Hi all, first time, long time, sorry to risk beating a dead horse here but as a recent Kenyon graduate and football player I felt it necessary to point out that EastCoastStag can only be described as a disgruntled former Lord with an ax to grind. So please, take the word from someone who stuck out four years in a very tough situation that advice from someone who picked up and moved out west when it became clear he wasn't going to be a contributor is neither correct nor necessary. Kenyon certainly has its fair share of problems, but this is not a football program in danger of being dropped or abandoned, regardless of what EastCoastStag might want you to think.

Ok onward and upward.

Matt Hudson or Kyle Augustonivicz, are going to need a rushing attack to help them get their legs.  I agree with Wally that FC adjusted early in that game and probably came out of their initial defense to stop the run.  That resulted in 477 yards of Passing.

If I read the stats correctly, it seems Millikin gave up (-) 56 net yards rushing (22 attempts - 6 sacks) and  277 yards passing in their close victory against Illinois College.   They then gave up 235 yards rushing on 39 attempts in their 42 - 0 loss to Ohio Northern.  ONU also passed for over 300 yards.

Bottom line is we will field a QB that has talent, just not much experience.  CC has proven that he knows how to recruit and cultivate QB talent.  "Knott, Harbaugh and Huff) (Mitch Tanney wasn't too shabby either)

A successful rushing attack will only help with this transition.  It surely doesn't hurt that they will also be throwing to arguably one of the nations strongest receiving corps.

We also played a little hurt ... some O line will be back to add to the talent pool there and Sobecki should be at 100% ... also Brock Graham will prove out as a ball carrier as well as stud receiver and great blocker.

D line ... and LBs ... just what we expected.

Huff will pull us closer together ... hurt or well ... field or sideline.  QBs are there ... now is their time to shine.

Russell back.

1st game behind us.

Undefeated.

Buckle up!

Welcome to the board hammacka! It's great to see so many of the NCAC teams represented on the board this season! Must prove the age old adage true: "misery loves company"..... :-\

I am still trying to recover from watching the Scots blow a 28-7 lead, the halftime show being screwed up as someone had to hunt for the pipers when their part was announced and the unending and unacceptable wait for an ambulance when Geffert was injured. What an embarrassing day for Woo on all fronts... :-[

This is in response to EastCoastStag,

I am a Kenyon football alum, and I played all four years as a starter.  I was there when we "begged our way out" of playing Witt and 'Bash. That was not the players' decision, and even though we took a beating my Wabash and Witt when I was there I wanted to play them.  I saw the worst of it, and I wouldn't change my college football experience at all.  The fact of the matter is the alumni do care.  They are the reason why the program is still in existence.  If not for the alumni watching us get drubbed 58-0 by 'Bash in 2002 Kenyon football would no longer be.  KFAN (Kenyon Football Alumni Network) helps with funding and with recruiting.  The alumni deserve their respect, and shouldn't be put down by someone that jumped ship.  Secondly, this gentleman, East Coast Stag, who shall remain nameless, never even really contributed to the Kenyon team.  He was an outcast.  He is just bitter.  I am pleased to see the direction the team has been heading, and hope to see it continue.  Go Lords!

Kicker9 -- Glad you joined. Hope you stick around to talk more Kenyon football. The Lords need more voices here.

Good Lord!

A joke ... what with the support you have described, I look forward to Kenyon moving upward and onward.  They should show well against most of the NCAC ... which "most" appear to be having a very down blip right now.  Be great when they are mentioned in the same grouping with Gheny, Witt, Woo (despite their Michigan-esk beginning this year), and OWU (I like OWU ... their players always play with true grit).  See if Ben can get another Fla face planter for your guys.  You are actually only 1 Fla face planter away.

We lose to Manchester...Joe White is held to 2 catches...and I get to listen to Wabash "men" complain about the hands team?  The Lords acting like a bunch of Ladies?

