A 2 point Pyrrhic victory for Wabash. We win the game but lose our starting badass 5th year senior QB with a nearly 500 yard passing day because he's on the damn hands team. I'm just completely shocked at this.

are you sh**ting me?? How in the name of all that is holy can you put your #1 QB on the kickoff team? Ho-lee sh**t.

the argument on the other side of this is the hands team is out there to secure the win. it is made up of the best hands on the team in an obvious onsides situation. But the reality is you have 5-7 guys on the other side with a running start trying to kill you. not a good situation to put your star QB.

I totally understand this, usee. But there are few guys that Wabash can lose that could even approach the loss of Huff to an injury. If he gets hurt playing QB I can live with that. But getting hurt on the hands team is a serious screwup.

I would have rather lost the game on the onsides kick than have Huff carried off the field with an injury.

don't get me wrong, i think this is a huge mistake. I would never put my star qb on any special teams. not even as a holder on PAT. I was just pointing out the possible argument to this.

This has been going on for years.  Knott played on the hands team.  Not sure if Harbaugh did.  I have thought this has been crazy for years.  I just hope Huff is alright.  I knew this would end in a injury like this.

FS4,

Well, it wasn't noticed because we never got burned for it. Law of Averages, I guess.

I'm just a dumb lawyer. I'm not a football coach. But I still can't believe this.

I just hope this isn't something that keeps him out of game time.

Kenyon can score 70 points in a game... but God forbid there is actually another team on the field. Maybe their defense wasn't so pathetic this time around. This 2 year contract w/ CMS might have been the dumbest move Kenyon has ever made. travel to CA last year, get their ass kicked and have coaches have to come drag players into the locker room for the post game meeting... not to mention only having 4 home games in 06. Then, have CMS, who, despite the upset of CalLu, not play up to their full potential, come out to Ohio and beat them again. They need to have a schedule of pathetic cupcakes like Grinnell for EVERY SINGLE non-conference game.

And 'Bash... having the starting QB on hands team? Christ. That might be the single worst decision ever made by a coach. If you have a roster of 100+ players.. there IS NO NEED FOR THAT EVER TO HAPPEN. Pathetic... a popwarner coach wouldn't do that.

I'm sure the Big 10 fans (save UoM) are happy to see M loosing again.
Overrated.. but it is not the coach's fault. As a former player, it boils down to the players you have on the field. If they think they are the $hit, then no matter what a coach does, how he prepares, what he says.. etc.. nothing will matter. You can see that is what the players are thinking. All they could say after last week was how they couldn't believe they lost to a team like that.. or a lower division, etc. They were beat by a superior team... and even their captains and best seniors could not realize that. That entire team, save the coaching staff, lacks character, discipline and depth. The loss in this case rests with the players only. The entire M community needs to get their head out of their ass and cut the players down to size while supporting Carr.

I remember Tony Sutton was on the hands team too.  Scary! Best wishes to Huff for a speedy recovery. News on Geffert is may be a stinger, feeling better in the hospital!  Good news.

good news, medicine man. Ambulances and neck braces don't belong in game stories.

Huff's injury looked very painful.  Officiating crew was VERY disappointing.  Field judge was unbelievably inept on pass interference calls; would not make the call on the final Franklin TD even though it was right in front of him.  Creighton was not pleased.  I expect that they will not get a contract for next season.

Good luck to the LG's next week -- lots of work to do.

Lil Giant,

When I saw Huff on the hands teams, I wondered what the he** he was doing out there.  The resulting injury is unbelievable - he should never have been out there.  You've got over 100 kids in red jerseys on the sidelines, and you have to stick him out there???  I don't care if he has the best hands on the team - he is an integral part of the success of the team as a QUARTERBACK, and there is a possibility he may be out for a while now.  I hope not, but it didn't look good.  I've never heard the stadium so quiet after a victory - it was surreal.

OK, now on to the positive.  The OL played great, the passing numbers were ridiculous, the receivers did a great job, and even the running game was servicable.  Special teams coverage units weren't great, but improved over the Franklin game from a year ago.  Aside from the 75 yd run by Hartsfield, I thought the run defense was OK.  Finley had a couple of nice punts, and he hit all of his PAT's.

On the flip side, the pass defense was not good, and Rupp had all day to throw.  It appeared we rushed three and dropped eight into coverage a lot, and their receivers were still wide open.  The blocked field goal was predictable, and Finley missed another one as well.  In "defense" of the defense, they were on the field A LOT, as the offense was able to strike quickly for scores.

At the end of the day, congratulations to the LG's for the victory, and here's hoping the injury to Huff isn't too serious.  Hudson took the snaps at the end, so is he the starter if Huff can't go?  Also, what's the status of Russell?  I don't remember seeing him or hearing his number called much today.

RBH gave me the info on Huff on my way back from the Gusties' win. Too bad. I do remember him always being on the hands team, but I would keep him away from it.

Field turf is kind of weird - it's odd seeing all of the pellets fly up instead of turf. Gustavus has a nice new stadium that if the LG's ever decide to renovate Hollett they could steal some of the ideas.

The results from the NCAC this week affirm that we have a LOT of work to do. Sigh...
