To Lancer's point,

I think we should wait until the conference play actually begins to decide if we can toss Witt into the garbage for the season.  there is still a possibility for them to run the table.  I certainly hope they don't!

The fact remains, however, that they are down.  And by God, I for one am goin to kick them while they are!!!

oldguy

Wally, the defensive problems for Witt started well before the 2003 season.  However, I never thought it would get this bad.

Despite what you hear in the news about Griffey, Kremcheck (sp?) is a good doctor and surgeon.  You don't get to where he is by luck.  Griffey is just brittle.  He plays 120% and it caught up with him...several times.

With conference play beginning this week around the country--what contingency, if any, is there in the play-off system if conference play cannot be completed on Nov. 12?

With a number of games in Texas "on the bubble" for the weekend because of Rita--when would such a game asTrinity/DePauw be made up?  Someone on the SCAC  board suggested games would be delayed until Sunday.  This storm is so huge, Sunday may not be possible either.

Has the play-off start ever been delayed in the past?

Too bad about Ohio Northern. Former Coach Kozlowski (?) brought the program up from the dust; maybe the talk on the boards from 2 yrs ago were right; there were rumblings of wrong-doings. How does this project into the playoffs/Pool C? Affect on the OAC & it's image?

Li'l Giant

I don't think it has any bearing on the image of the OAC. The punishment was, IMHO, excessive and late. It makes the NCAA look worse than it does the OAC or ONU.

BashDad:
You are correct re: the clavicle (collarbone) fracture.  it usually takes about 12 weeks minimum to heal, so allowing players back before then is taking a big risk.  Alma had a WR with one in the mid-90's, his occurred in about the second game as I recall; he was allowed back for the last 3 games as it was healing satisfactory but mainly because he was a SR.  That was talking a chance but he luckily made it through the end of the season okay.  However, recalll that did not work out that way with the freshman "whiz" Notre Dame QB a few years ago (late '80's).  He was allowed to return too early (about 8 or 9 weeks after the initial incident) and refractured it and thus missed the entire remainder of the season.  So the bottom line is as you say - unfortunately you can't rush healing.  Some fractures you can get by with playing, most not.

To follow-up on the Wash U. crowd issue:   thanks to you others for the additional info.  Those factors do make sense.  I do recall, however, that when I attended a U of C at Wash U game back in 1987 (it was a Sat night game), they had a very good crowd at the refurbished old stadium.  Perhaps, though, that was because the stadium renovations to the historic structure had just been completed as I recall.  U of C has the same type of problem re: student attendance.  Too bad, as both those schools have a storied football history, and you'd think there could be enough advertising and "pounding promotion" to get them to attend.  But, on the other hand, at least they still have the football teams (unlike the ridiculous Swarthmore incident/debacle ;D).

Thanks formerd3db.  I went through the collar-bone thing with my son during high school--he came back for two games in the end-of-season playoffs, but the first time he barely got touched on the basketball court it snapped again.  Can't rush it.

article on Rummel's status in the Richmond paper....as expected.

No suprises....If he's 100% or close....I hope he plays.  If he's not, they should sit him out.

Coach Keesling should listen more to some of the non-Wabash posters on this site...what is he talking about with this statement, ""They'll blitz a lot," Keesling said. "They have a phenomenal defense -- fast and they have good size."  Maybe he is a Wabash grad...  ;D

I have been gone from the broad most of the summer. Hello to all my old friends...
My take on the NCAC

At 0-10 Hiram (please prove me wrong) they are better but still the worst in the NCAC

At 1-9 Kenyon they get a win over Hiram and play some tough football in 2 years they will be winning 4 or 5 games

EC- 3-7 Witt can win with just O but EC isn't Witt

Oberlin 4-6 They have come a long way but the NCAC is better as a whole than 5yrs ago

Allegheny 5-5 not as good as the were last year but they will still make everyone happy when the beat Witt in the last game of the season, but will lose to OWU and Wabash

Denison 6-4 They own the bottom half of the NCAC and give the top half a few good games

Witt 6-4 They will be much better than you think and their D will be ok most of the year, however they still lose to Allegheny

Wooster 7-3 Will find out the hard way that Allegheny and Witt aren't as bad as what everyone thinks

Wabash 7-3 The most talent in the NCAC this season but can't get it done aginst Witt and OWU also lose to a VERY good Depauw team

OWU 8-2 the most improved but face a fired up Witt team and a good Wooster team and can't find the answers late in the game.

So Short, as of now, who do you think will win it all?

oldguy,

Lighten up, I was only joking. I know Kremcheck...I played on a softball team sponsored by his 'Beacon Orthopedics' office the past three years.  That was a jab at Junior.  I was definitely not implying he got to where he is by luck.

Sorry gobash..

Looks like he thinks Witt will win the NCAC....with one loss

and the OWU record (8-2) is impossible if they loose to both Witt and Woo.  They already lost a game.  hmmmmm.
