Oh ya, the kicking game still has some issues

*Gasp!*  Yeah, we've never exactly been a FG threat.  I do love the straight on kickers though...is Olmy the kicker coach?

For a long time after the advent of soccer-style kicking, straight-on kicking was called conventional style when there was no longer anything conventional about it. I still prefer to call it conventional - sounds more elegant than straight-on.

It was HOT at the Wooster / Baldwin Wallace scrimmage on Sat, with temps in the 88-91 range. Wooster won the scrimmage with an interception run back for a touch down. The Scots first string offense looked sharp against BW's first defense, With the Scots first defense more then holding its own against BW's first offensive unit. All and in I thought the Scots looked sharp, I am looking forward to seeing how this performance carries over Sat. against John Carroll..

The digits weren't so chilly, now were they?   :P

Oh ya, the kicking game still has some issues - there were a couple of ugly FG segments marked with inconsistency.  However, the kickoffs were excellent and very deep and high - Oehler handled most of those - he's a straight on guy that has a strong leg.

Where's Pliske when we need him!?!

i am sure some of the wabash faithful will be at the wabash/wheaton scrimmage this saturday. since many of us (read: me) can't make it i would appreciate your observations on this wheaton team. should be a great measuring stick as usual for both sides. I am pretty sure i know some of the returning stars on the wabash team and would like particular information on the following from your side:

sophomore db #12 peter iitersagen-1st team all cciw as a frosh. he is the best we have and top in cciw so should be a good test for us vs a veteran receiver group.

DE #90 studebaker and #52 Andrew- very athletic and all conference caliber-can they get to the qb?

qb's #15 chupp-which one will show up 2004 chupp or 2005?

#1 Ullrich qb-transfer from NIU. is he any good?

#17 wr chupp-as in qb brother- can run his routes without getting slowed up?

#2 fossum wr-tall kid, can he get off the LOS?

other than that i am interested in how a young OL (w a couple good vets mixed in) fares against a stout group of LB's (with pynenberg) and an always tough run d.

I recognize all this will happen with the starters playing about a half but those are the matchups to watch. you can see how your best/youngest matchup vs ours. I always found it helpful to know who the best guys are so one can measure where your team stands going into the season.

welcome all comments and thoughts next week.

Nice story about a Wittenberg grad:

When Northern Illinois and Ohio State meet Saturday in Ohio Stadium, the Hauser family will be everywhere. Dozens will sit in the stands as fans. Two will be on the sidelines as coaches.

And one, family members say, will be watching from above.

I don't have any specific information about the scrimmage (since I was unable to attend), but from what I have been told, look for a lot of freshmen to possibly be starting (or at least getting significant playing time) for the Tigers this year...

Witt scrimmage remarks...not a lot of detail but some info from a Witt parent...

Huffman (the Frosh) seems to have the QB job but seemed to struggle at times in the scrimmage.  Lance Phillips (LB) is back from the ACL and was a beast, flying all over the field with lots of emotion.  Apparently, he clearly stood out.  Murray had some good runs but nothing spectacular.  It sounds like he will have to carry a huge load for the O, especially early.

All in all, it sounded as if Witt has a lot of work to do before their opener and they are running out of time.  He wasn't sure how good Mukingum was either so it was tough to gauge.

Here's a classic post from a Franklin supporter commenting on the 9/9 Wabash/Franklin game...this was on the HCAC page...entertaining to say the least...

VictoryBell57 said:  "i have not heard how the scrimmage went. i don't know. wabash is a bit cocky for a bunch of guys from an all guys school. let's get serious here, ya'll all bus dem girls for the weekend and then git your groove on. what god fearing man in his right mind would allow his daughter to be bused on to an all male campus to be ham raped by a bunch of girly men who like to yell "wabash always fights, wabash always fights." get real, your school has problems. the administration probably shouldn't condone busing in concubines on the weekends or letting your student section represent the little giants with "hard hat football" and whatever other bs you guys can come up with at a male cheer practice thursday night. don't tell me you went to wabash because of the stellar education. if that were the case you would have went to notre dame. you went to wabash because you didn't get into depauw (which has girls mind you) and you were a dork in high school and other guys with issues conversing with the opposite go to wabash. it's easier to talk to a bused in girl you just fed 95 jellow shots to than on a normal basis.

my prediciton: FC 35
                       Lil dorks 17

you want to see hard hat football? wait until hartsfield and gorrell run wild up your backside."

wally_wabash

You would think that FC should get by OWU before they start running that kind of smack at Wabash.

16, do you want to bring the "35-17" sign to Franklin or should I?  :)

35 is the over/under on Franklin for points for the entire season.

Victory Bell .... "... you would have went..."?  "would have went"?  You must be one of them there English majors at Franklin.

At the end of week 2 for the Cubbies ... 0 for the world against the NCAC.

And OWU ... don't hurt Gorrell so bad that we don't get a shot at him.
