After three quarters it was 52-6, and Wabash trailed in time of possession. Let that sink in for a minute.

On a different note, with Witt and Wabash ranked 2nd and 5th in all time victories, there were 1436 combined wins represented on the field today. Barring an uncommon playoff matchup, I'd guess this game resets that record every time they play.

This was not the dogfight I expected after Witt went to OT with DPU last week. Total domination. Let's hope Wabash brings this type of performance to the Bell Game.

WAF-WDE

Solid crowd for the Wabash victory over Witt.  As usual, the Monon Bell game is sold out in advance.  Hopefully the home crowd gives the LGs the edge over DPU.  WAF!

I know we're two weeks out, but here's my prediction for the Bell game (lock it in):

If the weather is nice, Wabash wins. If it's rainy or snowy, then Gus Baumgartner turns into Billy Kaiser (Google it if you need to), and it's a long day for the Little Giants.  On a clean, dry field, above 40 degrees, Wabash wins.

Assuming we can take the bark out of the Terriers, we will have a winner take all Bell game.  Monon Bell and playoff berth.

The BEST kind of Bell game.

Okay, we don't have that much sway.

Wabash vs. Hiram is a NO ONE GETS HURT game.

They should play the 1's a half at most.

Yesterday's 52-20 Wabash win v. Wittenberg was one of those What the Heck games that nobody saw coming.  Two teams with identical 5-2 records faced off in what would end up the biggest lop-sided score in the history of the rivalry.
The final score was, in fact, not as close as the numbers say.  Wabash led 38-6 at the half and 52-6 after the 3rd quarter.
The LGs threw only 3 passes in the 2nd half and none in the final  quarter.  Witt scored the final 14 pts v. Wabash reserves, (To be fair they had some reserves in as well, but the starting running backs were in the game until the end.)  The Tigers scored the final TD on a long drive with less than 2 minutes remaining.  They gained about 30 yards rushing in the first half, and the bulk of their yards on the ground were in the 4th quarter.
How could this happen?  Well, the LGs looked really on top of their game, both rushing and passing.  Two early Wit fumbles helped immensely.  And it's worth pointing out that the Tigers were coming off an emotional OT loss at DePauw after leading in the 4th quarter.   They looked unprepared and flat.  Who can really understand what the emotions of the previous week did to their attitude?  Anyway, an unexpected outcome for two teams whose talents are probably not nearly that far apart.

Two thoughts:

1) Re: lopsided wins. When was the last time Witt lost by 32+?

2) Is it odd that Witt has yet to post a Recap on its web page?

The last time Wittenberg lost an NCAC (conference) game by 32 or more points was in 1990 at Allegheny, 38-0.  Since then, they have lost playoff games and out-of conference games by 32+.  So,  it's 33 years since they lost their last NCAC contest by that margin.  From 2004 to 2006, they lost three straight OOC games to Capital:  49-16, 54-0, 57-7.  Those were dominant Capital teams led by the legendary QB Rocky Pentello.   Jim Collins, now the Wit HC, coached those Cap teams.  In 1999, they lost to a really good Ohio Northern team, 58-24.  They also lost a PO game (2013) to Mt Union, 56-21.

That is odd.  It's also interesting to see Witt has a tab at the top of its sport page about NIL.  I though colleges were not to be seeking out NIL deals for their student athletes.
