BB#16,

I was just wondering.  I know that he backs off when he feels he has a senior-laden team with good leadership.

My junior year when we went to the playoffs, we only went full pads on Tuesdays.  Half pads Wednesday and Thursday.  CC felt that we were mature enough not to let up and to realize that half pads didn't mean less intensity.

Once you get to this point in the year, practices are pretty much all mental anyways.  I was just wondering if this year's team, as mature as they are, has cut down on the contact yet or not.  Thanks for the info.  :)

Ski,

Woo only had a one back set because their fullbacks were all hurt, and there wasnt enough time to move someone from another postion.  Still, Shep did a damn good job considering.

OberlinParent,

I can tell you, the 49-7 schlacking Woo put on Oberlin last year was not a very physical game.  It was more like an elephant swatiing a fly.  Perhaps you were talking about the Oberlin game two years ago, when the obies upset the Scots.  I wouldn't say that was a physical game either.  More like one team playing down to the level of the other.  Perhaps even more important was the fact that one team absolutely did NOT respect the other team.  This lack of respect on the part of the Scots (the Better team) to be beaten by a team that was just discovering its competitive spirit.

I will give the obies this though...they have come a long way from being the conference scrimmage.  It is nice to see the bottom teams rising up and taking a bite outta the top teams.  Too bad the top team is only Wooster.   :-[

Russ is a great guy and is immensely bright.  I'd say that his intellectual curiousity is refreshing

He must take after his mother! ;)

Naked Nott Run

Was curious how you guys view the Liberty League... Do we have any respect from other conferences or what???
Anyone notice how none of the kids from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were even a little bit cool... Where was the athlete who pile drives wonka into the chocolate river??? Coulda done sooo much more with that "classic"

All I know about the LL is that Otto Graham was at the Coast Guard after his playing days with the Browns and that Union had a good program and updated stadium. My friend's dad played at Rochester; does that count?

All I know about the LL is that Hobart/Union game ought to be pretty good.

Aside from RPI's recent run to the final four, the LL hasn't made much postseason noise.  I think it was ranked pretty low the last time ATN did a "rank the conferences" column....lower than the NCAC I believe.  Hobart is also ranked about even with Wabash which tells me that the voters have similar concerns about the relative strength of the league.

I can't really say whether or not I have a ton of respect for the LL...the resumé is pretty pedestrian.  I can't say I don't respect it either because I don't follow the league very closely.

I remember you from your days, at Mt.Veron HS football.  I guess you know all about how to play down to other teams levels, from your High School Days.   I guess you didnt understand what I wrote.  I wrote ''Ask the Wooster players about the phyical game they had at Oberlin, last weekend.  If you were there you would have to ask.  I counted TWO Wooster players, being helped off the field from a big hits.  Chris Schubert rocked Andy Mizak-48, on his butt.  Schubert is a wide out and #48 is a linebacker.  As far as respect goes I would say that they just dont like each other!!  Sorry Mr. Cline but Wooster, without Sutton is NOT a top team!

Looks like another battle in Pigsty stadium in Meadville.  Here's mud in your eye. ::)

oberlinparent - easy big guy...wooster may not be a top team this year, but they're still way ahead of oberlin as a program, and your attack on darkside is illogical, inappropriate and way off base. first of all, tony is definitely not his name. not sure where you got that one from. and i think it's ridiculous to call posters by their real name on this board anyway. that's why you get to choose your handle.

second, if oberlin ever had a player half as good as darkside, you wouldn't be so paranoid about a lack of respect from the rest of the league. but i guess 44 game losing streaks will do that to you. he was a captain of an NCAC championship team. how many oberlin players can say that? and he must have done a decent job of not playing down to other team's levels seeing as how wooster was 10-0. again, to my knowledge, oberlin hasn't come close to that lately.

i wasn't at the game saturday, but i wonder if you were there either, considering mizak is a defensive end, not a linebacker. considering the positions they play, i assume the receiver blindsided him. not that that's bad, but it's not like he ran him over in a head-to-head collision. but regardless of position, every player at every level gets knocked down at some point. that's the beauty of this game.

from 4 years of games vs. oberlin, i can promise you i never saw one big hit from an oberlin player, except for the dirtiest cheap shot i've ever seen in football in the 2000 game. it's nice to see the yeomen starting to turn their program around, this time without resorting to junior college transfers, but they're not even close to wooster's level yet in terms of annually contending for the conference championship. don't get me wrong, most NCAC fans respect oberlin's program now and the improvement that they've made. but you've got a long way to go before you can spout off like that.

Doesn't the high school football field in Meadville have Fieldturf (or some variation of synthetic surface)??  Is there any good and sane reason why playing there isn't an option?

And considering that the year that RPI made noise, the Liberty League was still known as the UCAA, the LL itself hasn't done much to make noise since they announced their new name and the addition of three teams in 2004.  I will however look up the Hobart/Union and Union/RPI outcomes.
