I woke up today as I have the previous 12 Saturdays....cup of coffee, newspaper and a little breakfast.  But this Saturday feels a little different, actually alot different.    Something is missing.

Bash Football.

The denial has worn off, the unbelievable is now reality.  Good luck to Capital today against the Evil Empire.  Word of advice, If you take one of your  X-wing fighters into the core of the Alliance Deathstar and fire the neutron phaser with full power, you can take em out. Good luck!

2006  Bash Football

I am not as worried about the returning talent.  It is definately a reload situation.  Huff and the offense will be just fine, we will still have the "who do you cover?" offense and a solid o-line.  We will still have important pieces of one the the best defensive squads in school history.  We will have some important holes to fill, but I believe in CCs ability to recruit freshmen that can start on good teams.

My concern is leadership.  Who will it be?  I believe this years team accomplished what it did in large part becuase of leadership.  Sure there was extreme talent, but without the chemistry and team attitude that leadership formulates, this year would have been different.

If we get some strong leadership from this team, 2006 could be another special year.

*sigh*  Not "neutron phaser with full power", man, it's a small thermal exhaust port that's ray shielded, so you'll have to use proton torpedos.  You think you can hit a less-than-two meter thermal exhaust port with neutron phasers?  Especially when it's ray shielded?  You keep believing that, because it's absolute fiction...sheesh  ;)

And good luck today to Capital.  It'll help if you have the spectral figure of the Darth Kehres' mentor, Obi-Wan KenWable, there to guide your hand, and spout pithy wisdom like "Run the ball, Luke, Run!" and "Use the fourth down!".  So see if you can get ahold of him with a ouija board (or a cell phone if he's still alive).

You have become wise Gobash and you can see that the training has prepared you for this day.  I will speak with the council immediately about your status in the Federation.  You must be patient and continue learning.  You are almost ready.

A couple of comments on some previous posts:

- I have posted this before but no one seemed to comment, although Huff is a Junior, he has 2 years left of eligibility because of a serious ankle injury in the Spring of his senior year in high school.  I believe he plans to use both if it works out.  That could be huge for Wabash.

- regarding CC & his staff's recruiting classes, one glaring thing about last year and this next year (that I do not see at other programs), there are NO glaring areas that we absolutely have to have a Frosh come in and start from the get go.  This says a lot about the program and the foundation that is there.  We had some stud freshmen this year (Peterman, Kraft, Banach, Gangloff, etc.) but none of them could break the starting lineup, I expect that next year as well from next year's incoming class.  There are no gimme openings unless they are a Pynenberg-type kid who has started 22 straight games since he stepped on campus.  I think that is the difference between re-build and re-load.

JK - thanks for the comments.  You guys were a classy bunch as well.  What did you think of the facilities & environment?  One last thing, when Harbaugh, Foster, Summers, and Coach Creighton were called to the post game press conference, they had to run through most of the Cap fans that had gathered on the west end awaiting their players from the locker room, when these the Bash guys came through, they all applauded - I thought that said a lot!  Very cool.

BB16 -

Your absolutely right.  This is no longer a program that will have young players needing to start to fill a hole.  If they earn the job, thats one thing.  But to do that, they need to be really good.  This is a great situation for the program to be in.

We had a lot of talented depth this year that was not needed because we stayed incredibly healthy.  Defensively, we saw this depth march in on every other defensive play to keep everyone fresh.  We did this without very much if any falloff.

Knowing the powers at be at the NCAC league office.  Witt will probably be picked to win the conference at the preseason league meeting, but as it was this year.  That ok with me.  All that matters is wins/losses.

With the CAP/MUC tied at half, any other Bashers besides me sighing and wishing big-time we were on the field against MUC today?  We were there, guys!  God...we'll never really know...

Another week of this type of inactivity and the OAC will pass us in posts.

They have run through about 20 pages just since the game started, and now have a hefty lead!

It's best not to think about it. But, hard not to. It would have been great.

20 pages of posts like:

"Dammit."

"Go D Go!"

"phew"

"The refs suck."

Insightful stuff.  Blech.

Most of it incomprehensible drunken gibberish play-by-play, albeit.

And a lot of it was in all caps. A loud room, to be sure.
