BB 16  -  Fall break!!   Some free time for the Bash students.  Gee, I wonder how many will use the opportunity for a road trip?  My guess, a whole bunch.  Sould be wild at Papp on Saturday.

Last minute interesting stat-line/story-line to watch in the Wooster/Wabash matchup.

Russ Harbaugh has had an interesting career against the Scots.  His combined statistics for the past two seasons are:

49-84 for 536 yards w/ 6 TD's, 3 Int's, and 14 sacks

Note:  Only 4 of those 6 touchdowns went for Wabash.  Wooster has take 2 of Harbaugh's 3 interceptions back for touchdowns.  Do not underestimate the impact of those plays in each game.  Will it happen for 3rd consecutive year?  Is it in Russ's head?

14 sacks is also a telling statistic.  How much as the Wabash line improved?  9 sacks 2 years ago, 4 sacks last year, can they bring that # down even further?

Just observations.

I would hope the students would use the opportunity to go see the game. I remember in '97 using the beginning of our spring break to drive to a cold and rainy Chicago to see the NCAA hoops playoff game between Wabash and UofChicago and having a great time doing it, despite the loss.

Wooscot,

You have to have glory before you can return to it.  I'd like to be there but I have more interest in other games this weekend.

As a Penn State fan I finally have something to be happy about for the first time in a number of years.  Of course, that could all come crashing down tomorrow.  After my trip to Happy Valley last week I am officially back on the bandwagon for now.

As for the 'Bash-Woo game I don't really know what to think after the Scots laid an egg last week.  I had the same feeling when I opened the paper as I did for the Oberlin game a few years back.  Total shock.  However, this is a new week and maybe the Scots will use that as motivation.

I think the home-field advantage is a key for the Scots but I don't know if they have the better overall team.  I expect Wabash to win although I think Woo will be ready to play and the score will be closer than some on this board have predictated.

Go Scots!

Oh come, come Lancer.  Let us not forget when Woo lost to Oberlin they beat Bash.

Although, for you Woo fans that would like a lil useless stats the mean nothing to tomorrow's game, or the future for the Scots:

'03- Woo is 4-0 going into the Oberlin game, Lose to Oberlin, then the following week to Gheny (Eventual conference champs).
'04- Woo runs the table for championship

'05- Woo is 4-0 going into Kenyon game, lose to Kenyon, then the following week...?
If we lose to Bash, Bash will solidify at the least a co-championship.  though, I think the win would mean the Championship, IMO.  They are just too good defensively to fall prey to Witts high scoring offensive game (the saving point for Witt the last couple seasons.)

However, if Woo wins, this season can still become a shared championship, maybe even a sole championship (if the football gods feel that such should be the case, and they align the heavens)!

If Bash wins, perhaps the cards are being dealt for a clean sweep once again next season.

My Take on the Bash /WOO contest

WOO will move the football thru the air in the short passing game, but the Bash D will keep it to two scores or less. I don't expect WOO to run the ball effectively

The bash O Line makes a statement and the rushing game comes to life making the passing game that much better.

Bottom Line: Look for an extremely hard fought contest in a hard hitting slugfest... Bash wins 24 to 10

Apone:

You should expect to see very different line play from Wabash, on both sides of the ball, on Saturday.  We have respect for Woo in this regard, too--as you suggest, control of the line of scrimmage, protection for the QB, and avoiding stupid mistakes will be key in this game (as they usually are).  It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.  We Wabash folk expect a real battle at the Papp.  Can't wait.

Its fall break, and I hope a number of students show up (I and at least one of my pledge brothers are going), but I can't say many students with any assurance.  At OWU, when we brought our pledge class and a small group of actives, I thought we'd have a better turnout than we did.  Wooster is farther and over fall break, but we'll see.  Wabash Always Fights...perhaps they always attend.

(This is my first post to d3, but I've read for a long time, looking forward to joining the fray).

Lastly, Bart Banach, a projected start at wideout is healthy agian and will be playing.  Adding him as a burner will change the game, as Wooster has nothing on him in the way of scouting.

I think bash will control both sides of the line of scrimmage this weekend.  The o-line has got a lot of experience.  Trust me, they will not play like the line that showed up at Papp in '03(i was out there).  i know both of woosters d ends are good(watson and mizak), but Millikan and Hilts are absolute studs at tackle.  and on the d line i dont think many people will be able to stop them (t-co, kempf, lagne, and tj).  neathery will be blitzing backers all day long.  i look for a close game to be won up front by bash.

I really think as long as Wabash does not beat thierselves.  They will come home victorious.  They need to limit thier penalties.  Up to this point they have been a little sloppy.  If they limit both the penalities and turnovers.  It will be a Wabash victory.  Woo is a very good team and program, but I believe Wabash can only beat thierselves.  As always.

with the forecast indicating a little rain and quite a bit of wind, games of this magnitude often come down to special teams...Wabash stats include 4/5 FGs, 20/25PATs[24/30 overall] with Wooster 7/11 FGs, 17/18PATs[24/29 overall]...Wabash 19 punt returns with 13.1 yards per return, 1 Td with Wooster 19 punt returns with 13.0 yards per return, 1 Td...

maybe a few bounces here and there...should be a great game...

update no rain i guess...still quite windy...

Bash also got WR Gabe Guerrero back too...yet again, another 6'2 WR with hands and speed.  Not sure how much PT he and Banach will see in their first week - hopefully they will see some special teams action at the very least.

As I stated earlier in the week, I think the Bash O-line is very underrated and playing excellent football.  I think you will see that Saturday.  Tackle to tackle they are solid.

Regarding the comments about Harbaugh, also as we have said earlier, he is a "different" player this year.  I think you will also see that tomorrow.

I think Wooster will underestimate Bash's team speed and talent on both sides.  If Bash gets out early, look out!  I think the Little Giants are ready to play.

Vedy, vedy eeeenteresting news coming from The Daily Record over in Wooster, OH today.  The highlights:

- It's homecoming for Wooster.  I did not know that.  Should be cool to see what sort of pomp they bust out for that event.

- Schafer is 50/50 to play Saturday.  He hasn't run or tried to cut all week.  High ankle sprains are a bugger.

- Reiff has a deep thigh bruise and isn't particularly fleet of foot right now either.

Netiher one of those guys is going to be able to run much of Wooster's option stuff at all.  Wooster's 3rd stringer is an option style guy, but TDR isn't exactly raving about his arm.

The good news, according to the article, is that Wooster has a TE and an OT that have knee injuries and have been upgraded to "questionable."  That's the good news.  Yikes.

None of this, assuming it's accurate, lends itself well toward optimism for the Scots.
