WOW- I really would have thought with all the "superior academics" at Kenyon you could have come up with a better one - "you will work for us......"  We used that in HIGH  SCHOOL  forty years ago.

Herald,

Thats a great chant.  Sounds kinda like one Woo does...only, woo's has a little bit of rhythm with it, as in it actually ryhmes.  Of course, we don't like to talk about that one, seeing as how if we are using it...we are losing.  But hey, if it helps ya sleep at night.

After all this talk, I might actually make the trip to Gambier to watch Wooster wipe the floor with the Lords on Nov. 11.

WOO-FANS, Its good to see you haven,t lost your personality,I didn't attend Kenyon, that is the student body chant. I went to a state school, and if you didn't  play well you sat on the bench. And if you really screwed up, you packed your bags because you were there on a ride. You were there to play football, education was something you did on the off-season. I have four family members who are graduates of Wooster. I mean no ill feelings, but if you guys really payed attention, you might give coach Stanley some credit. I know for a fact the requirements are not the same  for the studnt body, and the jocks. Kenyon dosen,t let people in, you either make the grade or you go elsewhere, my Love for Kenyon comes from going to games with my prof father, who has two brothers who graduated. Wooster wanted me to come but, D2 payed the way and gave my fathers wallet a break. I would have enjoyed the hell out of going to Wooster, or any of the NCAC, except Oberlin!

Take a look at wabashcpa's post.  Who woulda thought a Basher would pick Woo to win it all??  Again, that I took to be a joke.

Lot of faith in your former 'mates, huh?  All I saw was some good players and a bunch of experience returning.  Usually a good recipe for a successful season.  A lot of the usual suspects lost some key ingredients that will hurt their chances.  Other teams that return a lot of starters from last year (Denison, Earlham, Oberlin) just aren't there yet.  It isnt that I think Wooster is that great.  I just think you will end up the best of a fair to middling lot.  If Wabash whoops up on the Scots, then heck yeah, the joke's on me.

The times are changing. Check a couple of ACT scores on Kenyon's roster now- fact---below 20. I don't really care , lots of schools do it but I do dislike Kenyon playing that card all the time, it is not true anymore. ( Two major players - and how would I know?   They also applied at other schools......- not Woo- but people do have connections to other schools)

wabashcpa,

I never said I don't have faith in my former mates.  I have all the faith in their abilities.  I have said before on here that they will surprise all those would doubt them this year.  They have a ton of talent.  I simply meant what I said, I figured that if a Basher picks Woo to win it all, that Basher must be joking in their predictions.  Its a pretty well known fact that Bashers won't lose a game going into a season.  'Course, there is no problem in thinking that way.

I'm too lazy to go back and look but I'm fairly certain one Wabash poster picked Witt to win the NCAC this year.

Darkside,

Sorry if I misinterpreted your comment.  While I hope we win every game this season, I think we have a few questions that need to be answered, and that Wooster returns too many good players not to be considered a favorite.  I love the scarlet and white, but my glasses aren't necessarily that color.

Wabash came off a disappointing season in 2004 to run the table last year, and Wooster may be in a similar position this year.  We'll see how hungry they are, because I know Wabash would love nothing more than another conference championship (well, that and a Bell victory).

Medicine Man, I have always thought that Kenyon considers itself an Ivy league school in Ohio. That is where that country club mentality comes from. I have been sold a bill of goods, but I will get to the bottom of this topic! But back to Football, and out of the Admissions office. My mistake for bringing up a sour subject among NCAC foes. Wooster can easily turn it around, I feel if there is a problem, it will be regaining there swagger. They have talent, and I  have watched some of the younger guys play in high school. Northeast Ohio has much talent, but with JCU,BW, Case,Mount,Woo etc. it is tough to snag players from my area. I hope you are wrong about the outcome in November, I think it could be a tight game, even with the payback factor!

ScotsFan

Personally, I don't really see that much of a disparity in academic standards between any of the schools in the NCAC.  After all, weren't high academic standards one of the primary focuses when the NCAC was formed?

ScotsFan

As far as predictions for the conference go, I see Wabash as the team to beat.    I think Wooster could be in the mix as well.  I think the key for the Scots will be how they fare in their pre-conference schedule.  The season opener with JCU will tell us a lot about where Wooster is and whether or not they are ready to challenge for the NCAC.  If Wooster were to win that game, the confidence gained from a win like that could be enough to propel them to a conference championship.  If they were to get blown out, the reverse could also be said.

This is a good point herald.  A win over JCU would go a long way in bringing back the swagger that Wooster seemed to lose as the season wore on last year.  The talent is there for the Scots to win another championship.  I just question wheter the mindset is there.  A lot of questions will be answered on Sept. 2nd at the Papp.

Witt has shown us that you can go ahead and get completely demolished in that first game and still piece together a respectable conference season.  I wouldn't hang your whole season on a week 1 non-conference game.  Wooster's make it or break it game of the season will be their conference opener vs. Witt.  Win there and the Scots are in the driver's seat.  Lose, and you're pretty much out of the race before you even get to October.

Serious question for Woo folks (not trying to be a smart a$$):  knowing that Bash dominated the game last year, on your field, at your homecoming, how do you make up that difference?  Even with the loss of Russ Harbaugh at QB - I see the Bash WR corps with the widest talent advantage over the Woo DBs.  Who stops these guys (in the NCAC) & how?  Going back to Clifton and Short - size has really been an advantage against the Scots 5'9 DBs.

- Michael Russell, 6'2 Jr. - burner NCAC sprint champion '05, man among boys this season
- Geoff Walker, Sr. - great hands, great routes, great YAC - probably most exciting to watch
- Bart Banach, 6'2 Jr. - burner NCAC sprint champion '06, injuries held him back last year
- Gabe Guererro, 6'2 - scary talent since his Frosh year, injuries also held him back last year
- Ray Green - another deep threat, another burner, 3-year starting junior

I'd like to know how this group would compare nationally, not just the conference?  Also, it is hard to even rank these guys individually... ???

Huff is the biggest question mark for the Little Giants.  Let's not forget that this will be his 4th year in the program and has had some starts over Harbaugh earlier in his career.  He has all of the physical tools (great athlete) and his legs give him an added dimension.  In this system he should flourish.  I hope he is ready to step up and lead.  Personally, I think he is.

DarksideD - I know I won't let this rest (since your ho-hum comments on him last year), but any more comments on Pynenberg?  Apparently D3football.com, Street & Smiths, Don Hansen, USA Today, and Lindy's feel differently about him then you do?  How good is Adi Pynenberg in the middle of the Bash D?  His national pub is well deserved.
