As far as the representation in the playoffs, if there is a tie at the top there is a "Big Ten" rule.  The team that has gone the longest without a playoff birth gets the automatic qualifier.

Is this a new rule?  In 1997 there was a three-way tie for first place in the NCAC between Allegheny, Wooster and Wittenberg.  That year Allegheny got the playoff bid despite having just gone to the playoffs the year before.

That was before the expansion of the conference.  Some by-laws were changed at that time.

Li'l Giant,

Here are a couple of photos that I found that gives you a sense of McWoo:

Oh hells yeah! Why would you get rid of that mascot? Just give McWoo a facelift.

When I get home I'll find the pic of our old "mascot". *shudder*

I was going to do the chant before I posted the picture.

We know what Wally Wabash, the Mascot looks like.

But what would a mascot of wally_wabash look like? Hmmmmm.....

.

Either that, or you have an idea for a Halloween costume.  :D

PRICELESS!!

I personally like the new Woo mascot.  Still, it is said to see a classic go away.  I know the picture Seinfeld posted was either from the 20s or 30s, and the the suit being retired stunk to high heaven.  I can't help but wonder if both pictures are of the same suit.

Maybe the school will let this guy do what I begged to do my four years at woo...carry the sword down the hill!  I never understood why the coaches wouldn't let me ???  ::)

They were afraid the guy in front of you would end up like poor Vinny Del Negro here:

Did someone say people go to Kenyon to develop life skills? Or did the purple haze coming from Oberlin cloud my hearing. WOW.... that person must be some sort of diehard Kenyon poster... or have a jaded view of the world.
I have a liberal arts degree (fortunately with the right concentrations), but overall... getting the full "lib arts" experience is completely overrated. There are so few jobs right out of college that require deep thought... great you can analzye shakespeare to death while stoned. Great, meet a deadline and don't embarass yourself with a client. It is an english school. That is what it does... it produces english majors. Unless someone wants to be an author or write the opinion section of their hometown paper, I'd start the search for a school heavy in the real life skills somewhere else. Not to deny it is a great school. You can get an excellent education there in many things from history to political science to economics to even the sciences now (recently). But the vast majority of kids going there right now.... want-to-be hippies who are wealthy but feel guilty about their wealth and try to hide it by wearing ratty clothes and driving 1980's Volvo's.... but when they go back to their penthouse apartments in NYC, they put on their most expensive clothes and drop 2 grand on dinner before jetting off to Club Med with Mommy and Daddy. They are english majors because they don't need life skills. Yes, there are a few kids who join think-tanks, go to legit grad schools for econ, math; a few law schoolers; and a few med schoolers; you may get an Ibanker every 3 years or so... but the vast majority.... go back and live on mommy and daddy's buck. For those kids who realize that their ability to understand midevil russian literature won't get them a job.... then, they must go back to Bschool or something of that nature. This will all change as the campus undergoes the reconstruction project and works to build up the science, econ, and gov departments. But for the time being, I haven't seen so many sociology majors on one team since Notre Dame.  Not that I am a 'Bash poster or endorser, but at least they have accounting as a major (I believe). Kenyon needs to learn how to combine a liberal arts education with the occasional practical class. Give them 10 years... things will come around. However, I wouldn't pick Witt over Kenyon. Not to agree with Observer, but while education is what you make of it, I'll have to say a kid would do better off at the higher institution. That being said.... I wonder as the program grows, if the standards for the football team will drop.......

All that being said, blame the NCAC for the Kenyon football "issues" regarding records and potential playoffs. The kids are working hard to improve the team (granted the attitude v. the non conference teams was one of arrogant "we shall smit you all" and it got them a 1-2 record). Kenyon would not embarass itself in the playoffs. It would just get matched up against an elite team that would make anyone in the NCAC look silly. For the 'Bash and Witt posters to talk about Kenyon embarassing the conference, it wouldn't happen. We live in a "what have you done for me lately" society. So, until an NCAC team knocks off an OAC team in the playoffs, no one has the right to talk as if they are the "cock of the walk". All in all, I would love to see them go, JUST so they can have the opportunity. If nothing else, it would improve the exposure of the NCAC. If Wabash can't keep leads or put teams away in the 4th... what makes them think they will be able to knock off ONU or Capital?

Unfortunately, this is not the case.  They do offer a couple of courses, taught by a local accountant (not me).

I am very much a distinct minority as a CPA and a Wabash graduate.

And I don't recall anybody stating that we could take Capital or ONU this season.  I think it's pretty apparent at this point that those would be long shots at best.  As the Cubs fans say every July, "Wait 'till next year!".

I took those classes, too. I forget his name. But he had quotes he always put up on the chalkboard that were usually pretty good.

A couple is much better than none, much much better.
And as for my final sentence, should have been better written. Probably why I wasn't a Kenyon english major. Point being- the NCAC needs to perform better out of conference. Do I think 'Bash or Witt would be the better team in the playoffs- yes, heck yes. But once the season is over, I always get behind the representative(s) in the conference(s) I follow and hope for the best. It wouldn't hurt 'Bash or Witt.... and Kenyon would reap the benefits. However, I just don't seem them beating Woo. Another 6-4 year for them..... a nice far cry from the 79-0 beatdown at the hands of Witt in 2002.

79-0 in a game that the first teamers were out in the second quarter, the second teamers got two series, and the threes and fours got the whole second half.

And I'd still take my Wittenberg degree over anything Kenyon could offer.

GO TIGERS!!!

I think you're way wrong about a lib arts education...I have a degree from a liberal arts institution.  I am not a hippie, nor do I sit around stoned whilst reading Shakespeare.  I'm a scientist, doing scientific things on a daily basis in a very scientific industry.  The liberal arts have served me extremely well in a very non lib-arts field.

LG, thanks for the idea, but I've got halloween on lockdown.  This year won't be as good as the Jesus Quintana (from the Big Lebowski) costume from last year, but it'll be pretty sweet.   :)

I was a sociology major at Kenyon but I still know that English should be capitalized.  Your idea about colleges teaching "real life skills" isn't too bright, read "All I Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten" by Robert Fulghum.  You're thinking about "real job skills," which is completely different, and depends on individual criteria.  None of this has anything to do with football anyway, every school in the NCAC is good to very good academically, and the idea that you can't get a great education at any of those schools is flat out wrong.
