Wally & Co.,

For those of you at the game today, were you disappointed in the atmosphere?  Not for a typical D3 game but for a typical Wabash College game?  I don't know if it...

Agreed on all points.  The game atmosphere had a very distinct "fall break" feel to it from the lack of clubbers, pledge classes, pep band, and students in general.  Where the hell was everybody??  I can't believe that nobody knew that we were playing what amounts to a conference championship game yesterday...it was odd.  Should somebody post flyers around campus reminding the student body that there is a fairly large game coming up at home in two weeks?

The field has been bad from week 1.  A fertilizer issue is what I was told.  It's going to look awesome in HD in two weeks....I don't think anybody is particularly happy about it.

It's true....Wabash Always Fights! And "Did Wabash Win?" Yes, Ralph "Sap" Wilson, yes indeed they did.

Go Allegheny!!!

Tossing out a WAF, making a Sap Wilson reference, and actively rooting against Wittenberg all in the same breath is the #1 way to get yourself some karma.   :)

Well, thanks wally.. :) Woo is always #1 to me, but I try not to let blind allegiance and emotion sway me from calling it as I see it. Besides, you'd have to be pretty cold and heartless not to be touched by Sap Wilson's story......even (as I grit me teeth) if he had played for Witt...... ;)

First of all, who is Sap Wilson?
The game and atmosphere was fine, except for the fact that we lost. A longer drive up to C-ville than I remember.
How can a team look so good in the beginning and then look so bad the second half. We had interceptions,  good defense..... I would have thought with the other quarterback, Reiff, we could have completed more passes.
I'll never talk on the phone when posting again.

We've been asking ourselves that plenty this season.

Sap Wilson was a player for the 1910 Wabash football team...Wilson suffered a head injury in the game vs. St. Louis University and passed the next day.  After Wilson regained consciousness at the team's hotel, he asked "Did Wabash win?"  These words are engraved on Wilson's tombstone in Crawfordsville.

Nike,
Replace Reiff? Who would you have played in his place?? The true freshman?? You can't be insinuating that the offenses struggles were Reiffs fault??

We were at the Wab-Woo game yesterday and yes, the game atmosphere was flat.  Was it the weather?  Us 'older' folks were freezing, but it didn't seem to bother a lot of t-shirt and flip-flp attired students.  Student support? A large number of students seemed to be away for the weekend which is ironic since it was Family Day.  (Had thought that scheduling Family Day for Woo was a fine idea:  add some additional support for the team in the stands on such a pivotal game.)  Hats off to the guys on the sidelines for cheering on their teammates on the field.  Made a difference to the Little Giants and was noted by thw Woo fans as well.

The field is in the worst shape I have seen it in 36 yrs.  Almost hope for a freeze for the Monon Bell game to firm it up.  On the other hand, our O and D adapted well to the conditions.  Say what you want about Mudville, PA, but I gather it gave them a distinct home advantage.

Wabco:  Sorry to catch just a 'passing' glimpse of you yesterday.

Recapping the great weekend of sports..

Bash wins
Cougs win over UCLA
Colts win at Denver
Wolverines win
Cardinals win World Series
Depauw drops another one
USC loses to Oregon State...(laugh)

I didn't expect Oberlin to beat Witt, so I actually got everything I wanted.

My only wish for next weekend:

Gators over Witt.

In response top your post as to how a team can look goof in the first half and not in the second:

I don't think there was a change.  The teams both have accomplished players.  The 10-0 in 3 minutes at the beginning was an fluke.

First:  wind which is always an "X" factor to start ... till real time adjustments to its reality can be made.

Second:  This was parents day at Wabash and for some reason the senior fathers visiting ther lockerroom  caused a time crunch which was not caught so Wabash was way way late in reaching the field ... so late that they entered from a strange place way away from where p[lanned and where their captains were waiting.

Third:  this bred a hurry up preparation routine ... both secopnd and third is the first time I have ever seen this happen to a Creighton schooled team.

Fourth:  Wabash drops the kick off (probable fruits of one and three above).

