My only point is that I would rather the NCAC champ NOT start in Alliance!  Tough road, absolutely...but, I like our chances in the first round vs. MSJ.  I certainly did not mean to imply that the NCAC champ had an easy road to Alliance.

On a lighter D1/BCS note, just spoke to a friend heading down to Louisville for tonight's clash with West Virginia...their tailgate starts at 12 noon...yikes!  That should be a great game.

If you're referring to Wally's post about comparing scores, I don't see how that's "all about Wabash". He was using scores from our region and conference because those are the ones he knows. I'm sure there are examples from other regions and conferences he can throw out if he has time to look for them.

This board is a lot like the hoops board. One team's fans outnumber the rest (Wooster in hoops, Wabash here). Any time one of those fans posts something everyone seems to infer an intent to dominate the board with their school, even when that intent isn't there. It gets old in the hoops board and it gets old here.

He was just making a point using the teams he's most familiar with.

Rooting interests aside, I was wondering if anyone could give this board some insight into Saturday's game between the Tigers and Gators.  I'd like to hear some other people's perspectives, as I haven't seen AC play yet.

Wally -

Why is it that so many of your posts sound condescending?

Some are and some aren't but the biggest reason for this is because that's how you elect to read my posts.

What you say is of course true, and I and everyone else knows that..

If you knew ahead of time that my point about comparing scores was correct, then what was the point of your original post that was chock full of score comparisons?  I've gone rounds with you before, WooBoo, and I'm not going to repeat it all here.  I get it.  You don't like the tone/style of my posts.  Let it go already.

I'm not sure what to make of Witt.  They've been just good enough to get by Wooster and Wabash, have been positively mediocre against Oberlin and Earlham, and actually lost to a winless OWU team.  As Murray goes, so goes Witt's offense and while the Tiger defense has gotten better, I wouldn't necessarily call them a dominant group.

Allegheny has a solid offense with a solid RB and solid QB.  They can run well if that's what you give them and they can pass well if that's what you give them.  Defensively, they are pretty good.  Third overall, but the Gators are just 8th in the league in rush D.  That's a problem, because Witt wants to run all day and they have the best back in the conference.

The key, as has been posted before I believe, is going to be whether or not Allegheny can get Huffman into enough long yardage situations to force him into mistakes (he'll make them, and Gheny will capitalize as they lead the conference in turnover margin).  If Murray owns first down, the Gators are in trouble.

I'm expecting a good, close game.  I think the two teams are pretty evenly matched.

I'll take a quick shot with my 2 cents:

Gheny remarks:  Savage at QB and Tarquinio RB are 2 very talented players who are battle tested and will make plays.  Statistically, Savage has had a big senior year and Tarquinio is very consistent.  He runs downhill and runs hard.  They are big on both sides of the ball and play physical.  With their win last week, I think they will have a lot of confidence coming in and will naturally love the spoiler role.  What do they have to lose?

Witt remarks:  It ALL comes down to #21, any way you want to spin it.  If you shut him down (or slow him down) they will struggle.  Huffman is still playing like a Frosh in game 9 and is prone to mistakes in big games.  I think that has impacted Witt's play calling and they have made the decision to ride Murray.  That caught up with them vs. OWU.  It has been stated on this board all year, if Witt is put in 3rd and long throughout the day, it will be extremely difficult for them to get the "W."  What does Witt have to lose here...a lot!

Prediction:  Senior QB vs. Frosh QB - Witt may feel the heat of a must win and end up playing "not to lose" - I honestly think Gheny wins this game 28-17.  If I were Gheny, I'd roll the corners, play tight man coverage on the outside, and put 9 in the box and DARE them to throw downfield.  Witt has had luck in slipping by Woo and Bash...it runs out on Saturday.

Whatever sport, boards are generally dominated by the top competitors. Some schools are all around competitors and therefore may post in more boards......in just the last six years:

Baseball               Basketball          Swimming         Cross Country      In/Out Track

Woo                      Woo                      Kenyon             Allegheny                Allegheny
OWU                     WITT                                               Kenyon                     OWU

Golf                      Tennis                   LaCrosse             Soccer

Allegheny               Denison               Denison                 Woo
OWU                       Kenyon                 OWU                    OWU

In football in the last six years: Wabash, Wooster, Witt, Allegheny.........this is the only sport with more than a couple of teams mixing it up at the top...........sooooo, I would expect to see some difference of opinion expressed by all......there's not much to say if you aren't competitive in anything.

Which is why we don't hear from Earlham, Hiram and Oberlin fans around here.

But for years we've had problems, mostly in hoops, getting even Witt fans to hang out and talk.

My point wasn't about how it comes about that one team's fans outnumber others.

My point was that when that happens there is a bias against that teams fans that manifests itself even when there is no reason.

My 2cents.......

Witt, as stated earlier, barely made it past Woo and Bash,  and did so with a lot of help from officials in both games.  I think Gheny is very good.  From seeing both,  I say Gheny will win!  My only reservation is that it is being played at Witt.

I think Gheny will pull it out, I hope.  If it can't be Woo in the playoffs I would rather have Bash representing the NCAC, much better team than Witt.

Hence why I stopped just reading posts on here and started posting. I am not biased either for or against any team's fans.... or the team for that matter. I think I was pretty fair and gracious in my posting after Woo's loss to Bash. In general I also don't resort to belittling or condescending tones in my posts.

Personally, I'd like to see and interact with posters from all the NCAC teams....at the top or not. It keeps the board interesting......to that end, I will stick it out here, karma or no karma.

As far as Gheny/Witt: Against Woo, total offense was about even and the games were very close. Allegheny's offense heavily passed and they had trouble defending the rush. Witt had a more balanced offense, held the rush, and had more trouble defending the pass. Both teams played pretty clean games without turnovers. Witt has home field advantage and the weather will not be a factor. IMHO, it's a toss up.

Sorry so late on the board.  Congrats to the Bash.  You deserved the Toilet
Trophy this year, but just wait til next!! (I need to see if I can find a pic of that thing.)

I did not get to listen to the game on saturday.  I was only able to get the final score.  As a woo fan, it is saddening.

As far was bash dominating the board, you can't blame the bash posters.  Blame the the posters of their respective schools for not posting.

A much better team than Witt would have beaten Witt.  When teams are closely matched, then officiating might have something to do with the outcome.  Wabash couldn't capitalize on the many mistakes by Wittenberg.  I don't think you can say that Wabash is a "much better team than Witt."  I guess you could say that, but it doesn't make any sense.
