Less than two weeks left until media day...anybody else want to take a stab at a doing some NCAC preseason picks??

I'm revising my earlier analysis:

1) Oberlin -- The team finds out that its second-string tailback knew a guy who once heard of a man who lived near Knute Rockne. That inspiration leads the Yeomen to their first conference title.

2) Kenyon -- The Lords have a record seven freshman turn out for football camp. They ride that success into a Pool C bid to the playoffs, where they lose to Mount Union in OT.

3) Denison -- The Big Red sweeps its home-game schedule because teams can't figure out where the heck Granville is. The new Denison stadium is renamed Fort Forfeit.

4) Wooster -- Tony Sutton returns to school after finding out that he never passed Psych 101. The Scots solidly return to the mix.

5) Wittenberg -- Witt gets an edge at home as the school chooses to blast "Eye of the Tiger" through the speakers at every opportunity. Members of Survivor sign autographs at homecoming.

6) Wabash -- In an effort to broaden the school's horizons, Coach C. chooses only to play "girly men." The Lady Giants still manage a .500 season.

7) Allegheny -- Gheny, unaccustomed to playing on solid ground, is nostalgic for its beloved swamp.

8 ) Hiram -- At 2-8 and in eighth place, it's their best season ever!

9) Earlham -- Despite big wins at Franklin, Hanover and Anderson, the team's record suffers after the coaches realize they're not in the HCAC.

10) Wesleyan -- The Battling Bishops fail to find motivation even after H's opening day speech that encourages the team to "suck less."

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

wabashcpa:  You really think Denison will go 1-6 in the conference?....Let's be real.  I'm predicting at least 5-2 in the conference and possibly 8-2 or 7-3 overall.  I see their possible conference losses coming from Allegheny and your Wabash Lil' Giants.  Don't expect blow outs though--both contests will be hard fought battles and they are at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium so who knows.  That's why they play the game.

I see Denison at 4-3, losing to 'Gheny, OWU and Wabash. I still have them at 6th, because I can see my 3-6 picks all being 4-3.

I just read Denison's preview from their web page.  Good reading.  It might be the only preview in the country that uses the word "tizzy" so I suggest you check it out.

Denison has quite a bit coming back, but lost a three-year starter at qb and their best receiving target.  That would make me a little nervous.

7 or more wins seems a bit much.  I can't see Denison beating Allegheny, OWU, or Wabash (even at home).  Two other potential stumbling blocks are going to be Kenyon (nice that this game is at home, not nice that Kenyon is riding a pretty big rush right now) and the finale at Earlham (Rummell, at home, on senior day...this kid can flat out play).  I can see Earlham gutting out a 59-54 win there.  I think anything better than 4-3 in conference would be a pretty monumental achievement for Denison.  I projected Denison at 3-7, but those teams in the middle are so close that Denison could just as easily go 6-4.  It will be fun to watch this battle for bragging rights amongst our teams on the rise.

Go Big Red,

That is the basis of my prediction.  No Cappetto or Roe = problems scoring.  Teams will stack the line until whoever is behind center can prove to be effective.

I love the talk about the lesser teams.  But, uh...did I fall into the twilight zone here?

Darkside-D. Until you have another good season you, are simply,  a good program trying to rebound.  The loss to Kenyon was not a mirage, it happened and many a weakness were forund in the Woo D. You can't continue to live in the past, Wooster is average, until they prove themselves again!

Who's living in the past Herald?  I'm talking about previous posts on here.  Take a look at WCLegacy 's post.  Obe winning it all.  I realize it was joke, and I thought I'd join in.  Sorry.  Take a look at wabashcpa's post.  Who woulda thought a Basher would pick Woo to win it all??  Again, that I took to be a joke. Like you said, Woo is an average team until they prove they are still competitive for the top spot.  However, that goes to Kenyon too.  Yeah, they had a good season last year.  Their sched was weak, in my opinion that I won't go into (Actually I already have if you look at post #4520).  Until Kenyon wins on a regular basis, they are still sub- average.  Until they play the top teams of Witt, Bash, and dare I say, beat Woo on a regular basis, again, sub- average.

Herald,

Not to make excuses but Woo was without their starting QB and there is no comparison between Schafer and his backup.  NONE!!!  I know Schafer can't wait to play in that game this year !! See you then and if Woo gets the chance ...........

scotty

medicine man, i agree wholeheartedly on the dropoff...that is why i would prefer that he not take such a beating in the "spread"...he seems to take the full shots of the defense as he runs upright...btw, anyone idea who would be the #2 qb ...

herald, my prediction is that Wooster will score between 21 and 84 points against the Lords...

Scotty,

Agreed, I am so nervous with the spread. He also had a concussion last year and played two games with a broken foot. He is very good, and the team did not obviously have much confidence without him, not only his ability but leadership is also missed. I know they got a QB from Johnstown and another one- cannot remember where he is from. Just pray Justin and all the others stay healthy this year. 31 seniors, 20 of 22 starters returning. Others are not giving us much credit, but I believe in them. They want it badly!. I would rather be the underdog !

scotty

medicine man, 20 out of 22 is very encouraging...what 2 graduated...i believe the offensive scheme needs to get back to a more traditional mode...Wooster was too predictable last year out of the spread...

Wow, it is great to see that a Lords fan can get  so much reaction from the mighty Scots. Kenyon not only has  to win one better this year, they have to keep the momentum rolling. Wooster, has a atheletic program from men to women, they compete well in almost every sport. Kenyon has a national swimming  dynasty, and fields other teams, but for the most part at Kenyon sports are looked down upon. So when Kenyon can beat Wooster in one of the big three male sports, it is a major  deal.  Wooster, Witt, Wabash, reload every year, Kenyon just hopes to be able to compete, with the  big five. But when you laugh, degrade, and do the other things, that I witness on a yearly basis, it sure feels good to  to beat one of the big dogs. And the chant at Kenyon will remain the same, you beat us on the field, but next year after graduation, you will work for us!
