sorry for my being absent.  I know you all missed me...I've moved to NC (no live scots...no bucks  :-[ )  And have been busy with my new job.

JCU loses..

They had a shot to win the game, but with the new rules on the clock, JCU ran outta time on their final drive.  Horrible clock management.  Good job by JCU in coming back.  Final score 22-30 in favor of the Scotties.

Congrats to the Scots - you handled your OAC opponent a little better than a certain team from Springfield did.

Scotty,

To be honest, I am unsure.  I was out of the house for the first half, and when I did get in,  I couldn't get the Windows version of the download to work.  I had to download the quicktime, and it was halfway through the fourth quarter before I could actually listen.  Up til then I just kinda skimmed the live stats.  The live Stat line doesn't have him listed as having a reception.

I did notice that Sheppard didn't have any listings on the stat line.  What happened to him?

also, a win is a win...

Beyond that, I am a lil worried about how the second half played out.  The scots only put up 6 points, and allowed all of the Streakers 22 points.  Only time will tell how good JCU is, but that kinda worries me.  Granted it is the first game, and there are some new guys getting used to the system at game speed, but if JCU turns out to be an average team this year in the OAC, Woo could be in trouble.  Defense needs to be Lights Out!!  It doesn't matter if back ups are being put in the game or not ( I doubt they were in there with JCU driving and only down by 8, having converted a two pt. conversion on the previous score).

Good job holding them off though.  There is still a long road ahead for the Scotties to make a run at conference.  1-0 is a good way to begin.

Please excuse me as I devise a way to watch the Buckeyes this afternoon.  Who the heck wants to watch UNC and Rutgers????

i believe Shepherd has a back "issue"...

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

Capital 57, Wittenberg 7? Ought one thus conclude that Wittenberg has "de-emphasized" football?

Merely wondering ....

Warren Thompson

... or does this possibly mean that Capital has "re-emphasized" football?

At any rate, it seems that the Tigers of old, who took on the likes of Bucknell and Delaware in the the late 60s or so, have fallen on hard times.

Probably a bit of both.  I recall that not that many years ago on this board (ok - maybe a few) the thought of losing to "Crapital" was ludicrous.

any info on how wabash looked during the scrimmage?  They have pictures up on the website and captions sound like they looked pretty good but wondering if anybody was there with first hand info.

WARNING--

OAC/ Mount Union person here--attended the Wooster/ JCU game today (my daughter is in the Scots band).  Congrats to Wooster for a good game--thought JCU looked pretty weak--their first QB was awful.  Wooster held tough in the second half against a much better QB--there were a couple of end zone stands that were great for three plays and then kind of fell apart, but the potential seemed to be there for some really tough D.

Had a nice conversation on the sidelines with #13's mom--she was getting pretty nervous near the end.  But you guys held it together for her!

From what I saw today, I think that JCU will fall somewhere in the middle to the bottom of the OAC this year--we'll have to wait and see.  Their O line was slow, slow, slow. And I'm not sure how their center could snap the ball past his belly.

On a brighter note, the Wooster band was great.  I loved how the bagpipes piped the team down the hill at the start of the game.  And piping in a circle around the team after the game was pretty cool too.  Nice to see some traditions continue.  They had a really good halftime show and they played really interesting music--Everything from Offenbach's "Can-Can" from the opera "Orpheus in the Underworld" (part of the halftime show) to "Back in Black" by AC/DC (in the stands)--overall quite an impressive range of music--also, as a little side note their band/pipers has over 180 members--not bad for a school of about 1800.  How many DIII schools have bands that are bigger than their football teams?
Reloading--Again, and again, and again....

I'd be shocked if JCU finishes with a winning record this year.  They'll get drilled by MUC, Cap and ONU.  Otterbein will be a long shot with Marietta a toss up.

On the Witt subject, what in the world has happen in Springfield???  Is was just a few years ago when I hated to see Witt in the playoffs becuase you knew it was going to be a real battle.  Not anymore.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Witt getting waxed yet again by Capital brings up an interesting point.

Capital destroyed them last year, then the Tigers regrouped slightly and were in the NCAC hunt until a close loss at Wabash.  Wabash then goes on to play a very good game with Capital in the playoffs.

Does this show that Witt and the NCAC are that bad, or does it mean that Witt just doesn't show up anymore when they play Capital?  Are they just never ready?  Do they need more practice time?  Is the new attitude just to forget about the non-conference games?  It doesn't seem to make sense to me.
