There's a lot of that. I would say that's not really along the same lines of being the head coach of football and baseball. :)

Kenyon has posted its recruit class for 06, although they still have much to prove, coach Stanley has them on the right track! Of the new group M.Sancez, has some great athletic skills, much like his brother. With only 5 seniors gone from 05, the Lords could match last years mark. I do however understand, the Scots and Gators will rebound from 05 and be tough games to win in 06! Kenyon should have one of its largest squads this season, giving them a better chance to compete in the always tough NCAC!

With 7 of them QBs they ought to have some athletes!

I would be intrested in knowing how often does a kid look at DePauw and Wabash when being recruited?  Or is it just one or the other?

benbraddock

I think a lot of people at least look at both.  I went to DePauw but got recruited and looked at both.  I wasn't really interested in Wabash though for a variety of reasons, not just the no females thing.

smedindy

They are looking for a lot of the same kids, well, males, so it's a pretty big rivalry in recruiting.

I've been away, so this comment is regarding the discussion on Witt slipping and such the last few seasons.

Truth be told, the Tigers have slipped.  But, considering where they were, a "slipping" of sorts was somewhat expected.  Its all cyclical.  Witt will be back sooner than later.  Even with the recent poor years, they have still been in the conference race till late in the season.

I feel the problem is a lack of consistency.  It's great that Fincham is still there and looks as though he will be for a long while.  If he goes, the program will really be in trouble.  However, the coordinator caurosel (sp?) has been a problem.  When guys have to constantly learn new offenses and defenses, the wins will start to erode.

Also, I still find it funny that the almighty Wabash faithful feel like the the Witt fans just suddenly decided to disrespect them.  As the saying goes, respect is earned, not given.  There was no animosity in the 2 years before the 2002 game on the side of the Witt faithful.  The disrespect was returned to the Wabash fans for their behavior in that game.  If you think going to an opposition stadium and having your "male cheerleaders" run up and down the track ringing OUR bell, and talking smack to OUR players is showing respect, then you are all crazy.  The Wabash players themselves were very respectful, but when you fans came running on the field and yelling in the faces of our players, you crossed the line.

You can come up with any excuse you want.  You can see we started it or it didn't happen or whatever.  But thats the truth, and thats the reason for the animosity.  Its hard to respect people that act that way.

wally_wabash

The truth is that Witt hasn't respected Wabash from day one...it's not like all of a sudden Witt stopped respecting Wabash.  It started from the very first game Wabash ever played in the NCAC against Witt, which was one of the most unsportsmanlike games I've seen in D-III.

And you can't talk about '02 and leave out how inappropriate the Witt fans acted toward Wabash fans.  You try to play this spin at least once every year and I'm NEVER going to let you get away with it.  Everything escalated out of control that day and the finger points both ways.  Witt fans who voluntarily moved over into the visitors section taunting and threatening Wabash fans, the activity from the students on the track...all of it should have been handled by Wittenberg security and exactly none of it was.  Wittenberg's crowd (not just the student body, it was a melting pot of fans who behaved badly) was NOT innocent and you're a damn fool if you think otherwise.

You want my opinion?  I think Witt fans were embarassed for over three quarters by getting way outcheered (it wasn't even close) by a small section of visiting students and fans at their own homecoming.  Couple that with having to watch their team get beat (which hadn't happened for years at Witt), and the easiest reaction was anger.  Anger from one side begat anger from the other, and before long it was out of control.

It may have started in '02 for Witt, but it started in '00 for Wabash.  The two schools don't like each other...it's called a rivalry. Instead of trying to make excuses for it, we should embrace it.  Rivalries are a good thing.

Lancer98,

With regards to your Wabash/DePauw recruiting question, we have seen a major change over the Creighton years.  Yes, without question, there are some of the same players recruited by both schools.  Because of the history, I think a lot of kids know that if they look at one, they should look at the other.  That is a result of the rivalry.  However, over the last 4-5 years, you would be surprised by how many Wabash players were never on DPU's radar.  I have said this before, I think Wabash goes after a lot of kids that may not be "D3 kids" (higher quality) where DPU still does.  Years ago, most would choose between Wabash and DePauw.  Nowadays, that is much less common.  Head to head, we have crushed them the last 4 years - NO DOUBT.  Plus, the kids that are looking at both schools, we win many more then we lose.  Even though we did, we really haven't lost DICK.   ;D  That is just too easy...

Oldguy - how "old" are those remarks & the entire discussion.  Hey, that one Lackey kid (LB) is a stud from what I hear...no joke.

Wally,

The spinning goes both ways.  I'm not saying Witt fans were totally innocent.  I'm just sick of hearing about how horrible Witt fans treat visitors from Wabash, and how us neanderthal Witt fans show no respect.  I haven't heard any complaints from any other fans.

I didn't bring it up, a Bash fan did.  You say that you won't let ME get away with it, but I won't let YOU GUYS get away with it either.  Just see it both ways, not with the Lil Giant blinders.

Also, I do embrace the rivalry.  It makes the games and season much more fun.  Not to mention our discussions on this board.  I hope the Witt-Gheny rivalry gets reved up again like it once was.

Check your history on that one...I believe we got one on ya there

I think he was referring to crushing you guys in the recruiting department and not the scoreboard.

Sorry, for all the banter about who started what, who rang whos bell and yaddayadda, not of the opinion that Witt-Wabash is a true rivalry.

Theres a difference between feuding and warring.  Warrings done for profit and feuding from sheer disdain.  A rivalry is about disdian, sometimes respect sometimes not.

Am of the opinion that Wabash views the Witt series as warring, seeking to profit or reap the rewards of a fabrication for conference or national prize.

Tigers, treat the series as just that, a battle for profit.  Dont get pulled too far in to the hearts and minds reverse psychology employed.
