WOO / Its pride time now: Tough loss in Indiana. Got to give credit to Bash as they made the adjustments needed to secure the win.  The Woo kids left it all on the field.  Backups played well enough to win, but Bash's adjustments were just better than Woo's responses.

Referees are on the field to keep the contest within the rules established for the game of football.  The Refs for Saturdays game were not of the quality that the young men, who were giving all they had, deserved

At the game Sat (or rather at the tailgates prior), someone brought up that Rodgers had sued DePauw.  Has anyone seen the suit or knows the facts claimed in the suit?  Does this have impact on other coaches / players now at DePauw?

As we come up on the Danny come-upins 2006 style,  does this have an impact?

Depauw should hope that their attorneys can adequately manage this complaint.

Man I hate Gator week.  Half afraid to say anything.  No need to generate bulletin board material for a team that regularly beats some of the best Witt has to offer.

Scoping the Allegheny website see they have about four guys they like to throw the ball to, all having around 400 yards or so.  Dallas looks to be their primary target, but looks like two and three are drawing coverage OR Dallas is so good theyre open because he always is bracketed by a linebacker and covered by a corner with a safety over the top.

Usually a good sign for an offense when a back with good rushing numbers has respectable receptions and yards receiving but isnt in the top three.

Savage is more than a solid QB.  Before the league became ICAC infested (read:chuck and duck) 2000 yards passing would have nearly been in the top three all time for the conference.

Really think the game will hinge on Tarquino and the Gator rushing attack generally.  Statistically appears to be Tarquino exclusively, but wouldnt be surprised to see some face make his debut against the Tigers.  Tigers are susceptible of getting their nose too far into the line of scrimmage if a back is getting off.

With the different fronts Wtts been showing defensively this year really think its time to go back to the old hat and break out the split 60 if theyre gonna have all three safeties on the field.  Or was that just for Obi.

Not close to the program by any stretch of the imagination, but would think this would be a week for an overgrown senior linebacker to get on his horse.  Play the mike.  Let swanson and harmon coordinate with the safeties.  Play some two.  Go back to the old stuff.  Get a lead, go to four.  Jump some three with that pseudo-nickel package.  Must be running Copper, because the nickel is supposed to be faster than the H.

Bust em in the chops and somebody tell Mygrant to get that skeeter off his Peter.

This is about the third time you've said this. What the hell does that mean?

I only know of ONE former ICAC team in this league. So is one team an "infestation"? Can one insignificant ICAC team really cause a corruption of all that is good about college football and make other teams......gasp.....pass the ball? Surely not.

How many teams were runnning the oneback in the Big Ten before Tiller came to Lafayette?  Afterwards?  Since Wabash came to the NCAC how many teams have adopted the oneback?  Of the former teams in the ICAC, how many ran the oneback?

Respectively, none, a bunch a bunch and all of them.

Nothing personal catdaddy.  But when a solid team brings a different blueprint it has a trickle down effect.  Not because everybody necessarily wants to emulate what your doing, but becuase they must first stop what your doing and that isnt the same blueprint to stop what was being done before.

And being a native Hoosier think I can comment on point guard basketball on grass football as well as anyone.  Still think INgs is the best QB ever seen play the game, just dont understand why he met with such limited success in college.  Still beat his Giants in the basketball sectional anyways.

The cracks on the ICAC are tired...the days of Witt being able to throw a toss sweep to Donaldson on every down are over.  The carpetbaggers are one win over Denison away from getting a third NCAC title in five years...it must not be all bad.

The key for Allegheny is the same as the key for every single team that plays Witt...hang on to the ball and contain Murray enough on first down to create long yardage situations.  Huffman will lose this game if he's given the chance.  The key for Witt will be to make sure this doesn't happen.  It really is that simple.

If youd read half the stuff I write about Leonards Franklin team on the HCAC page, or the tie ins I like to suggest between the wing t and the differences between run and shoot versus spread, youd realize Im just commenting.

Theyre not ICAC cracks.  Wabash cracks maybe, but hard to stomach when the conference used to have nicknames for their backs like Bump and Grind.  And no, that wasnt a Witt pair, though weve had our fair share of two back threats over the years.  Could even point out the fact of the best pair in the history of the NCAA statistically.

