Remember, one and all, it's the Division III schools that make these rules, and not the NCAA.

wabco as a DIII head coach in 1992 my squad in Maryland was one of the first to go overseas and play (in Russia -defeating Euro-Asian All Stars 47-7 in March of 1992).  You are allowed to go once every four years and you are allowed ten practices (7 at home before you leave-3 usually in the host country and usually with the host team in a clinic-type of setting (you practice with them and teach them so to speak).  Maybe this practice has changed over the years - I am not sure.  We practiced three times on Russian soil in an indoor soccer facility and we played in the Central Red Army Sports Palace (low ceiling!).  The astroturf field was used in the '80 SUmmer Olympics, seated about 20,000.  Field was marked with 3 inch wide athletic tape for lines - no hashes - and screw together goalposts.  It was a good experience.  Enlightening.  Makes kids appreciate the USA more!

I believe it's once every three years now.

Illinihscoach:

My info was that it is (as Pat related) once every 3 years.  I understood you were able to practice 2 weeks before you go (so that matches the 10 days you mentioned).  I do not know about the 3 days practice in the foreign country ... I do not believe Wabash does this 3 day practice.  I believe they expand on the experience within the foreign country and play the game at the end.  Winning it is something to be desired ... but the full experience is the emphasis.  Additionally, not all players elegible are able - due to other commitments - to participate ... the result is that the Wabash team may be composed of members of several different strings, in and of itself a good situation as far as mixing and matching.  Wabash may win or not win the game on the scoreboard ... but the team will be the winner for the overall experience.

How about a Wabash recruit (WR) running 48.6 in the 400 Meters...ouch!

Their recruiting class is about closed out - likely CC & Co.'s best since he's been at Wabash.  Around 6 Indiana All Stars, 1 Michigan All Star, multiple top 50 Indiana players, and many all staters and guys that turned down D2 & NAIA offers.

...ready for camp to start!

I realize all you Wabash fans are a very optimistic bunch, but I still think its funny that the "this is the best recruiting class we've had" comment has become and annual occurrence.

I can set my calender by it every year.

Oldguy,

If my team had 0 conference championships since 2001 I would probably post something similar - sorry you asked for that.  The fact is, Coach Creighton has gained traction each year in recruiting.  Better relationships with in-state coaches, he knows the successful programs, better track record (successful track record at Bash), more connected - state coaching clinics, speaking engagements, etc.  He's done very well with each class - bottom line.

He hasn't had an entire class crash & burn yet and it won't be this one either.

wally_wabash

It's not possible for a staff to get continually better at recruiting in the first handful of years at a program?  Over the last couple of years I've seen more and more kids popping up on the Wabash roster from the stronger Indy area schools...an area that Wabash hadn't been previously tapping into a whole lot.  It's not at all a stretch to see these classes getting better and deeper as CC and his staff build pipelines to these programs.

And the proof is in the pudding...Wabash has gotten deeper and deeper every single  year since CC's arrival.  How deep was Wabash at linebacker last year?  Receiver?  QB?  The bases were covered last year and the bases appear to be covered pretty well for '06 as well.

It's great that you think Wabash optimism is funny, but what I find even more funny is your need to snipe without even considering the notion that such a post about a recruiting class might actually (gasp) be logical.  I can set my calendar by it.

Point is ... from the looks of the kids coming in for next year's Frosh ... they are one of the best if not the best yet.

Wabash optomism that it will translate into positive success?  Sure ... but this is also based upon the track record of Creighton and crew as to what they do with the talent once it arrives.

Two a-day practices start thursday for Panama.  Optomism ... yeppers.

If you can't have optimism in the offseason, when are going to have it?

Good question.  Ask Hiram.

I follow IN HS football pretty closely....do you have any names to go with these stats?  I know its been a tough year recruiting for DPU, so I was just wondering who the ones where that got away??

I think all we have to show for this years recruiting is Spud Dick, an undersized qb who has ok numbers.  I've heard Rogers likes the kids they have gotten from Chicago area but not much other than that.

oldguy

Wow Bashers, calm down.  I didn't say the optimism was funny, I said the fact that "every recruiting class is the best ever" is funny.

Hey, it may be true, I don't know.  But its also true that we hear it every year at this time, which is why I made the comment.

No reason to get your panties in a bunch.  Just relax.

P.S.  I still think its funny though.

I have a new favorite name in Division III football.
