That is one of the most absurd arguments that I have heard.  Because someone was the class of the league for 20 years it doesn't mean crap if they haven't done anything in the last five years.

TU I agree.

That's about how I interpreted it.  If this didn't give you a clue of the sarcastic nature of the post than it must have just flown right over your head:

Any real football guy knows that programs should be judged by what they did in the past so that the lesser generations can get free rides on the legacy of those who came before them.

I've always had to put up with living in the past with friends who are Steeler fans which was pretty much unbearable.  Only now that they finally won one for the thumb, those Steeler fan (so-called) friends of mine are even more unbearable. ;)

Witt fan is starting to remind me of Steeler fans.  Living in the past will only get you so far.  Bring up about how mediocre Witt has been the past few years and it all turns back to most wins in NCAA history, most NCAC titles, blah blah blah.  It all sounds nice, but it's not going to win you any more games.

My read ... for some reason, the Witt Sports Info guy (or else the local community) requires a self pumped news release.  FINE.  Wabash generally does not reveal much ... positive or negative.  We get what we get ... we do believe in ourselves ... and that is that.  Witt ...  I believe ... inside the factory ... operates the same way.  They work hard to recruit, have good coaches, good work ethic, have pride in what they do.  We are seeing the same traits/approach (already developed) in Gheny ... and Woo and being established again in OW.

I look for a fun fall.  I think Wabash should be favored ... first because they are Wabash (the second winning-est program in NCAC World History and most recent "heap topper"), then because they will be good (with just a couple of Q marks).  I also think Witt will be there ... a few more Q marks but the base is there.  Gheny will be even with Witt ... they were a buster last year ... blue collar as hell ... very bad Karma last year ... Karma should be good (or at least neutral) this year ... plus they play in a mud hole.  Woo ... next.  More Q marks but will get someone(s) unless that someone is on their game.  OW?  They are coming and work very hard/play hard.  Watch for them as a spoiler.  The rest ... unless there is some sort of Indy 500 pileup in the first turn by the leaders taking them out, forget it.

Having said all that ... Gentlemen Start Your Engines ... and GO WABASH!

Finally someone posted something that caused a stir in June. I was getting bored. It is very interesting to me to see some of the Wabash fans come out of the dark as soon as Witt is mentioned. I see it as a rivalry intensifying. There is so much animosity and respect between the schools. This makes the outcome of that game that much more special. I envy Witt's and Wabash's success but I do like the underdog role of OWU. Is it just me or is wabco sounding like Macleod? ;D Goooooo Bishops!

Thank Goodness for Pat and Scotsfan.

I'm a SCAC guy and a Trinity alumnus.  We have the potential for a situation down there similar to what has taken place in the NCAC between the former and current champions, and I figure that Wabash folks would know a lot about this and probably have tendencies that are much like those of their archrival, DePauw.  Right now, Trinity is superior and has been for 13 years, case closed.  However, the San Antonio Tigers have not been as dominant since the Stagg Bowl, and the Greencastle Tigers have come awfully close to winning each of the last two times they have played.  Should DePauw finally knock them off with Spud Dick or one of the other incredible qb prospects they've brought in, are we going to hear the same type of whining from them as we do from the Wabash folks about who's better now?

First...funny post from earlier.  I chuckled.  Second...we have tendencies like those of Depauw? !?!  My skin just crawled.    I need a shower now.

wabco....I believe Allegheny has installed or is currently installing synthetic turf.  Yep, just checked the website...they're about done with it by the looks of it.  Here's the latest photo gallery:

They can't do anything about rain so I can't guarantee a dry track for games in Meadville, but at least the field should be respectable.

TU ... don't even mention DePauw and Wabash in the same sentence as having tendencies like each other.  The comonality here is that your school and ours should forever pound S_ _ _ out of the Dannies.

Also ... you should hope Spud Dick is their QB ... what great T-Shirt slogans does this name portend.

Wabash will beat the Dannies like a drum in November ... at our house in front of 11,000+ attendees.  You should hope to do the same.

Now, go wash your mouth out for saying something bad.

Those that have qualities we recognize in ourselves are often the ones we resent the most.