Guess you guys only saw Donaldson, who played on some great cohesive teams, but while he is statistcally our best, and the conferences best ever, think Perryman, Warga, Powers, Booker, Parker and Stockdale were all something unlike Bash has seen outside of Sutton.  Grove was good, and did he ever have a motor, but some of the two back combinations under Neibuhr would have scared the ICAC into a 10 man front.

If it makes ya feel any better, my high school coach was a Bash grad and we ran the Power I because that was what he ran in college.

If you want to lament the change in the style of play in the league then that is your right. But it gets really old making comments how this is Wabash's "fault", as though running a different offense is some blameworthy offense.

Have to agree with Wally.  The game plan is pretty straight forward.

Contain Murray on first down and keep him under 3.5 yards per carry (easier said than done) and a good team has a great shot of beating Witt.  If you don't, you'd better hope a few other things go your way.

Murray is one of those talented/durable backs that can carry the ball 20 - 30 times a game.  Gheny cannot give him the corner, they need to force him to get his yards inside.

From the pictures of the game..I think it is official.  One of the nicest natural grass surfaces I have ever step foot on is a complete mess.

We better be careful, unless we can fix the field we may begin to get a "Mudville" type label.  ;D

Nicest natural grass surfaces?!?  I can't remember a time when it was great.  Now I've only been over to Little Giant Stadium 4 times, but my first experience was aweful in the fact that the game was delayed like an hour and a half for Grubs, and then had to be moved to the local high school to be completed (due to no lights).

wally_wabash

Low blow, uknowme2...the grub thing was a total fluke and the game had to be moved to the high school because of a weather delay moreso than the delay before the game.  The field has been in fine shape for every other one of Witt's trips to town.

Hmm... Not close to the program at all.  I don't think you'll see too much of the "old stuff" this week.  Would I like to see it?  Yes.  But I would also like to see the D give up like 3 points a game like they did in '98.  But that was a long time ago!!!!

Sorry Wally.  I couldn't pass that up.  You are right, the field has been in very good shape every other time I've been there.  It is a great atmosphere and I have always liked the trip to Crawfordsville.

Aside from the schools webpage and wittfans videoclips, the closest I come to knowing anything about the Tigers right now would be the fullback on my semipro, as he was one of Harmon and the Brunics coaches in high school.

Little personal affinity for the freshman Diggins as well, as my friend is the defensive coordinator at Northwest.

And just so I can manage to wedge a wing t blurb in, saw the freshman wide receiver, Bills, from Indianapolis Warren Central made the participation list and recorded a stat.  For those who dont know, Warren runs the T, or at least a motion double wing.  Betting he knows how to block.   ;)

I'm not sure if Witt has a band...they were on fall break when I was there this season and my recollection is that two years ago on their homecoming they brought in the Central State band to play (I think this was also mentioned earlier).

Witt does in fact have a Pep Band.  However, aside from 2 or 3 of them, they're about as motivated as . . . well, I was going to think of a witty one-liner here, but I got nothing - let's just say their motivation sucks.

Granted, they are at 4 of the 5 home football games (they'll never be there for fall break), but once basketball season rolls around, it's really hit or miss as to when they will/won't show up.  There were even 2 or 3 times last year where they showed up to a basketball game, played the national anthem, and left.  It was embarassing, really - one of my top 5 worst Wittenberg sporting event memories, by far.

As far as 'Gheny goes, that's always a scary game.  Put on top of it that the Gators can ruin Witt's title hopes, and you have all the makings for an upset.

Kcreds,

Sorry your band post was missed earlier - no offense intended, but this rhynie responded to the General Football thread started by AUPepBand.  Long time bandsman, and best friend started the MOB at Rice in 1971, so even a fifty member, kazoo ensemble beats the hell out of "piped Glitter/Queen/Romantics medleys."

Born and raised Ohioan as well, so your opinion and state pride are somewhat understandable, but are two AQs (already), and probables as a "C" and in the BCS championship not enough?   BTW - GO BLUE  ;)  But to root for Witt?  Might as well order beans in your Red at the Texas Chili Parlor in Austin, mate!  ;D ;D ;D
