LilGiant - I don't disagree with your comment.  I didn't mean to imply anything else with my post other then their D numbers may be a bit skewed.  Still a good test, no question.  And, whoever wins, still has a great deal of football to be played.

How about these stats?

#1 in the Nation in Passing Efficiency:  Dustin Huff, Wabash
#2 in the Nation in Passing Efficiency:  Chad Rupp, Franklin

His numbers:  Dustin Huff, Wabash Sr. QB 4 games 123 att 82 comp 2 ints 1265 yards 16 TDs 192.7 passer rating

He is also #3 in total offense.

Great...Kenyon RB, Alby Coombs runs rough-shod over the Bishop "D" (4TD's/34 carries/207yds) and is on the Team of the Week!!!

Huff could have had even more Saturday if he wanted it.  It appeared that CC was content to pound the rock, keep his D and Rummell on the sideline, and keep the clock moving.  If Wabash needed to throw more, they certainly could have done so with great success.  Huff completed his last 8 passes Saturday, so he was just getting into a groove when CC shut it down.

CC did what he needed to do:  establish the D and give it the experience it needs as it steadily improves, establish the running game and give it what it needs as it becomes a factor, keep the O sharp .... and then give #2 and #3 teams experience and NOT run the score.

This is good.  It bears fruit when starters become hurt or for next year.

Gheny will provide the next step in the steady effort to get better.  They are a good solid team and will be a worthy opponent.  If 'Bash is on its game, O should shine ... with some testing.  Look for the pass attack to again assert itself.  D should shut them down after initial period of adjustment.  If D permits them to stay up with Wabash O scoring ... D will have seriously regressed.  If D performs as it should ... improvement occurs ..... something that will redound to 'Bash 2 weeks latter for one of the pivital victories.

Mt Union's individual stats seem to be missing from the NCAA's stats.  Otherwise Jorris would be #1.  He has 2 over the minimum number of attempts to be rated.  Nonetheless #2 is none too shabby.

I do think Gheny's stats are a bit skewed but it still will be a test.

Sometimes Homecoming works against the LGs because of all the stuff that goes on with it and they come out flat. Hopefully, that won't be the case!

Since it's been pointed out that Allegheny's defensive numbers have come against not-so-good teams, let's look at Bash:

Franklin gives up 24.0 ppg (Wabash scored 38) - they are 4-0
Millikin allows 26.5 ppg (Bash scored 38) - they are 1-3
OWU allows 38.4 ppg (Bash scored 42) - they are 0-5
Earlham allows 32.8 (Bash scored 48) - they are 2-2

Just trying to even the playing field a bit gentlemen. It's not like the Little Giants have played defensive stalwarts out there.

I think it's pretty clear Wabash's offense and Allegheny's defense are facing their first real tests of the 2006 season. Should be a great game in Crawfordsville.

Now what's wrong with Coombs on the Team of the Weak? I mean team of the Week. The kid is a solid back and would contribute at any of the upper NCAC schools. THe OL has been suffering. Vast majority of those yards were most likely his, ie earned by his running. Everybody knocks the RB from NIU for his performances because they are agains MAC teams. 200 yards is 200 yards. Let's appreciate the publicity. Just because he isn't from Witt, Wabash, or Woo doesn't make him any less deserving. Let's appreciate the fact that he is going to finish with 4500+ yds; 40+ TD's; and a YPC over 4.5 for his career.

Coming from someone who's played on the new artificial turf, astroturf, and natural grass...I must say nothing beats plush natural grass.  The smell alone is worth it.  Yes, the artificial stuff is nice if its been raining for a week, but it just seems wrong.

I truly hope Ohio State doesn't go the way of Michigan (again) and install artificial turf.  It will be a sad, sad day...

Hey, there was nothing wrong with Coombs on the Team of the Week. I think aueagle was chiding his teams "d", as it were.

EastCoastStag: You've entered the "Chid Zone" indeed...I saw Coombs run over & thru the OWU "D" all day. He earned & got every yard; sometimes with 2 or 3 Bishops hanging-on. My diss was aimed at my own...the defense is not what it has been advertised to be. I saw things on Saturday that were disturbing to say the least....Kudos to the Lord RB for his honor.....GO BISHOPS

Speaking of Kenyon...Saturday the Lords will be having perhaps the most appropriate Homecoming in all of football this season.  Kenyon plays their first home game of the year this weekend; the sixth weekend of the season.  Welcome home, Lords.
