Owu spread the carries out early and Willis is fun to watch , lots of cuts after getting to the hole or corner . Denison seemed to penetrate more in the 2nd half. Hymes ran the option some but optioned few if any times . As I stated before he scrambled from the rush and what could have been pass plays resulted in a carry. In any event , he got the job done.

David,

I tried to quote the same text to Smed (was going to accuse him of being a math major ;)), but could never get anything to quote except his WHOLE post.  Since almost everyone these days is quoting, I assume it's easy, but I failed.

HOW do you quote a PART of a post?  (I tried 'highlighting' the section both before AND after hitting 'insert quote' - didn't work for me.)

Pat Coleman

Like any other post, you can simply delete the parts you don't want.

Pat,

That's too obvious and easy - no wonder I didn't think of it!  Alas, Occam's Razor (though I TEACH it!) has never completely penetrated my thick skull! >:(

Is Rummel from Earlham done for the season?

27 carries is still IMO too many carries for a quarterback unless he is built like superman.  Too many chances of getting hurt. I am assuming Sir Louis got hurt running the ball. You gotta have a running game.  Harbaugh is a great passer, but they ran the ball on Wooster enough to keep Wooster's defense guessing. And it was not Harbaugh running.  He ran 4 times for 0 yards, but his running backs had over 150 yards rushing.

Nike, I hope others will see, read, and take these words to heart.  RUN THE BALL!!  Especially when you have an O-line averaging 6' 2 , 281 pounds.  And when you have an All-American Tackle at 6' 4 305 whose strength is the Run block!

Perhaps you should try the new Occam's Xtreme Razor, with 13 blades to penetrate any tough beard, not to mention skulls.

Mr. Ypsi

gobash,

I suppose that was obvious, but no one ELSE posted it!

I 'applaud' you!  (Though 13 blades into my skull is a BIT scary!)

NIKE:  RE:  not understanding Woo's lack of a running game.

What you don't understand is that you are not supposed to understand; at least this is how I understand it.  One observation that I have made over the years is that coaching has an understanding of the game and their team that we are just not meant to understand.  Whether it be baseball, basketball or football you will find that we fans are not on the same wavelength much of the time.  This lack of understanding, by us fans, of their understanding does fuel sports talk shows and forums like this.  So maybe what we should understand is that by not understanding them we are moved to vent our misunderstanding.  One thing I do understand is that venting is good, so they really have our best interest in mind by leaving us misunderstanding.

Pat, or anyone else -- can you outline or provide a URL to information about medical red-shirts and what are the qualifications? I heard Rummell wants to red-shirt this year, but he played in three games, which I thought would be too many. I know Witt has a couple of guys this year that got hurt in their third game.

Do any Witt fans know if Murray is coming back for a fifth-year next year? I believe he has one more year if he wants it since he missed a year with an injury at Brown.

As for Wooster and its play-calling, I agree with the assessment about the running game this year. Tinsley went from looking like an all-conference back to a bench player.

I've always wondered why they never throw to their running backs. Sutton, one of the top 5 backs ever in Div. III (and a receiver for one year at Findley) caught only 26 passes in 30 career games, including just 6 in 12 games last year. This year, backs have eight catches in six games (12 yards per reception, one touchdown), and just one catch in their last two games. I would think a few screens with the aggressive front of Wabash would have been effective.

Josh Foster loves screens......I hope Witt throws a few.

Teams have been trying to throw the screen all year against Wabash and most of them have been blown up for losses.   Defending screens is all about instinct and speed.  Wabash D has quite a bit of both.  That may be why Woo didn't go there much.

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

I obviously have no way of knowing if Wabash or Foster has been stopping the screen this year, but a quick glance at Wabash's box scores shows that running backs have caught a few passes against them this year and have gotten some yardage. Not great, but no losses. They may not have been screens. Whatever. But I also doubt that the teams Wabash played before Wooster had Wooster's offensive line and were running a spread offense with a shotgun on every down. All I know is that some screens or swing passes to Sheppard would work better than running him right into the pile.

Seinfeld -

I agree the screen is a very good way of punishing defenses for being too aggressive.  Last year, I felt that Wabash could have used to screen a bit more when our offensive lines was having major problems at times.  Woo's offense line did a great job against our front four on Saturday and maybe they felt they could do more with passing downfield.

As far as the losses this season, I don't really know, maybe the ones we've blown up have gone incomplete or gone for a yard or two.
