Interesting comment about the QB position. They mention how great of an incoming class of QBs they have, but don't give any names. Is a strong comment, as Savage was a pretty good QB.

WallyFS4,

Please DO NOT refer to Stu as "Jr." - you sound like the OWU dad who's son doesn't even play, nor has ever played a down in the NCAC, AND there is only 1 "Jr."!!!   ;D  Man, I wonder if his high school has lost a game yet???   ;D

Glad to hear he is doing well.  Tell him I said hello.  Did you know Chris Wiesehan (Wabash grad) landed at Syracuse as the O-line coach?  Pretty cool.  Gruden gave him a bum deal when with the Bucs.

Looking forward to getting the season going...

Quote from: WallyFS4 on July 12, 2007, 05:24:23 PMJr. will be in Mesquite this next year.  WR coach and teaching history.  He will be staying with Jozwiak until he can find a place.  Looks like they are to be pretty good.  I believe in the top 20.

Which high school in the Mesquite ISD is it? I'll have to keep an eye on them. I need to get my Dave Campbell's and check 'em out.

My Spartans did move full-time to the UAA in order to be with other "wanna be" Ivy League Division III schools.  At the time that Case was in the NCAC, we were the only comprehensive research university in the group (the other NCAC schools were liberal arts colleges).

My brother-in-law's parents are college professors and when they heard that I was a Wittenberg alum they referred to the school as the Ohio Ivy League.

And while some on this board have disparaged Witt and Hiram as the bottom feeders of the NCAC academically, should point out that Witt has expanded the science curriculum to include not only the traditional liberal arts college Bachelor of Arts but the Bachelor of Science in chemistry, biology and biochemistry as well.

Many are/were disgruntled with the demise of the physical education program at Witt attendant with NCAC ascession, but the Masters in Education surely alleviates any fear that Witt will not continue to produce top notch educators.

So long as Witt's English program continues to produce wacky bards like myself expect the creative thinking to continue.  BTW that was a dig at a certain Wittfan favorite philosophy professor.  Why do we play football?  Because we can!!!

And on that note, expect this to be a knock down drag out year in conference.  Witt has very good skill returning, but has graduated the larger part of the secondary and the offensive line, two troupes that require skill, experience and dedication.  Hope the boys are hitting the track and weight room hard this summer, because Bash looks like they might be poised to do damage in the postseason if a roadblock isn't erected.

Can you say roadblock?

We'll find out pretty quick if we have a championship caliber team, because Franklin will give us all we want, I am certain.  It will be an excellent non-conference test, as I would expect them to be one of the favorites in the HCAC.

You are right.  Stu has a couple of weeks left at Purdue, then off to Texas.  He is very excited.  How's the baseball season gone this year?  Are the Bulldogs kicking everyones butt?

Lil,

He will be at Mesquite, home of the Skeeter's.  He said they have a very good QB and one of the best WR in the state.  I hope he will start sending some of the Skeeter's to C-Ville.  As always.

It is a one-bid basketball league under the new rules and will never go deep in the football playoffs again.

The one bid you speak of (Wooster) wasn't the one bid that blew the title game two years ago (that is admittedly a dig on Witt and a compliment to the league).

The new strength of schedule portion of the selection process means either the league has to win a lot more out of conference or live wiith only getting one in.

I meant the future, not the past.

Wooster and Witt both play strong non-con schedules during hoops season and as long as they perform well there and don't blow more than a game or two during the NCAC season, they'll continue to be strong candidates for postseason selection.  Last year Witt made the mistake of getting drubbed twice by OWU and dropping one to Allegheny which pretty much knocked them out of Pool C consideration.

The change in SOS calculation will hurt regardless of the non-conference schedule.

Exactly. I did a little research for a story and found that Wooster, Witt and OWU were the only NCAC schools above .500 out of conference. When you also get a touch of credit for the teams your opponents beat, it's awfully difficult to get much help when they don't beat anyone.

They won the 5A title a few years back and sent Dusty Mangum to the Longhorns. I'm sure he'll love it. Football is king in Texas and he's in a great place.

Antioch is one of Colleges That Changes Lives. Maybe we should make a bid to add them.

Kenyon alumnus Henry Wickham reports on the demise of Antioch College.

Gotta find another one.  :-\
Thanks, RT.
That link on the demise of Antioch by Henry Wickham is worthy read.

But I really think that his reasoning is almost too simplistic. From my eyes, Antioch over-expanded and over-reached and did not take care of its core business - educating undergraduates in a residential setting.

More specifically, if he is "Skeeter", then he is at Mesquite High School as opposed to North Mesquite HS, West Mesquite HS, Mesquite Poteet HS or Mesquite Horn HS.

Ralph Turner,

You are correct, sir.

Ralph Turner,

Mesquite HS is a great place to play.  They commonly have 5000-8000 fans at their home regular games and may approach 15,000 for a playoff game in Texas Stadium.

Just read the Witt preview...  Man, Huffman has some "guns" in that photo!

Hopefully the Wabash SID will get ours done soon...  ;)
