Just looking at the NCAC schedules for 2006 and 2007, and Ohio Wesleyan actually has a lower Power Rating(#6) than Oberlin (#5). Just a little food for thought in the Wing-T and who is the third-best team discussion in the NCAC.

Goode points by both Wally and Vince.

I would say that the academies run those offenses by necessity since they can't recruit the big lineman and break out players.  I don't think it has much to do with not caring about sending people to the pros.  They have as much or more pride than other programs.  They will run the offense that best allows them to win as many games as possible.  In their situation, it probably IS the wing-t or variations thereof.

I agree with Wally about OWU.  I think we comment on them because we would like them to be able to seriously compete and be able to win some games in the playoffs.  It would be great for the conference to have 5 legitimate contenders every year that can win games in the playoffs.  With some of their defenses, I definitely believe OWU would have won a couple NCAC championships in the past 10 years with a better offensive scheme.

I'd bet if OWU attracted a strong armed QB, they would at least tweak their scheme to accomidate him.  Although I doubt they could get him to go there.  What throwing QB would want to run that offense

For the record, I also dislike the spread 5 wide offense like Texas Tech.  Bad in short yardage and goal situations.

Of course, those power ratings were set when Oberlin had their Kenyon-esque run a few years back.

Darkside: Was that '01 game in Delaware when, the one yard, as you mention, was in fact, the last play of the game, and COW was not even in FG range. They threw deep to the WR and fell incomplete. The Capone team, I feel, was a solid club; veteran, strong OL, good QB & the traditionally tough Bishop "D".  Vince Mac: As a former WR, I want jets on my outside, creating havoc w/DB's & LB's - stretching the defense, then having a "Capone" giving me a 1000 yds. In a high school football hotbed, I don't think Iam asking for too much. GO BISHOPS

aueagle,

You are correct on that.  But, OWU did have to rally in the final minute to score a touchdown and take the lead before Woo drove down close enoguh to take one final crack.  Unfortunetly I felt that it was a huge turning point in our season.  We went on to be 4-6.  Had we won that game I though we could have won a few more games and definitelty competed a little better.  However, that loss broke our backs as we had Wabash and Witt the following weeks and they were flat out better teams than us.

As for all this offense discussion, it is all nonsense.  Throughout history there have been many winning combinations no matter the performance of one unit.  Football remeber everybody is still a team game and it is a matter of putting together all three phases of the game.  If you can win 59-56 or 3-0 so be it.  If you can only muster a field goal then you better shut that team out.  There is not one common formula and many offense schemes and defense schemes can be effective if they are executed AND you have talented players, which is more important than any scheme period.

Bh: I like my comma....my teacher always told me it is like taking a breath in the middle of the sentence. lancer98: Your memory is correct, sir! There, I got my comma in.

aueagle,

That's exactly the point I was trying to make.  Speed on the outside keeps those DB's and outside backers honest.

Okay, unless asked to contribute, I'm done with this discussion.

Vince,

The pass, as I remember, did not fall incomplete.  The reciever caught the ball, and was tackled/forced outta bounds at the 1 yrd line after the clock expired.  Yes, Woo was outta range at the begining of the play.  But, like I said, Woo lost by 1 yard.

This is without question the best/most balanced wing-T discussion on this board in years.  Good points all.

Smed ... you are correct ... However, that does not have to be the end of the story for the Obees.

Oberlin should employ the "Modified Kenyon Fit" : ... threaten to refuse to play Witt or Wabash unless the Oberlin power rating is changed with schedule change ...  NOW!!! ... and employ this tactic just before the season starts along with the telephone number for the Huntington football office.   It should work ... causing the NCAC bureaucrats to quiver, have another latte, provide  several wild card points in favor of Oberlin toward the 'All Sports - Anybody but Wabash - Trophy' ... and throw Hiram to the dogs.

Good tribute to the Wabash football seniors...you can see it here...

www.wabash.edu - I can't believe these guys are seniors.  Their 4 years have flown by!

I noticed DePauw slid in to #10 in the South region.  What a Bell game this year!!!

FS4 - what kind of question is that?  We'll be there around 10:45...Ribeye sandwiches on the menu...

Wabco - the all-sports lines and anti-NCAC administration rhetoric are tiresome. There is NO consipracy - and I doubt that anyone would try that again as long as the football numbers are up, and they seem to be up everywhere.

I remember watching film on the ending of that OWU-Wooster game.  It was quite the amazing finish.  One of the best I had seen in a while.