I think Witt is contractually obligated to mention they are the all time winningest program in D-3, even if they are on a run where they could go 5-5, 6-4 all the time. Isn't it in their bylaws or something.

Mind you, if Wabash could just forget that they played football during most of the 60's and early 70's...then we'd be up their in winning percentage!

Read the post as sincere, and the sarcasm as ironic understatement.  Just beg to differ the subtleties of sarcasms dovetails.  As a side note: Though it was a take on the Michigan Law School issue from a few years back.

Feel this opinion as to sarcasms intent and precision is bolstered by TUs follow ups, but could be wrong, usually am.  Did say Witt would drop one to Allegheny last year before the season started, though didnt expect the quisinart for the first three games.

The thing about Wabash is the respect they show for any opponent is about the same as shown for Depauw.  Depauws just like the common final at the end or something to the Bash faithful.  No respect.

Take Allegheny for example.  Took Witt a decade to pull off a win in Meadville after joining the conference.  Hell, took nearly a decade to pull off a win against the Gators in Springfield for that matter.  Know why there isnt so much smacktalking toward Allegheny?  Respect.  Would much rather beat a respected opponent.

Wooster?  Respect.  Howd they climb to the top? Pounding the rock and playing rock solid defense.

OWU and the respect issue gets a little cloudy due to some issues with a certain All Decade NCAC defensive tackle and some kickoff shenanigans in the late 80's, but know this, when it comes right down to it, would still rather play a respected opponent, win or lose, than beat an opponent without respect.

Maybe the gamuts just different for Wabash than it was for Witt entering the NCAC.  Right, the 99 Witt team was a great team.  Certainly wasnt greater than any team Witt has ever faced or fielded.  Maybe thats the best team that Wabash has ever faced, dont know.  Do know this, Gheny out and out won the national championship shortly after Witt joined the league....  Maybe that rings why the Tigers respect Gators.  Guarantee this, dont like them Gators. But gotta respect em.

Leave it at this:  Witt has no returning defensive line starters, but there is a nice triangle returning in the middle of the defense to lead and communicate.  And theres this little school just East of Traflagar and North of Columbus in Indiana that has a running back with beef.  Is that game before or after the run in with the Beef in Illinois?

PS
The earliest of that QB list mentioned earlier, was the pit of the tree that made the bat thats been known to smack a Bash.... all in the house that Bill built.

Think a Hanover guy coined the term the other day at breakfast as chuck and duck...  Miss the days of bump and grind...  Even if a certain Witt OLB thought they should change their names to duck and cover....

See that, that spells Adidas

Macleod,

Are you a philosophy professor?  I just get this image of you seated in a swiveling chair, looking up on a 45 degree angle, but not focusing on anything.  Just thinking yourself into a frenzy at a barely audible level on the strength of an intelligence that is way above that of even a very intelligent portion of the population.   I can never figure out what in the name of Golly Moses you are trying to say, but I gotta love the fact that in spite of all your thoughtfulness, you still love college football at its purest.

Alright, that's like five posts and it's not even noon.  I need to find something to do.

Game east of Traflagar and north of Columbus is the first game.  And the RB to whom you refer will not exceed 50 yards.  And Trafalgar spelled backwards is:  Ragalfart.

Do not agree with statements to the effect that Wabash does not respect NCAC opponents.  I believe Wabash has a good deal of respect for Woo, Gheny, and OWU.  Witt - as a group - is perceived by Wabash as never showing Wabash respect ... and that is perhaps reflected back in our comments ... However, Wabash has a great deal of respect for their team, their coaches, and their play.  Now ... as to DePauw .....

wally_wabash

MacLoed....

Get yourself some Wabash gear and wander around Edwards-Mauer on gameday this October.  Just sit back and wait and listen...it won't take long before you figure out why there's not a lot of respect being given to Witt from C'ville.  Twice I've been to Springfield for football games and twice it's been a pretty unpleasant experience (excepting of course the moment when Mark Server's field goal went through the uprights in OT in '02 which was a top five Wabash football moment for me).  I've been to most of the rest of the stadiums in the NCAC and E-M is the one I dislike visiting the most.
