I had heard that one of the high-tech turf fields had a million dollar price tag.  Not really sure about that.  I brought up that scenario because that is how Mount was able to put their turf in.  A Mount alumn/fan passed away, and donated the money to the college with the specific instruction it be used to re-do the field.

From information that I know from last year, most of the new synthetic turf fields are in the $550,000 range (perhaps slightly more), yet well less i.e. about 1/3 less than the "old style" conventional synthetic turfs such as Omni turf.  Now this is strickly pertaining to the cost of the field surface itself, not the additional costs for upgrades to stadiums that some of the colleges are doing, such as redoing seating, additional seating, concourses, consession and ticket stands, new public restroom facilities and new locker rooms (or renovations) for both home and visiting teams, etc. (let alonge building a new stadium itself).

Field turf:
I've seen the new turf they've installed at Willamette and Linfield.  I think it's similar to Mount Union's.  I've read that they each paid about one million dollars with all the related installation costs (field prep, grading, drainage, etc).  All seem to be very happy with the new field surfaces.

I didn't realize that the cost was that high.

I read an article earlier this football season about a local high school that put in a new field for around $300k. I don't know what kind it was. I guess they just got a good deal or something.

Question.......if a high-buck alumnus wanted to donate one MILLION dollars to put field turf in, would the Wooster administration say no?
If the bathrooms at the John P. Papp stadium are any indicator. Wooster will install a multimillion dollar Badminton/ indoor Croquet pitch before they invest 1 million dollars in a new football field.. on a side note WalMart has banquet TV dinners on sale for .88 cents maybe the atheletic dept can stock up for next season now :P
So if you think about it... We have to kill these animals or else they will die...... Guess that makes us environmentalists

Prices have gotten a good deal more competetive and remember, after the excavation, there's a lot of top soil that can be sold.  Average high school field in Ohio is about $600,000-650,000 finished.

My first college road trip was to Wooster and the visitors locker rooms were the abosolute worst.  Cold showers that flooded the entire locker room.  Although, the visitors lockers at MTU probably aren't much better.  :)

Speaking of Wooster, I just saw We Are Marshall.  College of Wooster is mentioned in the movie because the new Marshall football coach (played by Matthew McConaughey) comes from Wooster.  I liked the movie more than I thought I would.  It's worth seeing.

Hopefully, you'll shame them into buying the team a meal.

lancer98,
Thanks for the COW article link, interesting.  At the end of the movie, they mention that after Marshall, Jack Lengyel became the Naval Academy's AD.  He seemed like a heck of guy.

I actually got the DVD "Marshall University: Ashes to Glory", which was a PBS documentary filmed a few years ago.  It mentioned Lengyel's affiliation with Wooster as well, and has excellent footage of the news broadcasts from that event, as well as tons of interviews regarding the incident.

It will be interesting to see "We Are Marshall" after watching the documentary to see the "Hollywood Effect".
