Quote from: wally_wabash on October 28, 2017, 08:27:07 PMThe thing that has killed Wabash all season is that Knoche gets his ass kicked by every DC in the league and it isn't close.  The other DC might as well be calling Wabash's offense the way it gets read and anticipated.  With the players he inherited, it's inexcusable to have a pass offense ranked below 200 in the division, and yet here we are.  This team doesn't need a 300 ypg passer.  It does have to be able to complete passes at respectable percentage, and it has to throw competently enough to make another defense respect it.  It does neither, and a team like Witt will suffocate you with that deficiency, which they did.

I feel like a lot of the heat that has been directed toward Don Morel could be alleviated if Wabash had a new OC next year. If he doesn't make a change, then the heat is deserved. This offense is putrid and a change needs to be made.

Why would they get a new OC when they are just not that good. That kind of talk will just do wonders for recruiting. I don't see anything changing as long as they are .500 team.

I'm confused by this.  Who isn't good?

After the game during coach Morels interview he said they had to play perfect because they are just not that good. This isn't the first time he has mentioned this. I would never say that in an interview or to anyone at any time if it had a chance to get back to the players. But that's just me.

Lou Holtz used to downplay his team, but of course that was at Notre Dame.

The difference is Morel actually believes it.  Time to hit the road, jack.

Creighton and Raeburn were not perfect, but they were fired-up. And somehow they inspired and fired-up the teams they coached!! This last two years look too laid back; Southern California? How about a 'bring back the hammer" campaign? He seemed to inspire the fire in his players! WAF!

This doesn't strike me as the usual coachspeak. Or in Holtz's case coachthpeak.

If EMU can't break the jinx pretty damn soon, they might be willing to give back CC.  Six straight losses, every one by a TD or less, three in OT.  Not giving up on him just yet, but someone call off the hex! :o :(

Instead of 2-6, with even a smidgen of luck they could be anywhere from 5-3 to 8-0. ;)

When was the last time an alum manned the helm?  I would be on board.

Amazingly, you would have to go back to the late 19th century to find an alum who was a head football coach at Wabash.

Ah, I see.  I'd have to go back and watch the piece, but generally I agree that's not great phrasing.  I think the fireside chats with Coach Morel four minutes after a tough loss aren't the best thing.  I appreciate the access, but I think something like Saturday's game needs a little more time to breathe before the coach goes live and on the record.

Also agree that there's a fine line between the "we're trying to get better every day" and "we're not very good" lines of coachspeak.  Basically saying the same thing, but the connotations are significantly different.  I know he doesn't think he's got bad players.

Pre-CC, EMU would have loved to be 2-6 with six close losses.  You take every chance you get to bang on CC.  It's tired.  He's done great work there.  A lot of tough breaks this year, many self-inflicted, but EMU is infinitely better than they were the day before CC got there.  Go Eagles.

I was just skimming the NCAA stats.  Holy crap is Muntean having a spectacular year.  I knew he was playing well, but man.  28 TD, 1 INT?!  He's 4th in the nation in pass efficiency.  That Wooster/Denison game is going to be something.
