Grooming Logan for the Muskingum job is not that far fetched. His ties to the Muskies and his pedigree from Witt make him a good choice to take over. Heacock has been Muskie  head coach for 25 plus yrs. Not including the '06 season, Heacock is 105-128-4; a .451 clip. Muskingum is installing ProGrass Turf for aging McConagaha Stadium. Upgrading facilities and breathing fresh air into the program with a new staff can only help the Muskies in the OAC.

Ohio Wesleyan is embarking on a $22 million dollar drive to enhance and build new athletic facilities. The "Remembering Branch Rickey Campaign" will boost OWU into the top tier of division athletic facilities. Mr. Rickey was the guy who signed a young man to the Brooklyn Dodgers - his name was Jackie Robinson. In terms of impact tp Selby Field: upgrade to the perimeter wall around stadium, new track/surface, upgraded press box and installation of artificial turf. For those of you that have taken in a game in Delaware; the upgrades should make Selby even more enjoyable. This enhancement to the Bishop programs is just a scratch to what should & will come to the OWU football program. I'd like to start a OWU program called, "I Want Championships." I've said this before, the Bishops will be NCAC champions in less than 3 yrs, with a run in the playoffs.

OWU's facility in Delaware is already a very nice venue for football.  The improvements sound very good, and will  enhance the experience for both the fans, and the players.

Aueagle:

The improvements to Selby sound great.  That historic stadium will be even better, along with the other athletic improvements mentioned.  It will be good for them as well as the league to see OWU's storied program continue the upswing they've had the last couple of years.  Still a ways to go yet, appears headed in the right direction.  Keep us posted on updates please.

AUeagle,

2 questions no matter how many millions they pump in to Selby Stadium combined with the fact that "Junior" plays for them:

1.  Is the head coach still named Hollway?

2.  Does OWU still run the wing T?

If those answers are yes, keep dreaming on your title prediction and the playoff run...

Sorry, just being honest...

I realize where you are coming from.  However, keep in mind that facilities DO have a big impact on recruiting and improving talent, even if it is not on a "cure all" level.  At least it is a start.

Bashbacker #16- Thanks for putting Jr. on a pedestal, which was never my intention, but I will take it as a compliment.  ;)

aueagle is being optimistic and I share his view. My hope is the team will believe in each other and the system, because lets face it, it is the system they chose to play in. I respect their program as well as others. They have a hill to climb but I do not believe it is a mountain.  ;D

Here's two reasons why OWU will win and be successful.

1. They still run the Wing T

2. The Head Coach is named Hollway

I implore you to look at the offensive numbers for OWU vs. the top of the league over the last handful of years.  They are, in a word, offensive.  Simply put, you can't win if you don't score points.  OWU doesn't score points against the top of the league.

OWU has good players, but they're playing with one arm tied behind their back using that scheme.  The better defenses in this league have it figured out.  It really is that simple.  History tells us that to win this conference, you have to run the table.  I can see OWU winning a game or two against the other top teams in the conference, but not the four-game sweep needed to win the title.

It's not the players...it's the scheme.

This may be a dumb question (and I should know the answer, but for some reason my mind is blank on this right now), however, what is ProGrass Turf that you mentioned is being installed at Muskingum's stadium?  Is it another similar version (from a different company) of the other available synthetic turfs AstroPlay and Field Turf?  Just curious?

The rest of Division III is light years behind Selby Field in stadium quality.  That is without a doubt the nicest d3 stadium I've seen.  However, if they were really interested in winning championships, I think the money would be better spent on a nat'l search for a football coach.

Unless, of course, the school is satisfied with bringing in quality kids and winning more games than they lose, because they definitely do that.  It's a quality program, but I don't think the difference is in the facilities.

OWU could be a perennial contender - it's a question on whether they want to do it or not.

They are still in the mix of the "Big 5" but always seem to need an extra oomph that they never get.

I agree.  The facilities have very little to do with OWU.  Muskingum maybe, since they have been a lower tier program.  But OWU already had nice facilities.  The difference is the coach.  He's a great guy, but his offense is outdated.  OWU will continually finish 3rd through 5th.

Do you not think that perhaps the high cost of the school might play at least a little into that equation as well?  OWU is among the more expensive DIII schools.

I don't. Most of the NCAC is fairly expensive, and OWU does grant aid to 96% of its students. Many of the NCAC schools give a lot of aid.