Fifth:  then an interception right off the bat. ... Woo being a good team takes advantage ... touchdown while field is short and wind is friendly and Wabash systems are not yet to "nominal"

Sixth:  Wabash catches the kickoff but still working out one and two above compounded by five above ... and voila ... a 15 yard punt (see one above)

NOW enter WAF ... enough of this crud ... either show who and what you are or Wabash is really in deep do do ... Hard Hat D puts the Hat on for the first time.

I agree the goal line stand and coming away with giving up only three in the face of all this was the magic elixer to erase the effects of two, three, four, and five.

Now it was back to basic mano - e - mano assisted by coaching.  No negative intended, but I will always take Creighton & Co. in the coaching dept.  They experienced the weather and adjusted the play to what the wind and Woo offered.  Wabash players executed as we have come to expect (truely improving each week on this) ... and he result was what it was.

By the by ... Sunday was no wind and 60+ and sunny.  DePauw loses ... DePauw to Hell ... we Keep the Bell.

wabco

At the game Sat (or rather at the tailgates prior), someone brought up that Rodgers had sued DePauw.  Has anyone seen the suit or knows the facts claimed in the suit?  Does this have impact on other coaches / players now at DePauw?

As we come up on the Danny come-upins 2006 style,  does this have an impact?

DePauw to Hell, we Keep the Bell

Had you been in C'ville Thursday and Friday, you would realize that the field was looking good, compared to the quagmires plaguing the HS fields on Friday night.

I had to laugh, I brought up the band issue and no one responded. A Wabash fan brings it up and it gets responses but only as it pertains to Wabash. Don't get me wrong, I know thats how it works on this Wabash dominated board. I am not faulting Wabash, I appreciate their spirit. I wish OWU had more fans on here. With that said, IMHO when a team is hated like Witt, I see it as a sign of respect because they are proven winners. Obviously they, fans and players, may seem arrogant to some. Sometimes Wabash posters seem arrogant to some on here. I'm not one to suck up to anyone to get karma so sorry Wabash I'm not on board. I hope Witt wins and goes to the playoffs because they beat Wabash who by my own prediction is the second best team in the NCAC. That game to me was the conference title game. Sorry Wooster but if you had beat Witt or Wabash I would have changed my mind. Okay are you ready to bring on the negative karma, another reason I want Witt to win is because I want the team from O-H-I-O to represent. Go Tigers!

Fellas,

Not to sound all Dustin Deneal & all (messing with you DD)...but apparently Wooster came out in Cover 2 on Saturday to start the game which they had not shown in previous weeks.  Bash did not practice against it all week so it took some time to adjust.  We adjusted well once we figured it out, thus the long completions in the middle of the field in the 2nd half.  So, the slow start was probably more to do with that along with the wind.  I think CC made some remarks in the paper to that effect as well.

I guess no one cares about my band post or there is no other NCAC team other than Wooster that has a full blown band. I saw one of the best high school bands at OWU. Is music a part of Liberal Arts schools?

Ask and ye shall receive, kcreds...

To my knowledge, nobody in the conference has a band that even comes close to what Wooster brings.  OWU has a band, but they're not a marching band (you knew this).  Wabash has a pep band (mysteriously absent from Saturday's game) that is organized and run by students.  I'm not sure if Witt has a band...they were on fall break when I was there this season and my recollection is that two years ago on their homecoming they brought in the Central State band to play (I think this was also mentioned earlier).  Pep bands don't seem to be a big thing around our conference which is too bad because they are a lot of fun and add a lot to a college game atmosphere.

Music is definitely a part of the liberal arts....extra curricular music is a bit of a different story.  A lot of the musicians at Wabash are involved in a couple of concert bands that are under the direction of college faculty...the pep band is 100% student run and thus requires a group of students who 1) have the free time (which is easier said than done for most students) and 2) the willingness to organize the band and stay on people about making sure they practice and make it to games.  Having known several pep band guys during my time at Wabash, I can safely say that this is a more daunting task than it seems.

Thanks wally wabash for humoring me. If I could give you karma I would.
