Looks like one really got away from Wooster. Andrew O'Connell, who played one year in 2005 for the SCots, has made the roster at Indiana. He really looked like an elite corner, someone who could have been like another Nick Hajjar, just a little taller and a little more explosive.

Didn't he return kicks too?

Congratulations to O'Connell.  That is a great achievement.  Also, another example showing that some DIII athletes have the talent to play at other levels as some have discussed/debated on occasion on the various boards.  I wish him all the best.  Too bad for Wooster, though from the standpoint of losing a talented player, but again kudos to O'Connell.

I hope he gets as good of an education at IU as he would have at Wooster!   :D

I bet Scotty is proud.  Whatever happened to him?  Was he banished?

Worth noting....24 days until Media Day.  I'm already red x-ing the calendar.   :)

Regarding the Street & Smith's Top 25. MUC-No Problem...Wabash-Better prove the #7  spot. We'll find out in December....Bethel?....Carnegie Mellon? THE Coast Guard?....That's why it's PRE-season....Shame on the NCAC for not having teams in the Top...This board spoke of this 2 yrs ago...we need to be better from top to bottom....Drop the Quakers & Puppies and sign Depauw, Westminster.

The NCAC will never drop schools because of athletic performance. No chance in the world.

It's about understanding the mission of the league, which is certainly not to win national titles.

DePauw tried that once already.  I believe the North Coast told them where they could place their application to join.

I think you are correct that DePauw applied (as has Rose) ... I believe ... at about the time the Dannies joined the conference they are in.  I don't think the application was rebuffed as much as the timing was not good for the league to digest further expansion at that time.  It would be great to add DePauw and Rose ... if they are interested still ... and have two divisions.  The schools have similar views as the NCAC toward academics and athletics (excepting DePauw tends to recruit an inordinate percentage of male whimps ..... OK ... intended as a joke).  PLUS a conference division playoff system could work.

wally_wabash

I agree with wabco here...adding DPU and/or RHIT would be ok, but using them to replace other schools in the conference wouldn't be.  Of course, I don't believe the NCAC is particularly interested in expansion...although a partnership between some of the NCAC schools and our other elite Indiana institutions could be possible if this idea of splitting D-III into competitive and non-competitive divisions ever gains any serious traction (which would almost certainly create a secession of some from the NCAC or vice versa).

I always assumed it had more to do with DePauw strong-arming the Indiana schools into the ICAC and then taking Rose-Hulman and bailing after only 8 seasons of full competition.

I would figure that the NCAC wouldn't want DPU in after they jumped ship on a conference that they were one of the main players in creating.  Either way, RHIT's back in the HCAC and DePauw travels more than nearly everybody else in the country.

Kinda tried to poke around and dig some stuff up about that a few years ago.  Didn't get very far.

I know you have all been on the edge of your seat for this. Team USA, led by Wooster All-American Rick Drushal (who knows if he even played), takes down Team Korea. American pride has been restored.

Here's another write-up on the Team USA win.

Loads of D-III alums had noteworthy games.  I'm still nosing around for a participation report, but haven't been able to find one yet.  I can't imagine that every healthy body didn't see the field in a 77-0 game.

Nonbiased "O"...Never Say Never...I think Wabco has hit it right-on...I like the idea of the first Super Conference in D3. Was it all about academics when CWRU left  to join a "Little Ivy" with Chicago? Was the NCAC not good enough for the Spartans? C'mon...any institution, company, sales force, team, looks to get better...from the top, down. Hiram needs to make a major commitment to their programs. They have made recent strides in facilities, but the on-the -field product is a shame. Earlham, well is Earlham. When I see one NCAC team in the Top 25 for D3, when all of us sit in a hot-bed of HS talent...why, why can't we have multiple teams that rock, year in and year out. I am tired of the OAC dominating us. DU & RHIT have solid programs that could only enhance our standing...on & off the field.
