The News Herald mentioned that there were scheduling discussions between JCU and CWRU. If CWRU joins NCAC (9 conf games) and can keep the Academic Bowl with CMU. No more scheduling worries! Seems like a win/win. Bring back the Baird Bros trophy came with Wooster. Does anyone remember the Baird Bros?

Baird Bros Trophy is awesome.  One way or another I would love to see that series pick up again and get the stringer dusted off and out in front of the people where it belongs.

Quote from: sigma one on September 11, 2024, 08:02:30 PMCase Western Reserve is a classy place and would be a good addition to the NCAC.  Except for the Indiana schools.  They would obviously be another long road trip.  When Allegheny left the conference, that eliminated the farthest away contests--in all sports.  When JCU joined, the Indiana schools were back in the same place as when they went to Hiram.  I am on record--and yes--I do not get much support in this--as saying that for 24 years Wabash, and more recently DePauw, have burdensome road trips--again for all teams.
The academic peer situation was, and remains, the reason both Indiana teams are NCAC members. If CWR comes in, even just as an affiliate in football (though I think they might want to join completely while keeping their AAU membership), add one more long trip.  I have traveled to Hiram, Allegheny, Wooster (and now will be going to JCU every other year for as long as I am able), and even by car the trip is long and tiring.
So, beat me up on this if you like; I am used to it.  But that is where I stand.

Wabash was already scheduled to play CWRU in '25 and '26.

Love it.  That's a really good, competitive contest for both sides and brings back memories of a couple of great playoff games between these teams in Cleveland in '07 and '08.

I agree with Sigma One in regard to CWRU and leaving the PAC. The OAC would be a better fit geographically and IMHO philosophically for CWRU. But this is something for thewm to consider and I doubt any of us on this board has any influence over.

ADL70

CWRU was a founding member of the NCAC (earlier OAC and PAC too). It had a trophy game with Wooster. Travelling to Indiana is not a problem for CWRU. As I pointed out earlier, CWRU has scheduled Wabash in '25 and '26. While UAA sponsored football they travelled to St. Louis, Rochester, and Chicago for games. Like CWRU, Denison, Kenyon, Oberlin and Wooster are highly selective universities. John Carroll is a natural rival. These schools are more similar to CWRU in philosophy than the OAC teams.

Before re-joining the PAC for football in 2014 the schedule included at least five NCAC teams.

I was just talking about those playoff games with a buddy yesterday. Fantastic games. If anyone knows where those games might be archived online I'd love to rewatch them.

2nd half of the 2008 game.  Epic finish and a good time to cue this one up as Matt Hudson and Wes Chamblee go into the Wabash Hall of Fame this week.

Sunny and 84 at kickoff for the OWU-Wabash game.  Wabash held a 10-0 lead at the end of the first Q, but turned the ball over on a deflected pass to begin the second Q.  OWU now in the red zone.

As much as I hate the new NFL kickoff procedure, I hate automatically fair-catching everything even more!

What a way for Brand Campbell to introduce himself!

DePauwalum05

Perhaps DePauw's dominant 33-0 win at #22 Berry will gain some respect for the NCAC.

-Pre-season All America Berry RB Cade held to 2.8 yards per carry and 74 total;
-Berry 2 for 17 on converting 3rd downs
-Vikings with 70 yards rushing and 73 passing
-DPU offense did not look especially sharp against a physical opponent, but made big plays to break away on the shoulders of stout D

No one expected this lopsided of an outcome.  Shout out to Pat Coleman for predicting the top 25 upset.  Looks like a good showing by Denison against Alma as well -

Shutout on the road against a ranked opponent?  Damned impressive.  OWU has put up a good fight today, but turnovers have killed them.

Well - I can tell you all how the Bell game is going to go this year.

42-0 anyone?

Wabash won't win by that much.

Whitecarrera

A crazy box score for a game where Wabash was pretty much in control for three of the four quarters.

I hope that someone with more time on their hands than me can help me out, but I would love to see the yards per play differential between Wabash's 4–3 and 3–4 defense packages.

What a weird game yesterday.  OWU ran 14 plays inside the Wabash 10 yd line and came away with 13 pts (missed an Xpt).  They out gained the LG's 425/285 and had 8 more minutes of possession.  Wabash got 6 sacks, 2 INTs, and a fumble recovery along the way to a 30-13 win.  I know I have never seen a stranger game at Little Giant Stadium
