I follow IN HS football pretty closely....do you have any names to go with these stats?  I know its been a tough year recruiting for DPU, so I was just wondering who the ones where that got away??

You'll know their names in 2-3 years.   ;D

I have some numbers on one recruit I spoke about previously.  Ryan Kerney, WR, North Posey:

60 catches, 1100 yards, 15 TD's.  Also played safety and had 3 or 4 int and a hell of a tackler.
Won mental attitude award in state 2A championship game.
Probably will play WR.  6'3"(maybe a shade taller).  Good not great spead.  Unbelievable hands(he catches anything and everything in his area) and great leaping ability.

Oh and this kid is probably one of the lesser known recruits.  He is going to be a great steal for Wabash before he is done.  One of main reasons he is there is that WR coach was Matt Piechoki who graduated from Wabash and played WR.  Senior year lost to Mount Union.  He really pushed Kerney to consider Wabash and once he got there loved it and loved coach Creighton and staff.

Tigerdadplm,

It's odd but it seems we really haven't been after a lot of the same kids.  It also seems Bash is on them much earlier throughout the entire process and DPU jumps on late - playing catch up.  I think recruiting is an area that Bash has clearly had the edge in recent years (over DPU).  This is especially true and a result of your coaching changes.  If Lynch would have stayed that may have been different.

3 I do know that have committed to DPU:  Eddie Schmidt (Churubusco D-back), Spud Dick (LC - QB), and Elijah Campbell (Ritter RB/LB).

I wonder if Spud would have gone a different direction if Huff did not have 2 years of eligibility left.  DPU's QB job seems much more wide open.  I am still convinced that is why Wiethoff chose DPU 4 years ago - for a better/quicker opportunity to see the field.

You said Huff has 2 years of eligibility left.  Do you know is he planning on coming back for a fifth year to Wabash?

Fijidoc,

Roger that...that is the plan if all works out.  Scary to think if he plays to his potential.

The Stevenson IL program is a good one.  Consistently good teams since the early 90's.  Fitch was an all conference player this past season.

Hey ...

How 'bout that Fitch Dick combination?

Haven't heard DePauw's name up here in central Michigan ... with the new Dannie coach coming from K College ... thought he might turn up here ... but so far .. he has not been Dicking around up or or Fitchen our recruits.

Sounds like some good pickups for the Little Giants.  Because they scrimmage Wheaton pretty regularly, I always have an interest in them.

I must have missed it, but where did Coach Mark Jozwiak go?  He had been a 'Bash the past five years, prior to that an assistant at St. Lawrence University and played at Western Maryland (now McDaniel) according to his bio which is still up on the Wabash football website.  Just curious; thanks.

Here is the article on Jake Gilbert.  http://www.thepaper24-7.com/main.asp?SectionID=24&SubSectionID=23&ArticleID=4726&TM=57756.8  - Jake was one heck of a player and should do a great job.

Coach Joz has accepted a high school teaching & coaching job in Texas.  He'll remain on staff until this Summer, which should help Jake get up to speed.

Thanks for the info/article, friend.  Much appreciated.  It sounds like a wonderful opportunity for Gilbert.  To be sure, decisions like that are always very tough, just like he mentioned.  Best wishes to him (and 'Bash) in his new position.
