More NCAC offseason news...Wooster grad Rick Drushal was selected to play for Team USA in this summer's World Cup of American Football.  After digging a little about this international competition, I come away with a few questions...

- Is there any way whatsoever that USA doesn't completely dominate this competition?  After years of disappointment in international competitions (FIBA hoops, the World Baseball Classic, even a disappointing showing in the FIFA World Cup), this has to be the one that we can't lose at, right?  Not that there's any pressure, but the disappointment of losing this tournament would be like USA Hoops in Athens times about a billion.

- This is the third World Cup of American Football...why haven't we participated until now?

- I wonder how much run this thing is going to get from the sports networks...does this even get a mention on ESPN?  I would think the NFL Network has got to be dying to show something other than reruns from the combine...maybe they'll send a crew over to do a game or two.

In any case, congrats to Drushal and best of luck to Team USA in Japan this summer.

QuoteI have actually seen the Carmel QB play...I thought he was a pretty good HS QB, he is a big boy...not something you see a lot of at the D3 level.  Sounds like a good class for Wabash.

Did anybody else go after this kid? Hope he does well (as an Indiana homer). And I'm sure Wabash did well---I think CC has a good program, total package, in place.

Quotespoke to an assistant at DePauw in Indy he thought they did well this year, brought is 60+ kids, 5-10 transfers, he didn't give me any names other than Koors (wr) and branigan (te) from cathedral (I asked him if they got any cathedral kids this year b/c I'm a grad) but thought they did well at wr/te and over all on defense

Have heard the same thing....I think  Coach Walker has done a SUPERB job at recruiting in his first real season as HC. He is a super recuiter...and I think  if he can continue to do both, which I didn't think there was anyway he could do, it will yield some positive results in Greencastle.

QuoteI thought it was interesting that he said Butler did a great job this year and plucked a few that would usually end up at wabash or depauw.  I had no idea they where all recruiting the same kids??

Coach Voris is a man on a mission. Good guy and good coach. I've long said if Butler could do nothing else but get some of the top Wabash and DePauw recruits Butler would be better. Long way to go...but hopefully they are headed in the right direction.

Question:  If you son is the starting QB for DePauw...your football head coach is also the head baseball coach along with the Offensive Coordinator...  You have Spring ball going on, does that concern you that he is there as little as one time per week?  I'll give DPU credit for landing 60+ recruits but I still wonder how a guy can do both.  I see what CC does year round and couldn't fathom him doing anything else but 100% Wabash football.

Looks like Bash is sitting at 53 incoming Frosh.  CC & his staff have the numbers down to a science with regards to how many will be coming in.  I am not sure what the target was but expect there were right there.

The Bailey kid from Whiteland that DPU landed is a Wabash alum's son.  How does that happen?

INQBscout - DPU landed North Put's QB and Greensburg's QB.

I wonder if Durbin (Carmel) had grades???

At some point you may have to stop playing that card.

The one-coach-coaching-two-sports scare tactic.

And by "you" I'm referring to the plural, Wabash fans.

Performance on the field will be the ultimate indicator, of course. Got to give the guy credit for doing what it done. I know some Indianaplis area coaches who met him for the first time this recruiting season and really like him...we'll see.

Don't know....are you suggesting Witt's academic requirements are suspect?  ;D

No.  He's more concerned with hosting Inside Indiana Business, I think.

Good one!

I was just wondering if anyone knew and could share some info with me, who did Kenyon hire as their new DC and what happened to Coach Posey?

I see that Denison just hired a new DC.  Any word on who that is?

The Ottawa University (Kansas) alum, became the first player in AFL history to record 1,300 receiving and return yards in the same season after a 2006 campaign in which he caught 102 receptions for 1,324 yards and 19 TDs with 70 kick returns for 1,316 yards and 1 score. The two-way player added 39 tackles with 3 interceptions and 5 pass breakups while also returning 2 missed field goals for 59 yards last season.

This season, before joining the Bears, Marshall led the AFL with 83 kick returns for 1,901 yards and 6 touchdowns.
