Also, I have never bought the DIII preview before and I'm debating buying it for the first time this year.  Is it worth purchasing?  How detailed are the reviews on a conference and per team basis?  Should I expect something similiar to what STreet & Smith or Steele does for DI?  Thoughts?

I would definitely advise purchasing the Kickoff.  They rank all 238 DIII teams and give a profile for each one.  You can compare one team to another side by side.  There are great articles.  I don't know how it would compare to the DI focused publications, but I do know that I definitely think it is worth it.

wooscot,

Do yourself an enormous favor and purchase Kickoff.  It has comprehensive preview capsules on every single team in D-III, conference breakdowns and predictions, a 1-238 preseason ranking, national predictions, as well as a number of great features pieces on interesting stories around the nation.  I think it's a bargain for the quality and quantity of information provided...and even if the product wasn't as good as it is (the product is great), this is a great way to give a little bit back to the site that provides us all with a one-stop shop for all things D3 football (funds which are used to further expand the site, cover more games in person, etc. etc.).

Wooscot -- our goal is for it to be that type of publication, yes.

It isn't a coincidence that the first year of Kickoff we finally got someone out to the Monon Bell game. That may not be of much use to a Wooster fan but it helps the site out in general.

I understand that Wheaton and Wabash will be having their usual scrimmage the weekend of Labor Day.  Any insights on Wheaton from Wabash fans would be much appreciated.  Thanks all, and here's to a safe, fun season for both the CCIW and NCAC.

roadtrip

Here's another yea for Kickoff....Wooscot, go for it

I was a D3 rookie last season and I could find no other place where you could get all the info on D3 football that was needed for the crash course I required... so I wouldn't sound completely stupid on the football sites...now if D3Hoops had a preview I'd be really happy

Roadtrip -- we'd love to. We don't have a Keith McMillan type for football, who has the drive to put this all together.

There are also 395 or so men's basketball teams, as opposed to 238 football teams. This is problematic because it requires more work to contact coaches and there are fewer potential customers, because there are 12-15 players instead of 60-120.

We've considered it, however. It might have to wait until I can do D3sports.com full time.

Any College Football fan cannot wait for the big D1 Season Previews to be published.   The one thing D3 fans have always been left with in these pubs, is an unsatisfied appetite for information on D3.   D3 may get a small mention, but never anything significant.   The Preview that Pat & Co. have put together is terrific and packed with great information and as many have said, it is a great way to give back to the website that has allowed us all to follow the sports in the Division we love.

Thanks to Pat & Co. for another great job.

Sigh - I have a company wide meeting on the Saturday of the first home game so I won't get back to hear my replacement at the mike. Brent, maybe you could patch in a phone line so I can dial in and hear the PA to make notes???

DadofBashWarrior - before we play ball, let's make sure #87 isn't in grays.   ;D

Smeds - who is the replacement?  Bummed I wasn't in on the selection committee.

Matblake - know that Wheaton will be a great test.  I did some research on Studebaker...he's for real for sure...6'4 255, All State in hoops, All State in the high jump...etc.  I've heard he is getting NFL looks and likely will all season.  He will be scary and hope we have a quick whistle before he takes a shot on Huff.  Hopefully they will stay with the "game-like" format for the 1st half and it will help both teams for their openers the next week.  I am anxious to watch the Bash passing game vs. Wheaton D-backs.

Interesting O-line battles for Bash so the next 2 weeks will be critical for competing for the starting lineup.  Promising reports on some very solid Frosh which is nice - including a nice WR crop.

Red & white on Saturday at 1 P.M.

I think the D may surprise some people after their slow start last year.

My replacement is well known and loved - even if he was a TKE.

As a Wheaton fan here in MIAA land I've only seen Studebaker once last year vs. North Central.  While his numbers in that game were not gaudy, he is definitely a difference maker.  The biggest thing I noticed was his ability to force plays to teammates even while being blocked.

With this being a scrimmage and all, I am sure protection of the players will be a top priority.  Besides, as what is turning into an annual scrimmage, I'm sure both sides will view it with the proper perspective.

Good talk about Woo Frosh and all that ... but Freshmen do not win conference championships ... beat Hiram ... sure ... but beyond that ... they are generally at least a year away regarding conference shallenges.

By the by ... if it has not yet been said ... Wabash will run the conference table.  The only complication to that prediction is if we injure each other in intra squad scrimmages.

Bring on the Grizzles ... no hiding this time ... even if you don't post your roster.  Should be a great game ... I look for the Grizzes to win their conference and get to the playoffs ... but ... not through the Little Giants.

Did you see the player sitting on top of the Allen Center doorway ringing the Monon Bell as the Frosh reported?  Now ... the Dannies never could do that ... they would have it burried somewhere by now ... had they had the luck to have it.

Go Wabash!
