Bagpiper, I agree that such a situation is not far-fetched.  It is possible for Woo to lose to Oberlin, though I think unlikely.  In regards to the excuses about the Kenyon game.  The weather was not a factor.  Kenyon played in the same rain and cold that Wooster did.  Except Kenyon did not turn the ball over.  That leads me to think it was poor execution on Woosters part.  As for Schaf being out hurt, that should not be an Issue.  Other players should step up and take the game over.  The same can be said for Woo's loss to Oberlin in '03.  Then, as was the case this year, the big time Offensive player for Wooster was out of the game.  But wooster did, and does, have other weapons at its disposal.  Tony Sutton was a great player, but without the guys up front at least getting in the way of the defense, he wouldn't have been able to do much.  The greatest players in the game (past and present) depend on the play of the rest of their team.  Wooster as a whole should have stepped up when Schaf was out against Kenyon.  The simple truth is, they didn't.  As stated before, Wooster simply did not execute, and in football, there is no excuse for poor execution.

If a kick is tipped or muffed by the returner and the momentum of the ball takes the ball into the endzone, then it is perfectly fine to take a knee in the end zone.  If the player has possession at any time prior to the ball breaking the plane of the goal and takes it into the endzone on his own, then he must bring it out.  I am gathering from your comments that this kick was touched near the goal line in the field of play but the momentum of the ball took it into the endzone post-contact.  In that case he has the right to down it without a doubt.

If the Rose Bowl rule is indeed true, Wabash can lobby for the AQ since their last title came in 2002.  Kenyon last won the NCAC in 2005 (Feb.10-12 to be exact)...in swimming.

I realize the polls do not really mean anything but it is pretty entertaining to watch and follow who is in and who is not.  For example, how about Thiel coming in at #18...they knocked off an overrated Wash & Jeff team in OT and then they break the top 25.  This week they barely beat a very average Waynesburg team in OT.  This is the same team that gave up 36 points to OWU nipping them by 3.  Or, how about Coe at #25???  They LOST to a 5-2 Wartburg team but yet remain in the top 25???  There are more but those are 2 that jump out at me.

Kcreds - you crack me up with "Jr.'s" high school report...man that is fascinating stuff...what is the high school?

Darkside - a bit surprised with the Pynenberg feedback.

Wally,
I wrote that as a hypothetical situation, this year it is not possible for kenyon to go 10-0 because of their 0-3 preseason. I was simply stating that if it were to happen Kenyon would go instead of Wabash due to the rule. It is not all that fair because of the power system scheduling but in a few years it can all be different. But at the same time the NCAC understands the same as the Big Ten that it takes a different cat in the classroom to attend Northwestern than Ohio State, and the same goes for Woo Witt and Wabsh vs. Oberlin and Kenyon.

How about Concordia-Moorhead?  Lose a game, move up a spot.  Sweet deal.

Oh, a wide-out is NCAC player of the week, and his name ain't Summers. Conspiracies abound!

Wow - guess I better burn my sheepskin since it doesn't say Oberlin or Kenyon on it.  That's OK - I can't read it anyway.

What a Joke........

I guess 452 is not enough yards.

I guess you can only win it once a year.  Schubert had a nice game, but nothing really that special and a game winning TD with 11:47 left, really isn't a game winning.... it's a go ahead score.

Oh well.  No big deal.  Guess we'll just have to put 453 up on Witt and hope that a Hiram, Earlham, Denison or Kenyon special teams player doesn't make a tackle or "run really fast" or Have a pretty jersey.....

reality check:

Thanks for your input on the "safety issue."  You are saying the same thing that buffett1963 is:  possession is key, whether the ball is first touched before it crosses the plane of the goal line, or not.  I have not yet have time to go to the NCAA rulebook, but have no reason to dispute what both of you are saying.  If I am wrong in my earlier statement, then I apologize to the officials for my statement about this call and to  buffett1963.

BB16 - Coe is an excellent team. Don't dis them or that conference. I'm going to do my analysis this week, but that conference was one of the best in D-3 last time I did it. Coe deserves to be in the top 25 - they were way underrated the way I saw it.

And they got more love from the voters - it was a tough week for those trying to break into the top 25. Besides, the shine was off of Wooster after Kenyon.

The NCAC player of the week situation is a total joke, and it's been that way for a long time.  Seriously, if the league office isn't going to bother to recognize the best performance of the week, just skip the award all together because as it stands now there is about a thumbnail's worth of credibility behind it.

Major, major thumbs down to the NCAC for this one.  Boo.

BB16 - Two weeks ago I had Coe 7th, and Coe was 5th in the quality of win index as of last week. So again, that's a bad, bad example.

There were just no spots to move into this time. No biggie.

I read on the NCAC Pick Em page that there is a Mike Gregory Award in the NCAC?!?  I can only assume that it is the same Mike Gregory that has an award in the OAC for player of the year.  So my question, without any evil intentions is this: Did Mike Gregory have anything to do with the NCAC?  I know he played at Denison when Denison was in the OAC.  Did he coach/AD there during NCAC years?  I just never knew there was another Mike Gregory Award.

From last year's POY release:

"The award is presented by Richard Gregory of Columbus, in honor of his father, a multi-sport standout at Denison in the 1920s."

Bagpiper,

It doesn't take a different "cat" to attend Wabash or Witt or Wooster rather than Kenyon or Oberlin.  Similar academic standards is one of the many reasons we are all in the same conference.  Secondly, I'd be careful talking up Kenyon's academic standards on this board.  I know of one graduate in particular with current Wabash ties who has a ton of trouble putting a sentence together, not to mention horrendous spelling.  :)

Making an excuse for Kenyon by claiming they work harder in the classroom is asinine.  Other excuses, such as them not creating the schedule, make sense.  The academic card is lame.
