If you're keeping track of the Thomas Merkle pitch count, the Kenyon QB threw 69 times yesterday.

Very Nice.  8-)

As Wally noted, we had a school record three safeties on Saturday - and this was the tune-up game we needed.

Some notes - our defense was excellent (albeit against a bad opponent) - and held the Quakers to -11 yards total offense in the second half.

Randy Tucker rushed for 2 and passed for 2, and looked VERY good. If he stays healthy he will be one of the better QB's in the league this season.

Depauw will be a great test for us next week - opening the season with 3 Indiana schools. Depauw is clearly leaps and bounds better than Earlham, but not as talented as Wabash. If we can keep it close going into the 4th, anything can happen.

I like the way your mind works, HCA.  That's a +k-bomb if there ever was one.

It'll be interesting in Greencastle this weekend.  DePauw didn't look great offensively.  We'll see what Matt Labus's status is for this weekend, but Chase Andries didn't have a great line in relief on Saturday.  I'm really keen to see how DePauw's defense handles Hiram compared to Wabash's defense.  The DPU defense is kind of a known quantity...they are experienced and very good.  Wabash is young and we're still learning about them, but they've been pretty impressive so far.  I do think Hiram can have some chances here if the OL play is a bit better than it was week 1 vs. Wabash.

Andries is more than capable, especially if he gets the bulk of the reps in practice this week.

Good win for Wabash against a WIAC opponent, I like seeing that kind of non-con opponent.

Yeah, I thought that was kind of strange game at DePauw this last weekend.  Also, the attendance was horrid, although not surprising as that seemed to be essentially the way it was for most of the DIII schools in the central Midwest since it was a torrential downpour from Illinois across to Indiana across to Ohio and all of Pennsylvania.  That seemed to be the weather pattern of the rain here in Michigan and from Wisconsin with those heavy storms we had the past two week.  This past weekend, it was beautiful weather in Michigan for once!

Anyway, an interesting start for many of the schools in our region so far this year.  Some surprises, others not so much.

As it starts to get out, I just wanted to say to please extend your prayers to the Wabash College community. Evan Hansen took his life yesterday. Just know, no matter what you are going through there is always someone to talk to. Feel free to send me a message if you want to talk about anything at anytime. Hansen was more than a football player, he was a friend, a brother, a Wabash man.

Heartbreaking.  Hansen was a four-year starter at linebacker on the football team.  My thoughts, prayers, and condolences to the Hansen family, Wabash, and his friends and teammates.  What is it that leads to such an end?  For many years I grieved over tragic circumstances on campus.  Some of you know what I mean.  Stay strong Wabash.

Prayers for the Wabash community. So sad and heartbreaking.

Thoughts and prayers with the Wabash community and his family. Honestly, when you see such a talented young man dealing with such troubles, its a forceful reminder that even those who seem most capable and stable are often dealing with their own demons. My sincerest condolences.
