Well, I tell you why. This issue is finally coming to a head, and being considered somewhat by the NCAA, that's why (check the Future of D-3 board elsewhere on this site), and it was germaine to an issue brought up earlier on the board here.

BTW - I think it's posturing as I said in the General Issues board.

Since there isnt much going on right now......

A look at the travel the Little Giants have to endure  each year in the NCAC, the average bus ride is 282 miles. If we were members of the CCIW the avg would be 174 miles. If we were members of my newly established IIMCC (Indiana, Illinois, Missouri College Conference) Washington U, U of Chicago, Milikin, Illinois Wesleyan, DePauw, Earlham, Franklin and Wabash the avg would be cut down to 125 miles. My new conference would encompass Chicago, Indianapolis and St. Louis (media/recruiting), keep the eggheads happy, keep the jocks satisfied and keep us out of Ohio. Ha!

You all do realize that the NCAC is allowing the Bell game to be played in its traditional spot instead of mandating a conference game be played that day (and I suppose the SCAC is doing the same dispensation for that OTHER school). So they're doing us a favor, really.

And the NCAC commish was at the last Bell game, even though there was a game that determined the actual playoff participant being played at the same time. (OK, sure it was Witt / Hiram, but you know...things HAVE happened!)

Just sayin'....

Actually the SCAC has been a 7-member conference (and will be a 9-member conference in 2007).  DePauw has asked for the 11th week for their "intra-conference open date".  That has been a real win-win for the SCAC. :)

Millikin and Illinois Wesleyan are part of the CCIW they are not jumping to the IIMCC unless I am grossly misinformed

This is all hypothetical. He was just fooling around.

BB16 -

Hope things are good.  Of last years recruiting class, do you see any that will make a major name of themselves this year?

Predictions?

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

I'm going to jump in and answer that question as if it were directed to me...  :)

Rising sophs to watch out for for Wabash in '07:

I think the list starts with RB Evan Sobecki.  Wabash's running backs have graduated and somebody needs to carry that load.  Sobecki didn't get many touches last year, but looked pretty good when he got his shot.  He may have had more work with the Red Squad, but I don't know a whole lot about how individuals performed in those games.

J-B Brock Graham is also on my radar.  He saw more and more time as the season went on last year and had a huge game at Denison.  He really looks like a kid who can flourish out of that J-back spot.

DL Craig Morrison is a guy that I'm thinking could step in and do very well to fill the open spot on the defensive line.

I would think OL Evan Isaacs is probably in a good position to jump in as a starter this year.  His name had been bandied about as being a very good recruit for Wabash last season and he did see some time at the varsity level.

Other than that, I can't think of many spots where I'd expect a rising soph to be a big player.  Wabash has so much returning from last year that there just aren't a lot of spots open.  That isn't to say that a rising soph can't have a huge camp and earn a spot, but I couldn't speculate on that in March.  Perhaps we'll know more about these guys after spring practice.

Watch 4 Michigan guys to make an impact this coming year:
Senior Wes Anderson at DE
Junior Tony Neimeyer at center or OL (stronger than last year)
Junior Josiah Roberts ... I believe he will get good PT and suprise on OL (he is having a great spring and his weight, strength and speed are "way different" than last year)
Soph Brock Graham at J-Back

PLUS we are working on a good Frosh to be.

(It used to be ... in the old days of Albion and Hope as opponents each year ... that a Michigan guy we recruited had a double benefit:  we got him and they did not.)

By the by ... not exactly a football story ... but this is a slow time and it is a DePauw story ... you don't want to be heavy or not pretty and be a DZ at DePauw.  It seems Bottoms and the Dannie administration have been busy turning their attention to changing the DZ House as opposed to the annual changing of the DePauw football coach.  What is that old saw: ...   Dannies left to their own devices can always be expected to deficate on themselves in some way.

Doesn't really matter, now.  The phrase "DZ at DePauw" doesn't really exist anymore after yesterday.  Also, I'll still take sorority scandals over a national coaching search.

Kicking ugly girls out of sororities has to be a good recruiting tool, right?  :D

Mr. Ypsi

wabco,

I realize that to Wabash partisans, DePauw is the root of all evil, but try to get the facts at least in the same universe as the truth.  The DePauw administration had nothing to do with the 'beauty cleansing' of DZ - it was a national administrator of the sorority (one would hope, soon an EX-administrator).  The administration did the absolutely correct thing and has now banned the sorority from the campus. (Since all but six of the sisters who were not booted quit in protest anyway, this may have been no longer necessary.)

Monon Bell or not, this is NOT a 'black eye' to DePauw, only to Delta Zeta.  (Though I found DPU3619's response rather disgusting.)
