Spud-er ... Spud-er ... Spud-er

Hey ... maybe DePauw needs a new coach .... Yeah ... that's the ticket.

Trinity scores 2 TD's in the final 5 minutes to beat DePauw 26-15.

Way to close it out, Dannies.

Interesting comment considering how well the Wallies closed out in overtime against Franklin.

Completely different circumstances, Werner.  Wabash came from behind to force OT vs. Franklin.  Closing out a game implies that you've got a lead sometime late in the game. Wabash had no such lead.  Depauw, on the other hand, blew a 4th quarter lead.  Again.

Make sure you bring some of those 5 big game turnovers up to Hollett this November.  Turnovers always get the crowd pumped up.

Has DPU ever beaten Trinity since they have been in the SCAC...honest question?

Regarding Wabash...how about a lot of Bash fans worrying about Huff at QB (preseason) and not worrying about the Bash D???  NOW...after 3 games we are saying Huff is the NCAC POY candidate and we are all concerned about the Hard Hat D.  As long as we get better each week.  Great to see Kraft coming on at OLB.  Also, note that Adi Pynenberg layed out the 3rd quarter after the personal foul penalty (Coach Creighton's policy = sit out a quarter).  So, his 10 tackles were in 3 quarters.  For the record, I heard the penalty was bogus and he was blocked in to the guy.

Woo/Witt talk is pretty quiet.  Should be a very interesting game.

wally_wabash

No, they haven't.  DPU is 0-for-forever against Trinity.

I interpret "closing out" to mean that a team was able to make the plays at the end of the game to win a closely contested game.  Neither Wabash nor DePauw was able to do that.  Wabash had a chance to close out the game in OT and didn't do it.  DePauw had chances to close out the game in the fourth quarter and didn't do it.

With all due respect, you don't get medals for coming from behind only to lose at the end.

I didn't think it was a "completely different circumstance".

wally_wabash

You and I have different interpretations as to what "closing out" a game is.  In baseball, the guy called the "closer" doesn't pitch when his team is behind.  His job is to preserve the lead.  The same principle applies to closing out a football game...you have to be ahead.

I'm not crediting Wabash for anything special in the Franklin game.  The LGs got beat.  There's no prize for coming in second in a football game.

I think I have figured out  Werner's confusion.

In Danny speak  it is called "not adequately managing the lead".

At DePauw, this failure to adequately manage is usually followed by a coaching change.

Now the Spudster ... on the other hand ... simply got peeled.

I don't think anyone would have thought OWU would be winless at this point. Plenty of football left to make a run. At Wabash; how does a traditionally tough Bishop "D" give-up 579 yds? Nick Rice had another solid effort with 245 total yds - 101 Rush/144 KR. Coach Creighton did saythe Bishops have a great offense. "It's not a Wing-T...it's the Ohio Wesleyan Wing-T".... No I don't believe many people would have thought the OWU would be winless.

Traditionally a tough team.  Hopefully they can turn it around and get heading in the right direction.

Go Tigers!

Don't get too down about the yardage Wabash gained on OWU.  Wabash is going to pile yards on a lot of teams this year...good defenses or not.

And let's remember, two years ago OWU was sitting at 0-4 and then ripped off five straight and played for a championship on the final weekend of the season.  OWU's playoffs start right now.  Every game from here on out is must win if they're going to even have a shot at the playoffs...and even then, they need Wabash to lose twice.  It's a long shot, but it's not impossible.
