And the beauty of our system in Division III is that it doesn't matter one iota where Wabash, or any team for that matter, is ranked.  Our championships are settled on the field, completely independent of polls.  It's not as if Wabash has to worry about getting left out of the playoffs because we didn't get ranked high enough early in the season.  The recognition of being a top 25 team would definitely be nice, but it's far from essential.

Quiet intensity, you gotta love it!  Wish it was Friday and I was getting ready to leave on overnight to Delaware.  Go
L'il Giants--one game at a time to tend to unfinished business.  Can't wait for Saturday's game.  Hope to see many hundreds of 'Bash fans at the game.

Bashdad and Wally:
Hope you guys have a great time at the game at Shelby Stadium this Sat as well as hope the weather is fantastic.  Should be a great game and good luck to Wabash.  It would be great to see a huge crowd there, for both teams.  Wish I could be there in one sense, but will be at ours with Kazoo.  Hopefully, we'll get that first win.

The so called pundits who vote in the polls have never given Wabash any consideration.  (Just look at the undefeated team in 1982 that had been number 1 and wasn't even selected for the playoffs.) The only consideration Wabash wants is to win the NCAC AQ just as in 2002 on the field.  I suspect that if Bash ran the table and won the Stagg Bowl, it still wouldn't make it into the pundits top 25.  A pox on all their houses!  The only number that counts is having more on the score board than one's opponent.

Pat Coleman

Pox you. :)

I'm pretty sure that none of the voters on our panel were on the 1982 NCAA selection committee.

First down -

Wabash got plenty of respect last year in the polls. Wabash got plenty of respect in 2003 early in the season in the polls. Right now, they have to prove it on the field.

Sure, they were screwed in 1982. But I lay that at the NCAA for being idiotic to let polls decide playoff berths.

Pat -- It was enough that Tommy Mont was on the selection committee.

Pat,

Cut firstdown some slack - unless he is a TOTAL moron, he must know that d3football.com (or ANY .com) did not exist in 1982!!

I will, however, nominate firstdown for the coveted "National Paranoid Poster of the Week" award (quick, create such an award!)!  >:(

Li'l Giant

It must be a generational thing because none of my Wabash contemporaries ever get upset over 1982.

Of course, I was 5.  ;)

I never insinuated that. I told him we did not share any voters. Surely people from 1982 are still alive.

Pat, d'oh!

But I took his post as a shot at YOUR poll (as apparently you did as well, from your initial post) - WHETHER or not any of your pollsters were on the 1982 selection committee, he clearly implied that YOUR poll (which, of course, did not exit then) kept them from the playoffs  Don't go shooting your allies!  :D

Pat Coleman

Hey, I took it that way as well, but I objected to his attempt to tie two events together that were 23 years apart.

I guess this guy doesn't realize the AFCA poll ranked Wabash 15! last year at one point. No. 15!!

The AFCA poll appears to have a soft spot for the Centennial, Liberty League, Midwest Conference and the North Coast. From this group of leagues, combined, there's usually one legitimate Top 25 team, the NCAC leader. But that's it.

Pat,

I wouldn't lose sleep over it.  Wabash seems to have a really good squad this year, maybe they are using last season's finish and the perceived disrespect as an extra motivator.

All,

I am not saying this is a bad thing.  My alma mater did the same after a 9-1 season that included a loss to a horrible Thiel team.  I think the motto was "Finish the Job" or something like that....

Anxiously awaiting OWU/Wabash....my personal opinoin is this game will be close early, but Wabash's defense will step up and the offense will figure out OWU's scheme and pull away in the 2nd half for a 3 score win.

Polls are beauty contests.  Certainly d3football.com had nothing to do with the outrage of 1982.  Hopefully the members of that selection committee are rotting in the ninth level of hell where they belong.  Nonetheless, you missed my point - whether Wabash gets recognized in the polls or not is irrelevent.  The only poll that counts is the score board.