1st...any Nick Saban PoP Warner wannabe who actually has a hands team needs to turn off the NFL Network, stop watching "The Program" and ask his kids if they even care that he was the back-up Guard on his 3-7 HS team.  I believe the quote was "every Pop Warner coach knows you don't put your QB on the hands team."
2nd...I haven't met too many Pop Warner coaches who could win games at a school with high academics, no scholarships and NO girls.

Then I need to hear about the woes of Kenyon...you guys are still winning games, and yet you find time to complain!

Wooster...three years removed from the championship and the playoffs and you find time to complain!

When you guys have walked the stands in a pair of maroon shoes, cheering on the Quake...give me a call.

Until then, another winnable game this week vs. Anderson.  Here's to Joe White going Randy MOss on those guys!!

Welcome to the board supporters of the Lords. I never thought Kenyon was going to drop football even after their 'year to regroup' - because that's exactly what they did. Now let's get Hiram, Denison and Oberlin moving!

Huffy - It's disappointing for fans of the Lords and Scots as they have tasted success, and now feel the cold sting of mediocrity!

Wally - ditto with our kicking teams.  I thought the 4th down on Franklin's 20 might be an ideal time for a fake.  Finley's 50-yard punt was clutch in the 4th after we were pinned deep.

Finley punted very well Saturday (48 yd average), even though he only had to punt twice.  It's the FG and kickoff units that caught my attention for the wrong reasons this weekend.  I think snaps were a big problem on the two FG tries (definitely on the second that one that ended up getting blocked).  Those are things that can get better for sure, and they'll have to now.  We don't know how much having a new qb is going to limit the offense which makes the margin for error with things like special teams that much smaller.

I guess if you are a fan, it's "complaining". If you are a coach, its constructive adjustments and getting after it, especially if you have the talent to do better.......at least I would hope so as I am pretty sure that the name of the game is to win. Patting everyone, including the coaching staff, on the back and saying "tough loss" is an understatement. I would hope the Scots coaches would be a lot more bothered than me about blowing a 28-7 halftime lead. I KNOW the band director was more bothered than me about the halftime show as, after the game; he was informing the band of an early Sunday morning practice and wasn't patting anyone on the back.  As a medical professional, I was appalled at the lack of emergency response and coordination. Unfortunately, I see people all the time who have less than optimal outcomes because they didn't get earlier treatment. In potential neurological injuries like Geffert's, time between injury and treatment should always be at a minimum and the response time on Saturday, by any medical standard, was unacceptable. I would have the same comments if Woo had been keeping Hiram company for the last century. Positive thinking only gets you so far....and it's usually not somewhere near the top of the pack whether in competitive sports or in neurological injury recovery.

Any word yet on exactly what is wrong with Huff and how long he will be out?

I wasn't there (listened on the radio) but judging from the measured posts of the Bash faithful ( I presume they would be telling us if it wasn't bad--there are many on here who would know) he is likely done for most of the season, if not all. I would guess we will all find out this week sometime after consultation w doctors, etc. Sounds like a leg/foot injury. could be a break of some sort which would put him out for 6-8 weeks with a small possibility of return. Again, I am simply guessing by reading between the lines of the Bash posters and what I have heard.

Hope I'm wrong.

From the article reference by BB16:

Creighton also defended the decision to keep him in as a hands' team member.
"Why play (Dustin) at quarterback if we're going to worry about him getting hurt?" he said. "If we worry about him getting hurt, we don't play him at quarterback either."

I don't think there is anything else he could say publicly.  I already filled up my blue book with my opinion on the matter.  But, as stated before, it's time to look forward.

My guess would be that as Matt Hudson took the final snaps of the game, he would be the starter if the game were today  (I am going under the assumption that Dustin will not return for a while).  I'm not sure how to read Millikin at this point - road game with a new QB tells me this may be a tight contest, their 42-0 loss to ONU notwithstanding (ONU is pretty darned good).  Whoever is taking the snaps will have a nice arsenal at his disposal, and the defense will have to continue improving.

Any thoughts on whether the play calling becomes more conservative, or do you run your normal package and just expect the QB to execute as if it were Huff?
