Will Saturday, 1 p.m. ever get here??!!  We have some
"unfinished business."

Best of luck to all in the NCAC who are playing this weekend--my hopes for good, hard-hitting, safe football play for all!

WABASH ALWAYS FIGHTS!!

Watch for evil that always lurks in Dannieland ...

they never look you in the eye ...
they lurk around and try to improperly steal signals ...
they cry "campus cops"  and state police when the Bell is rightly liberated ...
they bury it in the endzone ...
they hide it in sheds ...
they put in in closets ...
they weld it high in the gym ...

still to no avail ... it keeps yearning for the 'Bash and to be filled with victory beer and toted from housing unit to housing unit to find itself proudly displayed for all to see over the entrance door to the sports complex ...a new concept for DePauw ... to not hide it ... to celebrate it ... to have cajones.....

Nice article in this week's SPORTS ILLUSTRATED

Nice article in this week's Sports Illustrated, "For The Love Of The Game." D2/D3 get exposure & respect from the national weekly that disses them on pre-season coverage and the playoffs/championship. Good luck to Wabash in The Bell game.

Mr. Ypsi

Agreed about the SI article, but did you notice that they STILL couldn't keep it straight?!  The final vignette was about a 'd3' coach who actually was coaching at two d2 schools!

Even when they TRY to do good, the national media doesn't know squat about d3!

Thank you, Pat!  [THANK YOU, THANK YOU ....]

interesting stat on the cciw board: augie's sr class secured the cciw title last week w a win v north central. that means that every senior class since 1978 has won the conference title at least 1x. not bad for a wing t team that can't compete at the next level.

USee,

Please stop briging that Wing-T crap on this board.  We have finally put it to bed here, and don't need it taking up valuable Wabash talk.  Yes, we have said that the Wing-T can't take it to the next level any more.  When (if) the Augies do that this year, they will most likely made believers out of us that don't like the Wing-T.  If not, the lack of respect for that offense will continue.

Again usee,

As Darkside said.  When they win a championship or even get to the final four, I and others will give Augie and the Wing-t props.

Let's just say, I'm not too worried about having to show that offense respect any time soon.

WOO:   With every game that has been played this year, it becomes more apparent that Woo's seniors from last year were a very special group.  I looked for this year's junior class to show some ability at filling the gap.  That is not totally evident at this point of the season.  Yes, this year's team has dealt with injuries and the filling of those departed senior's shoes.  So it is hard to grade their progress on the field, but it's not hard to grade their fire.   Juniors, do to the small size of this year's senior class, that's your lead.  So far the Junior class has shown less fire than a Bic lighter.  So let's see, one game left, Juniors it's time to start a fire.

GO SCOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Darkside- if i recall, i wasn't the one who brought this topic up. also, last i checked this is a chat board open to everyone and any topic. i simply brought up a point i believe relevent to a recent conversation. feel free not to participate.

olduy- you continue to prove your stupidity.

good luck to wabash this weekend. I for one am a big fan of the little giants program and would love to see great success in the playoffs this year!!

Regarding Woo's issues this season, its apparent a lot of us old alumni/former players underestimated Sutton's value to Wooster's offense.  I know that sounds ridiculous, but myself and other believe Wooster would be able to simply shift from a heavy run to a more balanced attack this season without much of a drop-off.  I'm not placing blame, but I think its pretty apparent that the returning skill positions in the grand scheme of things were not ready to shoulder the burden of a Sutton-less offense.  Perhaps that's what happens when you rely on one player for too long - the other players do not develop into impact players.  I anticipate Wooster will end on a high note this weeked against the Bishops, but hopefully Schmitz & Co. will re-tool in the off-season and design a scheme that will be effective against the top-flight, if there is such a thing this year outside of Wabash, competition in the NCAC and Midwest.   :'(

On that note, any word on recruiting?  I know its early, but most HS's are done and given Woo's needs, I would think they're hitting the phones hard.

Superfoot Wallace

I was reading somewhere on D3football.com or possibly  more specifically on post patterns about the modus operandi of the different regions something about how Texas and the South in general have the behemoth lines, the West has the exotic offenses, the East has the speed and Ohio and Pennsylvania play is the toughest.

Wooscot, I think this sort of speaks to the issues at Woo this year.  You go over to the HCAC and their progeny, and you see all these spread and finesse offenses.  (As a side note, almost forms a border land between the traditional I smashmouth that seems to be favored Ohio side of Indiana and the edge blocking, dare I say Wing T style smashmouth blocking as you move into Illinois and Wisconsin.)

What Im trying to get at speaks to my favorite football philosophy, "dance with the gurl you brung."  While there always that cutthroat attitude of "what have you done for me lately,"  these philosophies arent just about personnell, but format as well.

Players like Sutton dont come around very often, but I dont understand scrapping a mindset or format because of one players graduation.  It seems to me from reading this board all season, that Woo was running the same stuff that brought them to the top since 1996 until about week three.

Correct me if Im wrong, but I thoguht they were winning, albeit closely, with this format early on.  Then, suddenly changes course.

As far as the what have you done for me lately, it would seem to hold bad intentions for the spread.  The I was working well for Woo qbs when they were the catalyst back in 96, so the offensive evolutiion (dare I say regression) for Schaffer, didnt make sense to me at the time I first heard of it.

Just to drudge up the remnants of the wing t spread style blocking, Why didnt Woo keep two backs just move away from the I edge blocking and go to a trap style with an offset fullback ala Northwestern Barnett???

This seemed to me to be the most plausible next step in the evolution of the Woo offense as opposed to a drastic shift.  If it aint broke, dont fix it, but that doesnt mean you cant tinker.

Leave the wide open stuff to the Indiana, Minnessota and Oregon boys.
See that, that spells Adidas

Augie runs it like nobdy else.  A few years ago against MUC in the layoffs they ran it  to perfection.  Unfortunately MUC's offense was unstoppable at the time.  The game was very close and Augie had the ball for 45+ minutes to 15 minutes but they could have easily been national champions that year.
