The academic card is lame.

Where have I heard that before...

Thanks for the info but that sounds pretty much like what I found out but it still doesn't tell me if Mike Gregory had anything to do with the NCAC directly.

It would seem he didn't if it references the 1920s. I guess they keep some allegiance to Denison and whatever conference Denison is in.

Agreed re: no spots to move in. For the second week in a row I didn't change any teams on my ballot, just a little reshuffling (wasn't voting for McDaniel, Hampden-Sydney, UW-Stout, Wooster or other teams that lost). Wabash did more than double their votes, however, and a win against Witt will make it easier for Wabash to get votes because they will be the undisputed league front-runner (with apologies to Kenyon).

RC,

Denison was one of the Founding schools with the NCAC.  If Mike Gregory was truly a great player, then perhaps it is simply a way of honoring one of the conference teams' greats.

Wally -

I did some checking and it was not only the best performance of the week, it was the best performance (total passing yards) of any NCAC QB since Sept. 1 2001, when Greg Neuendorf threw for 488 yards against Waynesburg.

So the NCAC Admin. (Denison - President, Earlham - Vice President) failed to reward the best performance by a QB in the league in almost 4 years.

knobel@denison.edu - President
ncac@northcoast.org

For those who are interested, here are the top individual passing yardage performances in the NCAC for the past 4 years.

2004 - (439) Ryan Holmes  - Witt vs. Woo
2003 - (361) Bubba Smith - Gheny vs. Denison
2002 - (373) Jake Knott - Bash vs. Witt
2001 - (488) Greg Neuendorf - Denison vs. Waynesburg

The league is wrong and may be drinking some lower tier cool-aid.

Once again nothing against the Oberlin player.  He played a great game.  But he is not the NCAC Player of the Week.  That spot belongs to #3 from the Wabash Little Giants.
Why should you go for it on 4th down?

NCAC Player, from a school that doesn't get much press and may never win the conference championship and has only won one game and had good statistics playing another one of the lower tier teams in the league, of the Week Award.

Amen...i think he has a future as a "surgeon"...i would love to watch him when he wasn't playing my team{an old saying from my father, a baseball coach}...

Smeds - we can agree to disagree but THEY LOST to an unranked team!  Yes, Wartburg is a quality opponent but they lost!  With over 200+ teams in D3, you lose to an unranked opponent, you should be out.  Use Thiel then...no big deal (seriously), just interesting to see the shuffling.

What is unbelievable is the fact that Russ Harbaugh was not named the NCAC Offensive Player of the Week!!!  That is simply incredible and completely ridiculous!  Maybe it went to the Oberlin kid because of the "HIGH STAKES" in that power matchup.  Harbaugh steps up against the defending league champion (who now suddenly suck because Kenyon beat them???), at their place, on Homecoming and goes 28 of 42 for 452, 4 TDs and 0 INTs in leading a 653 yard effort - total offense.  No one can even try to justify that.  I agree with Wally, why even have the award!  That is a complete load of crap.  I would love to hear the explanation.  That is a complete joke!

Amen...again the kid should be a "surgeon"...strong arm but even better head...

Woa nelly!!!

Wooster does not suck because Kenyon beat them!  Lets get that straight.  Wabash was clearly the better team.  I hope you were using that to reference someone's point earlier that Woo lost cred due to the Kenyon loss.  As far the high number of passing yards, lets face it.  Woo's pass defense isn't all that great.  In fact, it has been Woo's achilles heal for the past couple of years.

Thanks Pat...I was about to unleash the fury...

Oh I forgot to give my useless rant about the fans this week.  You bash guys will like this.  Some random ppl show up at half time by where I am sitting, make a comment about the game, then wonder if the team woo is playin is any good.  Then they ask who they are.  Amazing, I typically know who I am watching when I go to a sporting event.  Maybe not their record, but their name.

Oh, by the way Darkside, you might be interested to know that the Wabash commentators mentioned the Wooster band this past weekend in their broadcast.  More specifically, they questioned the wisdowm of the band in playing while Woo had the ball :)
