Some weekend thoughts...

- Anybody who hasn't seen a game at Piper-Deeds needs to do so.  Very sweet venue Denison has there.  One of the best small college venues I've been to.  Very, very cool.

- Wasn't there enough room on the bus for a defense, Allegheny?  There's just one guy you have to stop and that one guy goes for 199 and 4 TDs???  You're officially scratched off my Christmas card list, Coach Matlak.

- Kenyon will NEVER win a conference championship playing defense (or not playing defense, depending on your perspective) like this.  Congrats to Oberlin for notching their fifth win...very solid season given their limited roster.

- Huff was 25-30, 386 yards, 2 TDs in three quarters of play vs. Denison.  Impressive.  Huff's PER is up to 179.7 which would be a new NCAC single season record.  A good game Saturday will give Huff the record.

- kcreds, the answer to your trivia question is: 151 consecutive wins by De La Salle High School in California from 1992-2003.  Charlotte Independence HS in North Carolina has an active 102-gamer going.

Yeeouch.
Different level alltogether but I think my high school has won a total of 3 games in seven years!

Thanks wally I knew you would come through. I now know that the WV state record is a long way off from those schools, wow. :o

An interesting stat I saw on the Springfield New-Sun website.

"All that stands between the Tigers and a share of their first North Coast Athletic Conference championship in five years and their first NCAA Division III playoff berth in four years is Hiram, a team Wittenberg has outscored 470-7 in seven games." :o

I knew it was lopsided, 470-7.  Fincham isn't even into running it up on purpose.  I know the last time Witt played Kenyon it was ugly and Fincham had the 1's out in the second quarter, and the JV's played the entire second half.  I think the 2's played two series.

GO TIGERS!!!

Holy crap. As Charles Barkley would say: "that's terbil".

Speaking of Barkley...I heard my first "GINOBILI!!" of the season last week.  I'm still not sure if this is a good thing.

As far as where Witt might go in the playoffs...barring something nutty, it looks like Witt will be the lowest ranked North Region team of the ranked teams in the playoff bracket.  You'd have to assume that Hope will go to Alliance and Witt will end up in Cincinatti to play MSJ or in Wisconsin to play Concordia.

Contras to Wabash 573 wins is a bunch.  Anyone know where to find a list of the top teams?  I think MUC is about 577 but not sure of anyone else.

Wabash is up to 574 wins.  :)

You can find all time w-l records for all DIII teams in the records book on this page:

The team win-loss records start on page 87 or so.

Wally,

I must say you are amazing.  Do you ever work? ;D  If Pat was smart, he get you on board to help him with the North Region or District 5.  As always.

Or, Brent Harris could hire him to help take the load off. I bet Wally would make a lights-out SID; at Wabash, or anywhere.

kcreds,

Just down the road from Williamstown the Parkersburg Big Reds have amassed the #8 all-time winningest program in HS football.  And they are not too far down the interstate from #2 Massillon.

Including this season, MUC is up to 622 in their 109 years - 4th in total wins (Witt is at 662) and 21st in winning percentage at .614 (The MN Johnnies are over .702)

I think the national record for high school games won in a row is 80+ by a team in Michigan.  Not positive about that though(knowledge about 5 yrs old).  There was an Ohio team in the high 50's games won back in the late 90's before they lost.

cave2bens

Old Scot,

The MI team you're thinking about was the Hudson Tigers - I believe they went seventy-one straight, then were tied in Lenawee League play, and won another eight before getting hammered by one of da youper teams (thinking it might have been Ewen-Trout Creek) in the Class C finals back in the mid 1970s.
