Impressed?  No, but some of you seem to be surprised.
How many took Oberlin in the pickem' giving 3.5?

Are you seriously using the predictions of people on the first game of the year as evidence we're underestimating you? C'mon. I counted 18 that took CWRU today in the pickem. (including myself). Y'all are getting plenty of respect around here.

Quote from: cwru70 on September 15, 2007, 04:13:10 PMI'm not predicting a sure win in the fish stringer game, but it's CWRU's best shot since 2002.

I think you're right. I'm looking forward to that game.

That was really scary....I had typed a post about how Wabash needs to find a pass defense...as I went to push the submit button, we got an INT.....

;)

Start typing a post about a long pass for a TD.  ;)

bashbrother  if u can ... provide some commentary as to LG game.  My sound just conked out.  what int?

bashbrother

I think it was Rich Lehman that picked a pass around mid field.  A couple of punts later Millikin has the ball.

UPDATE - #27 Kraft INT for a Wabash returned for TD

28-6 is the final. Very good win by Wabash today. They played well in all facets of the game. Great way to rebound from the emotional low of last week.

Wheaton joins the QB scare, though not on a last second onside kick.

Starting QB Zach Ullrich, on whom much rides regarding the success of the season, was taken to the hospital in the 3rd quarter.  He was sacked twice on one possession, went off on his own power and then the 2nd team QB took the next series.  It looked from my perspective like he was just getting the rest of the game off with Wheaton leading 41-7.

10-15 minutes after he left the game an ambulance arrives at the game, stops play for 30 minutes while he is taken away.  Scary...

I haven't heard any word, but it is a huge concern to the Wheaton fans as to his availability as the conference season nears, but more to his individual health.  I really hope it isn't serious, as he is a great kid.

I don't have any confirmed details, but I'm hearing bad news (3rd or 4th hand...) and news of far greater scope than football.  Be praying for this young man.

I'm going to take this moment (now that some pictures from the Wabash/Millikin game are up on the Wabash site) to say that the new uni pants Wabash wore today are just plain fugly. They look arena-football-ish. The team name on the legs??? That's just high schoolish.

I wish Wabash would go back to the look that was used in the 2002 season. It's a simple, clean, classic football look. See here:

Now, compare those two great looking unis to what has stepped on the field this year:

Millikin's unis are great. Just substitute red for the blue and that's what Wabash once looked like. And those horizontal striped socks are great!

I'm sorry if you guys think this is a stupid thing to talk about. I know people make fun of my comments about the unis. I just think of schools like Texas, Alabama, USC, Notre Dame, Michigan, or Nebraska. They don't tinker with their unis. When was the last time any of those schools changed their unis?

Wabash has made some change just about every year in the last 3 years. I wish we'd just go back to that classic look and stick with it.

Back from Decatur with some Wabash/Millikin thoughts....

- Very methodical, solid effort from the LGs today.  Wabash controlled the game pretty much from the start.

- Offense looked efficient.  I think it was pretty obvious that the play book was trimmed down for today's game (for obvious reasons), but that didn't slow Wabash down too much.

- Augie goes 22-30, 270, 1 TD, 0 turnovers.  I don't think anybody could have asked for anything more out of him.  From my vantage point, Kyle looked pretty good.  He recognized blitzes very well (led to Brock's 50-yard TD).  CC had Kyle rolling out a lot today and he threw very well on the run.  His throws were sharp and on the money all day.  If this is the future, I think Wabash is going to be just fine.    I'm excited to see what he can do when CC takes the training wheels off.
Editors note: I forgot to mention Augie had a rushing TD today as well...oops.

- Defense was solid today, forcing five turnovers.  I'm a little uneasy about the fact that Millikin threw for over 400 yards (Wabash did a good job of making Kormelink look like an All-American today), but 70 yards worth of sacks and 5 turnovers take the edge off somewhat.  I'd like to see that secondary tighten up a little...especially on plays like 3rd and 24.

- Special teams looked solid today.  Very limited kick return yardage for Millikin all day.  Finley punted eight times today, sticking six inside the 20 and four of those inside the 10.  Outstanding job out of Finley today.  The FG unit....well, let's not talk about the FG unit.   ::)

All told, I didn't see anything today from Wabash (and coupled with the league's results elsewhere) to make me think that the LGs still aren't a heavy favorite to win the conference.  And as Augie gets more and more of the playbook available to him, things are only going to get better.

Next up is the conference opener at gigantic Selby Field in Delaware.  I'm going to get there early and make sure to save a section for myself.   :)
