Need some syntax here.  Whats a clearing route?  General definition of terms look more like dig smash and mesh.

Bet your referencing drag routes or square ins freeing up posts and second level arrows and post corners.  If so, then its a basic dig setup.  When the TEs the stick, the drag is more the fast realized immediate threat.  Cover the tight or well throw to him.  Want to throw to the others, but will take what you give us.  When the wing or even flank are the stick the dig becomes the second read or checkdown with smashes and other hot routes putting a toe in the bath to see how hot the water is.

Both these digs work well against interior or off the line backer blitzes with the quarterback moving to the receiver away from play action, a dumbed down waggle concept.  Not always so hot when the LBs coming off the edge walked up or even splitting difference with nearest receiver outside the box.

Much of this goes back to discussions on this page about Wabash and the ICAC infecting the NCAC with the chuck and duck and calls for Wooster to at least use an offset fullback.  Not exactly sure what the J Back is in Wabashs offense, but bet it allows them to do both spread and run and shoot.

Many play two to defend the spread and let the olbs clean up the run game, but if they get into that run and shoot, the dbs have to help in the run game or at least the WR screen game and the olbs have to get involved in the secondary issues. 3 or 4 roll to run n shoot and 2 to spread, one of those basics like not blitzing on 3rd and long.

Is Wooster playing to the spread and threatened by the run n shoot?  If possible please explain the clearing route and what else is going on (defenders and recievers.)  Hopefully theyre not playing four at the collegiate level as base coverage.  This isnt the PAC from the late 90s.

best regards,
Tedford

all kidding aside, i think the Wabash folks are ready and able to put a big hurtin' on the Scots..."coach em up" actually means something...

We were ready and able to put a big hurtin' on Franklin.  And Millikin.  And OWU.  And Allegheny.  And Witt.  It just hasn't panned out that way this year.  I'd love to see Wabash put an '02 sized whoopin' on the Scots this Saturday, but I've seen enough now to not expect that.  Wooster is the best defense (statistically) Wabash will have seen so far this year.  Wabash is outscoring opponents 142-40 in the first half this year.  As long as the Scots can withstand the early flurry (no reason to think they won't...everybody but Earlham and Oberlin has this year), they should have a chance.

Scotty,
I agree game in and game out that little clearing route has killed the Scots all year... I would like to see the Scots offense give it a try once in a while, kinda that whats good for the goose is good for the gander theory

funny...i haven't seen a game in person this year...

Actually it is, by that definition am expecting the receiver running the clearing route is not the one getting the ball and according to the seed post the clearing route was the one getting the ball.

Expect its an out or drag route with stuff over top, the stuff over the top being the clearing routes.  Could be wrong.  Out would be smash and drag would be dig.

This wasn't exactly news. I've been trying to get my hands on a copy of that petition.

I just wanted to make a comment about the comments made regarding the comments on uniforms.  I think that was a legitimate conversation for anyone who cares about their schools tradion.  Wabash has a great tradition.  As do many programs in the NCAC (even oberlin and Denison).  For many fans, this tradition is just as important as how the team plays on saturdays.  In high school, my team's colors were black and orange.  My senior year some wise ass (coach) thought it would be great to add silver.  We basically looked like the Ohio State Buckeyes, only substitute orange for the scarlet.  How would wooster fans feel if all of a sudden the team came out wearing scarlet?  Maybe turned in the all black unis in for gold? I know my reaction...I'd puke!

I believe Woo LB Andre Smith is out for the year with a torn calf muscle.  Tough break for the Scots D.  Similar to Wabash OLB Selby's break the week before Sutton & Co. in '04...

DarkSide-D

Smith has a broken non weight bearing bone.  He may return before the end of the season.

Having seen both Wooster and Wabash in person, I have to say that I'm favoring the Little Giants this weekend.  I just feel that Wabash's offense will be a bit too much for the Scots to handle.  If Bash can establish the run early and use their passing game to set it up, the Scots will be in for a long day.  I expect the game to be a dog fight, but in the end the Scots D won't be able to hold Wabash down.  Huff and co. may have a huge day, as long as the run is established early.

I have to agree, that adding black, or any other color, to a uniform is unacceptable.  Tradition is a very important part of any program, and team colors/uniforms are a big part of tradition.  I would have to say that when D1's add colors, it most likely has to do with the nike, addias, or whoever wants to get a new look out on the market.

Clearly, tradition is important. Sports psychology would agree that everything from uniforms to face paint to opposing locker room colors to pipers leading you onto the field to fan support and the dreaded home field advantage, all play a role in the game.

BUT, without a sense of humor and some friendly digging on boards like this, it would all become a place to spout pompous prose and to frequently have to eat crow after an occasional less than stellar performance.

Personally, I don't care if the Woo players wear heels and kilts on Saturday if they beat Wabash.... ;D
