LATEST WEATHER REPORT FROM WOOSTER:

SUNSHINE AND 67 DEGREES

BashDad

DarkSide-D:

Several Indian Tribes flourished in the territory known today as the Wabash Valley, notably the Miamis and the Sycamores.  "Ouibachi," was a shortened Miami Indian word for the Wabash River.  Interesting to note that when I taught at Indiana State University (Terre Haute--on the banks of the Wabash River), the school mascot was Chief Ouibachi, of the Sycamores.  Hence, ISU Sycamores.  Political correctness has now caused the Chief to go bye-bye (with his princess) and ISU's mascot is now the sturdy Sycamore tree.  I assume that Wabash College's name grew from the river in the vicinity, even though Crawfordsville is not on that river's banks.  Maybe there was a tribe of "Wabash Indians," I will defer to better historians.  It's all a little confused--I still don't understand a so-called "eastern run of the Wabash River" to the Fort Discovery area close to Dayton, Ohio!  Oh, well.

WOO vs. BASH

The atmosphere at Woo will be electric.  Any predictions on how many Bash faithful will follow their team to Wooster?  If my memory is correct Woo's visit to Bash land last year fell on the fall break weekend.  If this was indeed the case, how much did this play into last year's match up?

Wally,

I doubt you'd feel any different about Witt going to the playoffs instead of Wabash, would you? Would you not think it was "unfortunate", at best?

Yes, the atmosphere will be fantastic at The Papp on Saturday.  I sure hope that the Wabash boys enjoy playing at Wooster as much as I enjoyed playing in Hollett Stadium.  The energy, the crowd, the taunting, the intimidation, the travel, the challenge, the cold air . . . All of it can either improve or detract from your performance and experience.  As a player I made sure to take in as much of the atmosphere as possible, because you just cannot recreate that feeling.

Here's to hoping that Wabash and Wooster realize how much fun they are going to have Saturday!

(Darkside - Do you think Phil has 2 extra uniforms?)

MITCH:

Thanks for the weather up-date--a great day for a football game!

Ski, Wally may have a different estimate, but I would say you can expect 2-300 loud Bash fans at Wooster.  Hope there are more, but it's "a far piece!"

WABASH ALWAYS FIGHTS!!

Yeah, Wally, I'm sure you would be thrilled if Witt made the playoffs, even at 10-0.

I will cling to it as long as I can.  Right now, Witt controls its own destiny.  As unlikely as it may be to win out, I'm still going to stay as positive as I can for my team.

Go Witt!  Tiger Up!!!!!!!

wally_wabash

There would be nothing unfortunate about Witt going to the playoffs if they went 10-0.  They would clearly be the best team in the conference at that point, and as I've clearly stated earlier, the best team should go and represent the conference.  I would prefer to see Wabash in the playoffs, yes, but if Witt happens to be the best team in the conference and they earn their way, then so be it.  I wouldn't necessarily call that "unfortunate."

We don't have to worry about that this year because Witt's respite from the harsh reality that is their second-rate team is about over.  Earlhams and Hirams tend to hide a lot of flaws.  Wabashes and Woosters and OWUs tend to exploit them.

Funny, I thought Capital, Dayton and Alma exposed Witt's flaws!  :D
Wabash Always Fights!

Personally, Apone, I didn't much like the travel.  Yeager never let me pick the movie!  Although, the world class meal at Old Country Kitchen tended to make up for it.

Another very cool piece on Wabash/Wooster on the Wabash website...check it out...some good photos too... www.wabash.edu.

No question that Fall break impacted the crowd and the environment for last year's Wooster game at Hollett.  No pledge classes, few students, no pep band, etc.  It is Fall break now at Wabash which may also impact some students making the trip to Wooster.  I will not be able to make the trip in leading the mighty Brownsburg Pee Wee Jets in to the playoffs as the #2 seed.  Man, I hope we can shut down 8 year old Joseph Medgeski for the Jaguars!!!

Relieved to see the weather report.  DarksideD - do some iso work on Pynenberg, would be interested in your feedback?  He is on track to break the Wabash school record for tackles for loss in a season.  He's fun to watch!

Go Bash!!!

wooscot

An alumni football game between Woo & Bash???  Uh oh, hear that Lancer...looks like your return to glory is upon us!!!

oldgiant

WooScott - Be careful what you wish for!  The Hammer brothers spent part of the summer in Scotland where their forebearer (Stephen de Blair) stood with William Wallace at the Battle of Stirling Birdge.  Blair's ankles are fully recovered and BJ is still in great shape.  They are little busy at present coaching a young Whittier team, but you might lure them back on the field for an alumni game.

BashDad

God, how I hate Thursdays!  The "talking" is done on the "board," the "pick-em's" have been picked,  team preps are largely over--team members are now in their heads, reflecting upon the week of practice and the game plan that emerged--all focus is on the game ahead.  I remember the "down day" as a player (long, long ago),  I thought it was hard then....

Some big games this Saturday.  Best of luck to all.

wally_wabash

Alright, it's official.  I'll be at the Papp on Saturday.  If you Woo guys are going to be doing a little pre-gaming, I'd be more than happy to stop by and do some Witt bashing with you. :)
