Former Wabash college HC Erik Raeburn was fired today at FCS Savannah State. They are moving down to D2 next year. https://www.savannahnow.com/sports/20181207/savannah-state-parts-ways-with-football-coach-erik-raeburn

Spurred by a question on Reddit, I have been trying to find out if Wittenberg had any players on both the 75 football national championship and the 77 basketball nation championship. If so, they may be the only person to win both championships. A player from Ferris St. has the opportunity to do it this weekend. Anyway, I am having no luck finding rosters from those teams. I can find a few names of the start basketball players, but no full roster of either. If anyone has any sources, I would appreciate it.

One suggestion on your search:  call the Wittenberg SID.  This might be something that the SID would know the answer to or could research.

I grew up in Springfield and went to many Wittenberg games. I remember two outstanding players who played both sports in the early sixties, Charlie Green and Bob Cherry. In 1961 Wittenberg won the NCAA College Division basketball championship and it claims a football championship in 1962. Not sure source of that title.  Per Wikipedia they were second to Florida A&M in final AP poll.

Wittenberg's Hall of Honor lists Cherry's class year as 1964. He won four letters each in basketball and football, so he would have been been on both championship teams. It also says he was NCAA hurdles champion.

I totally missed this.  Too bad, but ER will land on his feet.  He's a good coach.

He is a good coach. Not sure if he will actively search out a coaching gig though. Wife has a good job - may just let the kids grow up. Nice house on the island down there.

Could be.  There aren't many better places to live.  But guys who are motivated enough to 1) be a college HC and 2) jump from a D3 HC job to an FCS HC job are often not wired to be off the sideline for very long.  Guys like that are usually hyper-competitive.

I, too, hope ER quickly lands on his feet--and that he continues to coach.  Minus SSU, his track record is excellent.  There are DIII jobs open, and more will be open.  A school should be glad to have him.  If nowhere else, UMU might take him in as an assistant for a time.  He is VK's  cousin; LK's nephew, and a valued UMU football alumnus who started his coaching career on the UMU staff.  BFS assistant?  Of course, the lure of staying in Savannah might be strong enough for him to take a hiatus if no job looks good to him.  Or he might seek another professsion, but he has football coach written all over him.  True that his wife--a fiery football fan--has a very good job in education.  But there are good education jobs everywhere.  His children are not yet in high school when it's  probably a more difficult move.
Here's hoping the best for the Raeburn family.

VK would trip over himself to hire him if ER had any interest in being an assistant at Mount.  As he should.  ER is obscenely overqualified to be an assistant in D3.  Any D3 program would be lucky to have him leading their program.

Too Bad Emory does not have a football team. Only four hours from Savannah.

Although Lagrange is 4 18 minutes away. Of coarse they would need to be looking for a new coach.

Georgia Southern (FBS- Sun Belt Conf-9-3 going playing EMU in bowl) 50 miles (about an hour) from Savannah.

Asst job there might be attractive.

I always thought ER going to Savannah was a poor choice and the "death valley" which, I believe, it was has played out to be.  I was not thrilled with the timing of ER leaving Wabash ... but that has worked out well for Wabash ... present Coach Morel has a more laid back demeaner (which in my estimation comes from a little seasoning and experience in the coaching world ... both as head and as very fine assistant).  Also Coach Morel has a fun play calling hand book.  The number of freshmen and size of team this year is a testament to his guidance and recognition of his leadership.  I look for Wabash to be faster, stronger, better next year ... and fun to watch.  I believe (from talking with Little Giant players) that they are comfortable with the era of Morel, and he is a "keeper" and "stayer".  Both Good.  I wish Reaburn well ... what happened to him should not happen ... but may turn out to be a blessing for him.  He will land on his feet.
