowns from Randy Tucker

We need help in the defensive secondary. I'd love to see us bring more pressure, but we clearly miss Burchett and Fleetion. Next week will be a big test and we will need to bring pressure to stand a chance against Depauw, who I believe would certainly beat us in a shootout. There were certainly positives from the game, and it was even more lopsided than the score indicates.

Also, great year for the NCAC in non-conference play!

Also, Congratulations to Randy Tucker for winning NCAC Player of the Week. Well deserved.

6 TD passes will do that.  That's not a bad month!

I was at the Hiram- Earlham contest this past Saturday. From what I've seen and heard, the Terriers are not the most disciplined outfit, particularly on defense. They had at least 5 personal fouls, a couple of which led to Earlham scores. It's all part of a culture-building process for Coach Stanford, and it will take awhile. The offense does have athletes, which is good because they will need them. I think anything over 3 wins for the Terriers will be gravy.

I was at the game as well Kraken. I don't recall five personal fouls. Though I did have an elongated bathroom break in the 3rd quarter due to the tailgate chili dogs.

Nonetheless, I agree. Our defense is an issue, we also head a couple pre-snap penalties on hard counts and alignment that were inexcusable.

I trust Stanford, but I've heard from some other alums that he is really putting his neck on the line with some of these kids. I hope it turns out well.

I think Depauw will drop at least 40 on us, but I would expect the Terriers to try to control the ball a little more against DPU to keep the defense off of the field.

The box score indicates four PF penalties on Hiram.  I don't have any other context for the fouls...if the game was being called particularly tight given the degree of mismatch or whatever else.

Yielding 40+ to Earlham is the reddest of flags though.  That shouldn't have been a thing that happened.

Facemask and late hits (one after an Earlham TD reception). And yes HC, it is my understanding that Mr. Stanford has bent over backwards for some of these kids.

Absolutely, Wally.

As I noted before, the score isn't indicative of the game, but it is inexcusable nonetheless. Also accurately noted is the fact that self-inflicted-wounds by Hiram kept 4 Earlham scoring drives alive on 3rd down.

Not sure if this is the right place for this discussion...but here goes...

Watching Coach Creighton this past weekend got me thinking about Coach Raeburn.  He is in his second season at Savannah State.  I saw that this past spring, Savannah State decided to drop down to D2 for financial reasons.  Do you think Coach Raeburn knew that was coming when he took the job?  If not, I would imagine he is a bit miffed about it, because I would think he would see it as a setback to his moving up in the coaching ranks.  Am I all wet in thinking this?

My speculative POV:
- No, I don't think it was a known thing that SSU was going to move to D2 when ER took the job.
- It's probably a bummer, but there's also not a thing he can do or could have done about it
- So he's going to play the hand he's been dealt, coach the heck out of his football team, they'll be better for it, and Division I won't be missing out on Coach Raeburn for very long

In reality, more of the HBCU's should be D-2. That way they wouldn't have to stack their hoops schedules with 10 road games as tomato cans.
