Strange box score indeed. Outgained by 140 yards, 0-9 on third down, even in turnovers, yet 'bash scores 30 & wins by 17. Strong red zone D! Big WIAC matchup up next — should be a good one.

Denison played tough against a 2nd consecutive top 20 opponent. They should be primed and ready for league play after Linfield & Alma.

Incredible defensive effort from DePauw yesterday.  I've watched a number of Berry games and nobody has shut down Cade as well as they did yesterday; making them one-dimensional exposed their weakness at QB. Announcers said it was Berry's first shutout at Valhalla stadium.  People will think more highly of the NCAC as a result. Congratulations!

Quote from: sigma one on September 15, 2024, 08:52:32 AMWhat a weird game yesterday.  OWU ran 14 plays inside the Wabash 10 yd line and came away with 13 pts (missed an Xpt).  They out gained the LG's 425/285 and had 8 more minutes of possession.  Wabash got 6 sacks, 2 INTs, and a fumble recovery along the way to a 30-13 win.  I know I have never seen a stranger game at Little Giant Stadium

Defense bent (a lot), but didn't really break.  Very opportunistic.  Buza played well but when he had a hiccup it was very costly to OWU.

Best moment from this game for me came at the end of the first half when OWU thumbed their nose at convention and did not take a FG with 3 seconds left got stopped, and then when gifted a second chance to put points on the board on an untimed down, did not and got stopped again.  And played those downs with a little extra salt as well.  It looked like they took those two snaps personally, and probably should have.

0-9 on 3rd downs won't be good enough next week or in Week 11, but there are a lot of other positives to take from yesterday.

Appreciate the DPU shoutout, Ron. It's the most dominant win over a ranked opponent since #2 'bash in 2008.

Are we referencing different rankings perhaps, Wally?  Regardless, it was a dominant win against a good opponent.  Will just leave it at that : )

DEPAUW at #22.  I am surprised they are not in the high teens after what they did to Berry.  That defense is overpowering, and the offense has plenty of weapons.  Despite being a Wabash fan, I have to admire what the Tigers have built in the post-pandemic years.

We are.  https://www.d3football.com/top25/2008/week10

The article must be looking at the AFCA poll which, meh.  Regardless of the ranking, Wabash had no answers for Spud on that day.  The final Bell game on the old grass, btw!

The best thing about this game for me was how the defense responded after OWU made it 20-13. That's a big change from the last few seasons where the defense was giving up late leads. I hope we can keep this up.

I particularly enjoyed the fact that the Wabash defense played very aggressively in high-leverage situations.  The team blitzed more than I recall them doing in the recent past. I may be biased by the fact that Jake Gilbert did a wonderful job rejuvenating the football program at my alma mater (Westfield, IN High School).  On the other hand, I attended the game with a long-time high school football coach who raved about Gilbert's coaching skills and how he thought they would translate well to Wabash.

Concerning situation in Springfield, Ohio.  After bomb threats over the weekend, both on the Wittenberg campus and off, the university has virtually locked down.  At least for today, all classes will be on line.  Activities, including sports contests are canceled.  (I'm not sure whether this means practices as well, but I would guess it does.)  I think they are likely taking the situation day by day.
In a time of financial difficulties for WIT, it's shame that one more unfortunate thing has to happen.

Crawford

Great to see the NCAC getting a team almost in the top 20. Soon.
