Has Witt ever beaten Bash in C'ville?  I am pretty sure Witt leads the series 5-3.

Bashbacker765

Tiger,

Yes in 2000.  The lightning game.  Had to finish at the local High School field due to darkness.

Witt leads the series 5-3.  And yes, Witt has beaten Wabash in C'ville on two occasions.  The first was in the 60s.  Witt and Wabash played a home-and-home sometime in the mid-60s and Witt won both of those games.  The next time the two played was in 2000 at Wabash.  Those in attendance will remember this game as the game that was delayed because of turf problems (not a shining moment in the history of Wabash groundskeeping), then lightning delayed the game in the second quarter and the game had to be moved to CHS because they were going to need lights to finish the game.  The game was tied at 7-7 when the delay hit and Wabash was driving.  After the delay and the move to the high school, any momentum Wabash had was gone and Witt rolled 41-10.

Wabash has beaten Witt in both games at Hollett since that day (in the second round of the '02 playoffs and again in '03).

It's going to be rowdy on Oct. 22.

Whatever the record, overall or recent, we're looking forward to Witt visiting C'ville on Oct. 22.  It could well be for the '05 NCAC championship and both teams will be highly motivated and, hopefully, at the top of their game.
Make reservations early, the crowd will be huge.

Wally,

10/22 is not Fall break is it???  I hate the years we have a home game at that time!  Wasn't Wooster on Fall break last year?  No students, no pep band, gross environment!

Quick story on the 2000 Witt/Wabash game...somehow, not sure how, I was tasked by our AD to ride the Witt bus from Wabash to C-ville H.S. to make sure they knew how to get there.  Boy, that was a lot of fun.  There I was standing up at the front of the bus with my Wabash gear with 60+ guys staring at me like I had just "jacked their moms."  Fincham was classic too, very intense - it was the longest 1 mile bus ride of my life.  That was Coach Carlson's last game against Witt.  They've been classic games since.

That was my concern when I saw the Witt date, BB90.  Good news though....midsemester break runs from the 13th through the 16th which is the weekend that we're away to Wooster.  The students will be fresh off of fall break for the Witt game.

And yes, the years where we have games at home during fall break stink.  I remember during my sophomore year we played a gross Illinois Benedictine team at home during fall break.  As I recall they busted two big plays on us (which accounted for nearly all of their yards offensively) and had a turnover returned for a touchdown and beat us 22-18.  That was just two weeks after we'd lost our top qb and top wr to knee injuries (on consecutive plays!), but there's no way Benedictine should have won that game.  The atmosphere just stunk there that day...there were about 15 people there and the place sounded like a library.  It was terrible.

Wally, you guys will still come up to see us won't you? We might even bring in extra bleachers like you and Depauw do. Remember wallys travel well.

Can't resist, even though your question was to Wally--count on lots of Bash folks, and students, too.  Can you put those extra bleachers behind the visiting bench so our
team feels us there?!!  Have only been to Wooster once, two years ago--visiting fans couldn't be further from the visiting bench during the game.  Have thought about encouraging fans to bring a tree stand.  A nice stadium, great atmosphere,  very nice folks, but another "Ohio" d3 stadium which puts visiting fans on the same side as the home fans--"controlled" placement, of course. ::)

Top 10 things I could have done on the Witt bus that day in 2000...

#10 - Proceed with Bash alum, John Horner's cheer (that he does at basketball games)...give me a W...give me an A...give me a B...
#9 - Sat down with Fincham, put my arm around him and discussed his game plan
#8 - started the song, "99 barrels of beer on the wall..."
#7 - whistled Barney's "I love you, you love me..."
#6 - growled back at guys while flexing
#5 - led them to the wrong field...maybe to Southmont H.S. (15 minutes out of town) to show Coach Fincham where I played H.S. ball!
#4 - tried to block the door and not let the Tigers off when we arrived at CHS
#3 - acted as if I had Tourette's - shouting obsenities the whole way
#2 - started making fun of their uniforms & how weird their "Ws" looked
#1 - did my best impersonation of Chris Farley's classic motivational speech..."In a van, down by the river..."

wally_wabash

#1a....pull a Harding on Donaldson's knee...we might have had a chance then.  :)

I'll be in Wooster in October.  Love visiting the CoW...good people, good atmosphere, nice stadium (can't give you the "good" stadium rating because of the bleacher situation), enormous smokestack outside the stadium (I'm jealous, I'll admit it).  But seriously, I like travelling to Wooster....beautiful campus (parking stinks though!) and it gives me a chance to visit some friends in Columbus for a weekend.  Hopefully things turn out a little better for us this time around.  We owe you guys one!

you know im really starting to like these "wallys"...looking forward to meeting you all on a crisp, sunny afternoon in Ohio...by the way, we use the smokestack to film the games, great view...

Bashbacker 16 come 90 come 2005

Ah, the price of progress.  Try "Bashbacker#16".

Understand that except for a few injuries - which are to be expected - the planets are beginning to come in allignment for 'Bash.  The scrimmage this weekend should sort out some positions going to the wire.  Have been told K-zoo cancelled their scrimmage ... they are either running stealth for the first game against 'Bash (new coach ... new offence/defense?) or else still weight lifting.

Pat

Is it do-able to transfer my "stuff" from Bashwins to Wabco?  They are the same ... just that I got Wabco to work on the revised post board and that name is fine with me?
