Yes, Wabash has had a punt blocked.  Yes, Wabash has allowed a kickoff return for a TD.  Yes, Wabash's net punting average is horrible.  But lets' keep this in mind before we bury the special teams...Wabash is perfect on extra points this year.  That's a marked improvement over years past.   :)

While I'm definitely going to the Wittenberg-Wooster game tomorrow, I have to admit that the contest I'm really looking forward to is when Capital visits Mount Union.  I try to get out to watch Mount once a year, usually during the playoffs.  But Capital's demolishing of Witt plus their #3 ranking has really peaked my interest.

I HATE Capital, even more than Witt, although this feeling comes from watching their basketball thugs a few years ago.  Never seen their football team, but if Mount Union beats them 700-0 I'd feel no sympathy.  Except for those pushup-doing Mount cheerleaders.

Agree with the comments that Wabash D in general and special teams PERIOD have been stinking up the gym.

Also an hearing the knowledgable commentators here who say it is being worked on and getting better each week.

I saw Franklin and special teams assisted by ineffective defense play lost the game.

I saw Millikin and it was a little better ... baby steps ... but still ... an O stumble and we would have been in deep ka ka.

Against OWU ... It improved again but we need large improvements ... not baby steps ... to put down Witt, Woo, Gheny.  Our O will be there but we can't count on Arena League type scoring.  D has to show up and special teams ... what can you say.

On the good news front ... I believe we have very fine coaching to accomplish this result anfd the athletes are there ... I look forward to Earlham to the new beginning of giant steps toward the D producing.

On another subject ... the Grand Rapids Press just dynamited the MIAA with an article in today's sports section:  "Oldie, but not a goodie".  The article highlights items such as MIAA winless since 1996 in playoffs and nonconference record through 3 games as 5-18 (0-7 last week).  It concludes:  "The MIAA is in a no-win situation when trying to play on an even Division III football playing field.  And that doesn't bode well for the league's football future, which, given all of its circumstances, will likely be as unsuccessful outside of league action as its past was and its present."

WOW ... want to recruit Michigan? ... come on up.  After articles of support such as that, it should be feeding time at the zoo.

As far as Michigan goes, let's face it.  The economy in that state has been in shambles for quite some time.  There probably are lot of kids who are looking to get the heck out of there if their family hadn't moved already.

Ohio is not a lot better but living in Columbus it does seem to be a little better bit by bit or as Wabco puts it, we're taking "baby steps".

Sorry to step off the path for a minute.  Just a though on why MIAA football may be struggling a bit as far as recruting goes.  Michigan as a whole better hope Lloyd can come through this year against OSU or football in that state is going to get really ugly. Unfortunetly, I think Lloyd will be out of luck again this year with having to come to the 'Shoe and yes Troy Smith is still at QB...sorry Llyod.

Now back to football and D3......

A final word in defense of the MIAA non-conference woes this season:

As I say on the MIAA board the same Alma team that lost to Wittenberg by 18 was one goal line stand offside call away from beating Cornell in their opener, Abion, Hope and Olivet lost to ranked teams, Tri-State's had 3 close losses. Adrian was taken to overtime its' last game before losing.

They may be taking a lot of non-conference losses, but in most cases, it's not like they've been chopped liver.

I now return to my regularly scheduled board-posting. (ba dumm bumm).

If I'm remember right, I think they've gone up in price -- not that it matters for me, I already spend $600+ to get me and my fiancee to the game. My most expensive football game of the year....and always worth every penny.  ;D

2.7 seconds. An average football player may need more time to score; a great one finds a way. I've seen greatness happen.

aueagle: I won't be at the game so you will have to cheer for me. Just a sidenote, when OWU had a big lead against Kenyon last year the d-coordinator refused to sub on defense. Is there something about Kenyon he doesn't like?

EastCoastStag: Only because you asked, Jr. is not with the team and hasn't been since his diagnosis. He continues to run and lift with the emphasis being put on his abs and hamstrings. I have a friend who is a professional trainer and he is working with him on his diet and workout regiment. Jr. says he will be on the field next year and 3 more years of eligibility is definitely on his mind. I would have preferrred he be on OWU's sidelines but for some reason he has chosen not to. We have gone to other games together and he educates me on the different defensive looks and their purposes. He has truly become a student of the game this year. Thanks for asking, I hope I didn't get too winded but it is therapeutic for me.

Thanks Scotty for the email.

In reading the recent posts I found it amazing the optimism some of you posters have about OWU's chances. Kenyon will be another measuring stick for them. The game of the week is definitely Witt vs. Wooster. I predict the winner of this game will play Wabash for the conference championship. I wish I could be at Wooster today. I love their atmosphere!

Earlham doesn't have a pressbox? Wabash's radio broadcast is coming from field level. Awesome. You can hear the wind across the microphones.

Wabash scores again. The defense has really turned up the heat. Wow. Another INT for the Hard Hat D. This time at the 3 yard line. Good play by Peterman.

Wabash 21
Earlham 0    2nd

TDs today by Keffer, Huff and (i think) Russell.

Earlham does have a pressbox....a very cramped one infested with yellow jackets.

Often though, especially on nice days, the radio broadcasts are done from outdoor platforms atop the bleachers where coaches usually would be situated. Not sure if there's a problem with those, but a broadcast from the field is certainly something different.

But, help is on the way, supposedly. Earlham has plans to build new bleachers, a new press box and new locker rooms......I thought work was to begin this year, but it may be delayed another season.
"There's no energy. What is it with you guys? I don't get it. You win one game against a decent team and then you think you just have to show up to win on the road? Now I know why Bob Knight gets caught on film hitting kids on the chin!"

Here you go, Dad. The link is being a bit bitchy. If so, use the one that says "Old audio server".
